Chapter 584: Listen to Tuan Tuan!

~7 min read 1,207 words

Each step it took on the ground made the wheels tremble slightly.

"It's coming! It's coming over!" Sa Dike was terrified, shrinking back, his legs shaking like sieving chaff.

Xiao Ningxun and Xue Tong had already crawled out of the carriage, one on each side guarding Tuan Tuan.

The two simultaneously reached out, supporting Sa Dike, so that Tuan Tuan didn't fall from his shaking.

Kang An anxiously stuck half his body out the carriage window and shouted, "Tuan Tuan! Be careful!"

Tuan Tuan turned back and smiled at him, saying, "It's fine! Xiao An'an!"

Xiao Er and Lu Qi reined in their horses, leading the guards to gallop up to the carriage and encircle it.

"Woo—" The horses neighed in panic, continually backing away, only Red Cloud remained calm, standing still.

The camels' necks drew back, they huddled together, emitting low "gurgling" sounds.

The giant walked to about ten steps from the carriage and stopped.

Its three-zhang tall body was like a small hill, its shadow covering the entire carriage.

It lowered its head and stared fixedly at Tuan Tuan; its eyes held no ferocity, only curiosity.

The hunters also came up, panting as they raised their spears.

"Why don't you run? What are you waiting for?" the lead hunter stamped his feet anxiously, "One slap from it could snap a tree—how many hits could your rickety carriage withstand?"

Tuan Tuan ignored him.

She lifted her small face, looked at the giant, raised her hand and pointed to her own arm, softly asking, "Does it hurt?"

The giant lowered his head to look at his wounded arm, tilted his head, and pointed to his own arm as well.

"Grr—"

He let out a low, rumbling roar, as if in response.

The hunters were frightened and all stepped back one step.

Tuan Tuan laughed, turned to Xue Tong and said, "Master, he says he's in pain—can you heal him?"

Xue Tong tilted his head back, looking at the giant who towered over him, and his mouth twitched.

"I'd like to," he swallowed, "but one slap from him could kill me. Even if I'm used to saving lives, I can't sacrifice myself, disciple."

Tuan Tuan blinked, then climbed down from Sa Dike's neck.

Xiao Ningxun, quick-eyed and quick-handed, reached out to steady her: "Tuan Tuan, what are you doing?"

Tuan Tuan stepped onto the carriage shaft and sat down, saying, "Sit down."

Xiao Ningxun blinked: "Huh? Sit down?"

"Right." Tuan Tuan nodded, lifted her little face, and waved at the giant, "You sit down too."

The giant stared at her, then without thinking plopped down with a "thud" on the ground.

The ground shook violently, kicking up a cloud of dust.

The carriage shook with it; Kang An loosened his grip, failed to hold the window, and fell back inside with an "ah."

The hunters gaped, their spears almost slipping from their hands.

Sa Dike's eyes nearly popped out of his head.

Tuan Tuan, however, broke into a grin: "You're so good!"

She stood up, grabbed Xue Tong's hand and jumped down from the carriage, saying, "Master, let's go down."

Xue Tong seized her wrist: "Don't go over there!"

Tuan Tuan looked puzzled: "Why?"

Xue Tong pointed at the giant: "That, that..."

He stammered "that, that" for a while but couldn't find a suitable word.

Tuan Tuan turned back, solemn: "He's just an injured person."

Xue Tong's eyes widened: "A person? Have you ever seen someone like this?"

"No." Tuan Tuan shook her head, "He's just big—it's not his fault."

"His parents must be huge too, which is why he's so big."

The giant seemed to understand, letting out a low whimper.

"Mmm—"

That sound was full of grievance, like a scolded big dog.

Tuan Tuan's eyes lit up; she pulled Xue Tong's hand and pointed at the giant, "Master, look! I was right—he's saying the same thing!"

Xue Tong: "..."

He looked doubtfully at the giant sitting on the ground with a wounded expression, then at his own disciple, gritted his teeth, and stamped his foot:

"Fine! Today I, as your master, will risk my life to accompany my disciple!"

He scooped up Tuan Tuan, jumped down from the carriage, set her down, and led her step by step toward the giant.

"Wait!" Kang An also scrambled out of the carriage, jumped down, ran to Tuan Tuan's side, grabbed her hand, and said, "I'll come with you."

Xiao Ningyuan jumped off his horse and, together with Xiao Ningxun, stood left and right to guard the big one and the two small ones.

Xiao Er and Lu Qi led the guards in dismounting, forming a line to block them.

The group slowly approached the giant.

The hunters grew anxious, raising their spears and stepping forward a few paces.

"Your courage is too great!" the old hunter shouted at the top of his lungs, "If it goes berserk, we can't stop it!"

Tuan Tuan looked at them, her little brows furrowing.

"Don't make a fuss," she pouted, "He's so well-behaved—you've scared him silly."

The hunters: "..."

They looked at the massive creature that had terrified them for several days, and then looked again at the little child who wasn't even as tall as their own leg.

Good?

You call this thing "good"?

But that giant was indeed sitting on the ground honestly, staring motionlessly at Tuan Tuan.

The crowd stepped forward slowly, finally reaching the giant.

Even while seated, the giant was still a great height above them.

Tuan Tuan tilted their neck up, looked for a while, and rubbed their little neck.

"You're too tall! Never mind, just lie down."

The giant looked at her, stretched out a huge hand, and pointed to the ground.

Tuan Tuan nodded vigorously: "Yes, yes! Just lie down, otherwise Master can't treat your injuries."

The giant, without a word, lay down.

The hunters standing behind it were terrified, their souls fleeing, and turned to run, fearing the massive creature would crush them into meat pies.

Boom—!

A huge roar sounded, and the ground shook violently.

After a moment, the dust cleared, and the giant lay quietly on the ground, its head turned to the side, eyes still unblinking as they stared at Tuan Tuan.

Tuan Tuan looked at the line of people blocking her, pouted, and said, "Uncle Xiao Er, Uncle Lu Qi, he won't hurt me, don't worry. Let us pass."

Xiao Er and Lu Qi exchanged a glance and said in unison, "No!"

Tuan Tuan tugged at Xiao Ningxun's sleeve, looking at him earnestly, "Third Brother, you decide."

Xiao Ningxun looked down at her briefly, then lifted his gaze to his elder brother.

Xiao Ningyuan spread his hands, a helpless expression on his face, "It's already like this, let's listen to Tuan Tuan."

Xiao Ningxun was silent for a moment, squatted down, and looked at his sister, "Tuan Tuan, are you sure?"

Tuan Tuan nodded forcefully, "Sure!"

After speaking, she turned back and shouted toward the carriage, "Uncle! Bring Master's medicine box over!"

Sa Dike was startled, pointed at his own nose, his voice trembling: "Huh? Me? I've been hiding here, what about my business?"

"Exactly!" Tuan Tuan said confidently, "You're the only one on the carriage!"

Sa Dike: "…"
