Chapter 337: Did You Find Out Something?
Fu Yan Cheng looked back at his father: "Yes, I've decided. It's her."
Fu Mother had mentioned to Fu Father earlier that the young lady was the one who had saved their son. Originally they had wanted to go over in person to thank her, but their son had disagreed, saying he would handle it himself.
He feared his son was only marrying the girl out of gratitude for saving his life, which was why he had asked the question.
Seeing the determination in his son's eyes and the faint smile on his lips, he understood his son truly liked the girl: "Alright. Have you told her which day we'll be going?"
Fu Yan Cheng coughed lightly again: "This weekend."
Fu Father and Fu Mother said in unison: "So soon?"
Fu Second Brother burst out laughing: "I say, Old Four, today's already Friday. You have to at least let Dad and Mom prepare the betrothal gifts, right? You're being a little too hasty."
Fu Yan Cheng, however, spoke up: "I never fight a battle unprepared. Dad, Mom, I've already prepared the betrothal gifts. Just bring them along that day; you only need to show up."
At this, Fu family's third daughter-in-law, Zhang Yurong, chimed in: "That's Old Four for you—always thinking ahead."
Fu Father and Fu Mother exchanged a glance, a smile appearing in both their eyes.
Fu Father spoke first: "Since you've already prepared everything, we won't take leave tomorrow then."
Next, Fu Father asked about Liu Chuxue's situation. Upon learning she was only a high school graduate, he thought he would look around later to see if there was a suitable job for her. After all, in the future the child's household registration would have to follow the mother's, and if it was an urban registration, the child wouldn't even have a ration quota.
Fu Mother, meanwhile, was thinking about the few pieces of jewelry she had left, wondering which would be appropriate to give as a betrothal gift.
Seeing the matter settled, Fu Yan Cheng prepared to leave.
Fu Mother asked, puzzled: "You're going back to the army tonight?"
Fu Yan Cheng finished the tea in his cup: "I still have some official business to handle."
"Can't it wait until tomorrow? Do you really have to rush back today?"
"There's a field training mission tomorrow. Going back tomorrow would be too tight on time. I'll just catch the last bus back to the army—won't hold anything up either way."
Fu family's eldest daughter-in-law, Guo Wenjing, however, spoke up with a smile: "Mom, don't try to persuade him. Old Four is just afraid that work piling up will affect his weekend betrothal visit."
Having said that, she burst into loud laughter.
They were all people who had been through it; hearing this, they all understood at once.
Fu Yan Cheng couldn't stand everyone's teasing looks, but he admitted it directly: "Eldest Sister-in-law guessed right."
With that, he strode out with great steps.
Leaving everyone in the room to tease and joke as they pleased.
Not long after Fu Yan Cheng left, just as everyone was about to head back to their own rooms, the telephone in the living room rang: "Hello, who's calling?"
Fu Yanwan's voice came from the other end: "Dad, I'm looking for Big Brother."
Hearing it was his daughter's voice, and noticing it sounded somewhat urgent, his heart couldn't help but tighten: "Xiao Wan, did something happen?"
"Dad, I have something to ask Big Brother. Let him get on the phone first."
Fu Father could only turn and look at his eldest son: "Yan Ming, Xiao Wan is looking for you."
Seeing his father's displeased expression, Fu Yanming laughed outright: "Looks like little sis is still closest to me."
That remark earned him a sharp glare from Fu Father on the spot.
He took the phone: "Xiao Wan, what is it you're looking for Big Brother about?"
But the moment he finished asking, a thought struck him: "Did you find out something?"
Everyone in the room held their breath, eager to hear what they were going to say.
They only heard an excited voice from the other end of the line: "Big Brother, I know who Old Four's partner is! But it's a pity I missed her today—I didn't get to see what my future fourth sister-in-law looks like."
"Tell me quickly, what happened?"
Seeing Fu Yanwan then began recounting how she had spotted a familiar back today, and also relayed the gossip she had heard and her deductions: "Who knows, I might be the first person in our family to meet our future second sister-in-law."
