Chapter 576: Earning Side Income

~4 min read 719 words

One of the technical backbone staff, after reading through Liu Chuxue's translation, clapped his hands: "Engineer Wang, it looks like you were right. Judging by how this Miss translated it, the problem is exactly where you said. Whoever translated it before was either limited in skill, or did it on purpose."

Though blunt, those words were the honest truth.

The few of them exchanged glances and felt there was nothing wrong with that assessment.

Wang Changzheng, however, didn't dwell on the issue any longer: "Then let's try it again."

Another hour passed in disassembly and reassembly. Liu Chuxue had been standing beside them watching the whole time, and just as they were about to finish, she spoke up: "This part is already worn. Even if you install it, it'll likely cause problems very soon."

Wang Changzheng, hearing Liu Chuxue's words, took the part that was about to be fitted on, picked up a caliper and measured it: "Chuxue, keeping you in the Finance Department is a waste of talent. Have you considered coming to work in our Technical Department?"

Liu Chuxue quickly waved her hands: "You're flattering me too much. My eyes are just a bit sharper, nothing else."

After saying that, she even took a few steps back, making her stance clear.

Her goal was very clear: in two years she would be taking the college entrance exam. The steel rolling mill was only a stopgap. In her previous life, in order to better expand her business, she had indeed studied mechanical knowledge and read quite a few books on machinery for that purpose.

Ever since she got the space, not only had her memory improved, but with the help of her spiritual sense, her eyesight was naturally on par with a caliper. But her ambitions lay elsewhere, and she didn't want to spend all day covered in grease. Slacking off in the Finance Department suited her just fine.

The others, seeing her little gesture, couldn't help but laugh.

Wang Changzheng looked toward the workshop director beside him: "Do we have a spare for this part?"

The workshop director's face was full of worry: "We really don't. The spare we had was used up before. But if we have to wait for the part to come back before resuming work, the losses to the factory will be enormous."

Wang Changzheng frowned and thought for a long moment: "Does the factory have this kind of material?"

The workshop director immediately caught his meaning: "Material of the same density probably not, but something slightly inferior should be available."

Wang Changzheng considered briefly: "You all should file your applications as needed. I'll first make a similar one for you to use, to address your immediate urgent need. After all, if the density isn't up to standard, it probably won't last long either."

This kind of part was extremely precise; without the skill of a Grade-Eight worker, it simply couldn't be made.

Everyone, hearing that Engineer Wang could help them make one first, burst into cheers: "That would be wonderful."

Director Guo cleared his throat lightly, a bit embarrassed: "Engineer Wang, I have a favor to ask. Could you make one more for us as a spare? In case the part we applied for hasn't arrived yet and something goes wrong in between, we'd really be out of options."

Wang Changzheng naturally understood. After all, they had come this time at the invitation to help solve the problem: "Fine, as long as the material cooperates, no problem on my end."

Seeing there was nothing more for her to do here, Liu Chuxue said: "Engineer Wang, leaders, if there's nothing else, we'll head back to the guesthouse."

By now the sky outside had already brightened, though it was still far from work hours. She wanted to go back and catch some more sleep, just in case the Sales Section finished coordinating and called her over to check accounts with the factory's finance staff.

Deputy Director Guo quickly spoke up: "Comrade Liu, you've really worked hard. I'll have Secretary Zhang take you back, and the translation fee will be settled by Finance first thing when work starts."

Liu Chuxue certainly wouldn't say anything like "no need," since they'd have to pay anyone else they hired. She gave them a nod to show she understood.
