Chapter 7: Chapter Six: Night Raid and Worldview
Night.
After struggling to finish a plate of potatoes in the cafeteria, Su Qing lay quietly on the bed, mulling over his actions for the next morning.
To be honest, if possible he would still like to rest a few more days.
But things are unpredictable.
The sudden appearance of the bald werewolf, as well as his conversation with John, though fragmentary, gave him a vague sense of foreboding.
If things go badly, something big might happen.
Time waits for no one!
It seems the only option is to go all-in.
Last time he downloaded the English skill, he lost weight directly; after resting these days his physique isn't as strong as before, but he has regained some flesh, so he can only hope this consumption won't be too excessive.
"Whoosh..." the wind moving the curtains made a sound.
Su Qing snapped out of his reverie, opened the light screen to recall the conclusions he had summed up these days, and the smoothed brow furrowed again.
Since becoming a translator, he has never given up exploring the 'Heavenly Base'; after several attempts he discovered that the Heavenly Base has a distance limit.
Put simply:
He likened the target person to WiFi, himself to a phone, and the Heavenly Base to an app store.
As long as one leaves the WiFi coverage, the phone loses connection; without network, the app store cannot run, and the ongoing download task will automatically stop.
This distance, after measurement and calculation, is about ten meters.
That is to say.
Su Qing must be within a ten-meter radius centered on the target person for the Heavenly Base to link to the target, and only then can he download skills or bloodlines.
Otherwise, the link will be broken, preventing further download.
Such a limit gives Su Qing a headache, but it's acceptable.
After all, a cheat like the Golden Finger is a stroke of luck; to complain about it is probably a sign of insanity.
He put away the light screen, Su Qing rubbed his sore eyes, and turned his head to look out the window.
In the night sky a bright moon hung high, like a jade plate, scattering white frost over the ground, adding a touch of color to the darkness.
The cold moonlight streamed through the window onto the foot of the bed.
Su Qing gradually closed his eyes.
Half an hour later.
He opened his eyes again, clear and wide awake, with not a trace of sleepiness.
Anyone who has to risk his life for luck tomorrow would inevitably feel uneasy; lying there half a day, his mind actually recalled the first twenty-five years of his life, giving him a feeling like a life-flashing-before-your-eyes before death.
Really unlucky.
Su Qing immediately changed his posture, forcing himself not to wander in thought.
He didn't know how long had passed when, as his consciousness faded and he was about to fall completely asleep, a heavy object hitting the floor made a sound.
"Bang!"
Then came a miserable scream.
"Ah..."
Su Qing jolted upright; the first thing he did upon opening his eyes was to reach under the pillow and grab the small knife hidden there, then lift his gaze toward the door.
There he saw a humanoid black shadow leaning against the wall, rubbing his feet.
Obviously he had been hit by the trap he himself had set.
Knowing that Zhang Lei bore him ill will, Su Qing naturally wouldn't be unprepared.
Every night before sleep he would place a stone on the door frame; if the door was pushed open from outside, the stone would fall.
Also, the small knife in his hand was used by the cafeteria lady to peel potatoes; he had appropriated it for self-defense, and even when sleeping he kept it under the pillow, within easy reach.
"Zhang Lei!" In the darkness he couldn't see the appearance, but Su Qing didn't dwell on it; whoever would push his door at midnight, besides that pervert Zhang Lei, there was no one else.
"Hiss! You bastard, just wait till I tear you apart, I'll..." Zhang Lei sucked in a breath of cold air at the sight of the head-sized stone at his foot, then felt a surge of dread—this Su Qing really isn't human; who puts stones on doors? Fortunately his right foot stepped in first; if it had been his head, being smashed by such a large stone would not kill him but would leave his head bloody.
Su Qing didn't expect Zhang Lei to drop the act this time; he blinked in surprise.
But in an instant he reacted, jumped off the bed, grabbed the small knife, and rushed toward the window.
