Chapter 398: It's better if something goes wrong, so we don't have to hide whenever we do something
After getting off the bus, before returning to the factory, she found a secluded spot and entered the space.
She walked around the fields and stored all the vegetables and fruits ready for harvest into the warehouse.
Then she went to the fresh water to catch a fish, thinking that if she had time later, she would enter the space to cook more meals and store them for future convenience.
While the rice was steaming, she simply steamed a whole pot, preparing to store the leftovers in the warehouse.
She quickly cleaned the fish; she was craving boiled fish with chili oil.
Fortunately, the kitchen in the space had two burners, so she skillfully sliced the fish and prepared the ingredients.
An hour later, half a portion of boiled fish, a dish of smashed cucumbers, and a bowl of white rice were placed on the table; everything else was stored in the warehouse for emergencies.
After eating until she was stuffed in the space, she carefully brushed her teeth and cleaned off any scent on her body, then went to pick a watermelon, put it in a mesh bag she had stored in the space earlier, and exited the space.
When she returned to the dormitory, Ji Kunlan was not there.
After washing up at the water room, she brought back a basin of cold water, put the watermelon in the basin to soak, thinking that when Ji Kunlan returned they could eat it together, as a thank-you for educating her about the people and matters of the factory that day.
She waited so long that she almost fell asleep before hearing someone push the door open.
After vaguely making out the person, she said, "You're back?"
Ji Kunlan saw her squinting and asked, "You went to sleep so early?"
Liu Chuxue asked, "What time is it now?"
Ji Kunlan checked the watch on his wrist and said, "Almost nine o'clock."
It was her first day at work, and after getting off work she had run to the Railway Compound; she had originally planned to read a bit while waiting for Ji Kunlan to return, but unexpectedly fell asleep like this: "When I was at home there wasn't much entertainment, so I sleep relatively early."
Ji Kunlan smiled and said, "The main gate downstairs of our dormitory closes at 10:20 PM and opens at 5:30 AM; if you miss the time or want to leave early, you have to call the dormitory manager downstairs."
At noon, Duan Ruirui had already told her that the workshop workers worked three shifts, with the night shift running from 10 PM to 6 AM, so the gate opening and closing times were clearly coordinated with the work schedule; as for why it must be closed, it was definitely for safety considerations, after all, this was the female employees' dormitory.
Ji Kunlan was just about to say something when he saw the watermelon soaking in the basin: "You bought a watermelon?"
Liu Chuxue nodded with a smile: "I went out this afternoon, happened to see someone selling them, so I brought one back; I wanted to thank you for telling me so many taboos of the factory, saving me the trouble of figuring it out on my own, and it really saved me a lot of trouble."
Hearing this, Ji Kunlan said with some surprise, "Hasn't Duan Ruirui returned yet?"
Liu Chuxue shook her head and said, "She probably hasn't returned; if she had, she would have come over to find us by now."
Ji Kunlan was puzzled, turned around, and left the dormitory.
A moment later, Liu Chuxue heard Ji Kunlan knocking on the door of the next dormitory: "Bai Moli, has Duan Ruirui returned?"
Hearing the door on that side open: "No, aren't the two of you usually always acting together?"
How could Ji Kunlan not hear the meaning in her sour words, but he still explained: "I went back home after work, so I wasn't with her."
After saying that, he turned and walked back to his own dormitory.
The door of that dormitory also closed with a 'snap'.
Liu Chuxue had good hearing; after hearing the door next door close, she even heard a 'hmph', followed by the words: "It's better if something goes wrong, so we don't have to hide whenever we do something."
