Chapter 906: Luckily I Have You; Otherwise, I Would Be Depressed to Death

~4 min read 738 words

Having just returned after collecting her wages, Sister Jiang from Logistics ran over to speak with her: "Chuxue, I've already had someone set aside your share of the benefits; just come find me this afternoon."

A brilliant smile bloomed on Chuxue's face: "Sister Jiang is still the one who treats me best."

Sister Jiang laughed as well: "Did you think when I said I'd look out for you, I was just talking? Anyway, we in Logistics are incredibly busy today; I only managed to slip away while going to the restroom, so I must head back now."

Chuxue quickly waved her hands: "I understand, I understand; hurry back to your work. Your little sister thanks you."

Sister Jiang turned with a smile and ran off, not forgetting to wave at him as she left.

Just as she was about to enter the office, she heard Duan Ruirui calling out.

She quickly told Sister Hong inside the office: "Call me if anything comes up in a moment; I'm going to say a few words to my friend."

Seeing Sister Huang agree, she headed toward Duan Ruirui: "Ruirui, I heard from my mother; are you alright?"

Duan Ruirui sighed: "Since the matter has already occurred, what can I say? I can only nod in agreement; after all, seniority comes first, and who made Xiao Wanpeng the youngest?"

Chuxue quickly offered comfort: "Actually, getting married after the New Year is better; it allows you to spend the festival with your father a bit longer, and by then you won't need to wear such bulky clothes. I'll design an outfit for you then, guaranteeing you become the most beautiful bride."

No girl dislikes beauty; hearing Chuxue's words, a smile indeed appeared on Duan Ruirui's face.

She hugged Chuxue tightly: "Luckily I have you; otherwise, I would truly be depressed to death. You say they couldn't speak earlier or later, but waited until we had already set the date to send word; I really don't know what to say about them."

Even though she had never met Xiao Wanli, he was still her own cousin; she truly could not say anything, for who could have known things would align so coincidentally?

Duan Ruirui muttered: "The moment I received the news that day, I was stunned; you have no idea, my father had already notified all our relatives and friends, and now suddenly we aren't marrying, requiring a whole round of explanations to everyone."

"What made me angriest was that my two sisters-in-law were actually mocking me behind my back; I nearly rushed out then and there to tear into them, but luckily my two brothers still possessed some conscience and scolded them."

Chuxue felt great pity for her, patting her back: "I am truly sorry that you had to suffer such grievance; but rest assured, I will definitely have my cousin restore your honor and make those two sisters-in-law regret it until their intestines turn green."

Duan Ruirui guessed somewhat her intention: "Better not; anyway, it isn't as if your cousin rejected me; at most, I just need to endure another half year, and if nothing happens after the New Year, I simply won't go back."

Although the postponement of the wedding date had its reasons, Ruirui was still the one most hurt by the entire affair, which caused Chuxue great heartache.

Just as she was thinking of visiting her cousin that evening, she heard someone call out: "Duan Ruirui, so you are here; someone is looking for you downstairs."

The two happened to be in the corridor; upon hearing this, once Duan Ruirui had steadied herself, they both looked down below together, only to see Xiao Wanpeng standing there.

Chuxue smiled immediately: "Go quickly; my Fourth Brother surely has something important to discuss with you."

Duan Ruirui reached out and grabbed Chuxue's sleeve: "Come along; come with me."

Chuxue, however, smiled and slipped free from her grasp: "I won't go play the third wheel; you two talk properly, but please tell him that if he isn't busy, to wait for me a moment, as I happen to have something to discuss with him."

Seeing that she truly would not follow, Duan Ruirui said: "Then I'll go down first; I will definitely pass your message along."

Chuxue liked precisely this kind of disposition in her; she had a sense of boundaries and never insisted on dragging you along just because you were friends.