Although he had a small knife, Zhang Lei's right foot was injured by the stone, but Su Qing knew that in physique, strength, or fighting experience, Zhang Lei completely outclassed him.
So.
Seeing Zhang Lei's unrestrained demeanor, his first thought was not to entangle with him but to run.
At night there are patrols; if he runs out and creates a big commotion, Zhang Lei won't be able to act.
Now the main door is blocked by Zhang Lei; the only way out is to jump out the window.
Because the room he lives in is small, Su Qing reached the window in a few steps.
However, just then.
A plank suddenly appeared, completely covering the window.
Then came the sound of ding-ding-dang-dang as someone nailed the plank to the window with nails.
This sudden change really caught Su Qing off guard.
He couldn't understand how Zhang Lei dared to be so bold.
He is John's personal translator; putting it bluntly, even beating a dog requires looking at its owner.
Moreover, Zhang Lei is nothing more than John's dog; if he lays hands on me, isn't he afraid of John?
Or perhaps John...
A flicker of gloom passed through Su Qing's eyes, then he heard Zhang Lei's mocking voice from the doorway.
"Heh heh, run, why aren't you running?"
Aren't you afraid Mr. John will blame you for doing this?
Su Qing harbored a vague suspicion, but he still spoke threateningly.
Zhang Lei merely gave a heh heh laugh upon hearing it, and while shutting the door he jeered: "Even now you still don't understand? It's Mr. John who gave your reward to me—yes, a reward—these Dayingguo lot always pull these carrot-and-stick tricks, but, heh heh, I like it."
Reward?
Hand over my reward to Zhang Lei?
Su Qing stared, then his face turned ashen.
You bastard wolf pup, I just taught you the Eastern Kingdom's script this morning, and tonight you turned around and sold me out.
Fuck!
Seeing Su Qing's grim expression, Zhang Lei walked over with a lecherous grin.
I've told you, you can't escape my palm. Be obedient, follow my will, serve me comfortably, and maybe I'll let you live a few more days.
"That bastard ordered you to kill me!" Su Qing seized on the key words and asked coldly.
"Since you've figured it out, then be obedient—I'll be gentle…" Zhang Lei's eyes filled with lust.
Su Qing remained silent; though he had never hoped for anything, this feeling of being sold was… John, your grandma's a triangular basket!
He turned his head to look at the sealed window and bolted door, realizing that with his current physical condition, escape was utterly impossible.
But.
Even desperatly dragging a person with an injured right foot to shield his back, he still had a glimmer of hope.
With that thought,
Su Qing's eyes turned resolute; gripping the small knife, he lunged at Zhang Lei.
Suddenly, a miserable cry rang out.
A huge black shadow burst through the wooden hut, slamming straight into Zhang Lei, then carrying him as it smashed through the rear wall, flying several meters before crashing heavily to the ground.
"Hiss! Damn it!" Su Qing braked hard and jumped back, then a surge of fear hit him—what the hell is this thing? If he hadn't been a step slower, the person struck by the black shadow would have been him as well.
While Su Qing was still doubtful, light footsteps approached from behind, and he instinctively turned his head.
In the moonlight he saw a young woman in a black windbreaker, shoulder-length black hair, presently holding a knife in both hands, walking toward him.
He swallowed, Su Qing felt a bit nervous, just about to say something.
The woman arrived before him in the blink of an eye.
At this distance he could clearly see her face.
But upon seeing the woman's handsome, icy face, Su Qing's mind went blank and he blurted out: 'Selinna!'
Aooo…
At that moment, a ferocious wolf howl sounded from the side.
He tilted his head slightly and saw a humanoid creature with a gray wolf's head climbing up from the ground.
Upon seeing the creature's full form, Su Qing recognized it as a werewolf.
At the same time, he finally understood.
It turned out that his transmigration was not through time, nor some magical otherworld, but into the movie world titled 'Legend of the Night'.
