Chapter 585: How painful!
Sa Dike sighed, resignedly ducked into the carriage, and lifted out the medicine box.
He kept staring at the giant, sprinted to the rear of the crowd, slammed the medicine box onto the ground, turned and ran, darting back into the carriage in a flash.
Tuan Tuan looked bewildered: "What are you afraid of?"
Sa Dike gave a dry laugh, thinking, Besides you, who isn't afraid?
Xiao Ningxun bent down, picked up the medicine box, and handed it to Xue Tong.
Xue Tong took it, drew a deep breath, led Tuan Tuan through the wall of people, and walked up to the giant's side.
The giant's injured arm lay flat on the ground.
Xue Tong looked at this arm, thicker and longer than his own leg and covered in long hair, and for a moment didn't know where to begin.
Tuan Tuan strode over on her short legs to the giant's head, locked eyes with him, and exclaimed, "Wow! Your eyeball is as big as my fist! It's gorgeous!"
She raised her little hand, pointed at Xue Tong, and said, "This is my Master! His medical skills are superb! Don't move, he's going to treat your wound."
The giant stared at her, his eyes full of confusion; evidently, these words were too complex for him.
Tuan Tuan thought for a moment, lifted her little arm, pointed upward, and made a motion of pulling something out: "He'll give you treatment!"
"Pull out that bad thing! Then it won't hurt!"
The giant's eyes lit up; he nodded as if suddenly understanding, and let out a low "ah-woo" from his throat.
Tuan Tuan turned her head satisfied and shouted at Xue Tong, "Master! I've agreed with him!"
Xue Tong's mouth twitched; Is it enough that you've just talked it over with it?
He lowered his head to examine the wound closely, his brows knitting tighter and tighter.
"Disciple, the arrowhead is sunk deep." He pointed at the wound's edge, "To pull it out we need to cut, carving away the surrounding flesh."
"Look here, and here," he indicated several blackened spots, "they're rotten and must be cut away too."
He lifted his head, gazing at the enormous head: "That's going to hurt a lot. What if it can't bear it and goes berserk?"
Tuan Tuan blinked, grabbed a handful of the giant's long hair, and started climbing up.
"Tuan Tuan!" everyone cried out in unison.
Xiao Er and Lu Qi lifted their legs to rush over, but Xiao Ningxun grabbed them and said, "Don't move!"
He fixed his gaze on his sister's every move, fists clenched: "Trust Tuan Tuan."
Tuan Tuan used hands and feet, and in a few moments clambered onto the giant's neck.
The giant's head twitched slightly, but did not dodge.
Tuan Tuan lay down, her little arms tightly encircling its neck: "Be good."
She softly said, "If I hold you, you won't hurt. Okay?"
The giant remained utterly still.
After a moment, it lifted its uninjured big hand, gently cradling Tuan Tuan's small body, securing her on its neck, and closed its eyes.
Everyone looked at each other, not knowing what to say anymore.
Xue Tong stared for an instant, then his confidence surged: "Great! With you here, I, as master, will go all out!"
He opened the medicine box, pulled out the largest knife, took out a firestarter, heated the blade back and forth, brought it to the wound, and swung down.
The motion was swift, clean, and decisive.
The rotting flesh was gouged out piece by piece, and blood streamed down the long hair.
The giant's body shuddered a few times, and a low whimper came from his throat.
Xiao Ningyuan and Xiao Ningxun shuddered: "Tuan Tuan!"
Xiao Er and Lu Qi's hearts leapt to their throats: "Miss!"
Tuan Tuan turned her head and shushed them.
She turned, gently patted the giant, and her voice sweet: "It'll be fine soon, don't be scared, don't be scared."
The whimpering gradually faded.
Xue Tong's knife tip gouged inward and then lifted.
"Pfft."
The arrowhead was dug out and fell to the ground.
Xue Tong caught his breath, shouted without turning: "Hey! That brown bottle—open it and bring it over!"
Kang An rushed to the medicine box, quickly pulled out the bottle, opened the lid, and handed it over.
Xue Tong took the bottle, evenly scattered the powder inside onto the wound, and the blood soon staunched.
Xue Tong glanced at the medicine box's contents, furrowed his brow: "The cloth is too small to wrap him. Bring me a clean robe!"
Xiao Er, without a word, turned and sprinted to a white camel, opened a chest, pulled out a clean blanket, and ran back swiftly.
"Is this big enough?"
Xue Tong took the blanket, measured it roughly, and nodded.
Sa Dike's eyes widened: "That's a Persian tapestry! One piece is worth……"
Before he could finish, Xue Tong swiftly wrapped the blanket around the wound.
Sa Dike sighed: "What an expensive wound dressing."
"Rope!"
Lu Qi felt his waist, untied his sash, and passed it over.
Xue Tong took it and, in a few moves, tied the blanket securely.
He exhaled, lifted his hand, and wiped the sweat from his forehead.
"All right." He stood, patted the hair on his hand, "Change the dressing daily for the first three days; after that no further care is needed. It should heal in about ten days."
Sa Dike stared, heart aching: "Huh? Still need three pieces?"
Tuan Tuan happily sat up from the giant's neck, her little face glowing: "All right! You won't hurt soon!"
The giant slowly opened his eyes, his big hand lifted again, gently placing Xiao Tuanzi beside his cheek, using his fluffy cheek to gently rub her, his gaze gentle as water.
Everyone's hearts, which had been suspended for a while, finally settled back down.
The giant slowly sat up, drew up his legs, and carefully placed Tuan Tuan on his knee.
Tuan Tuan sat steadily on a pile of long fur, curiously looking down.
"Wow!" Tuan Tuan's eyes sparkled, "You guys are so short!"
Xiao Ningxun smiled: "Sit tight, don't fall."
Xiao Ningyuan looked at his sister sitting on the giant's knee and couldn't help but say: "That's right, you don't even look where you're sitting."
Xiao Er and Lu Qi also laughed: "Miss, is it fun up there?"
Tuan Tuan grabbed a handful of the giant's long fur, kneading it with her two little hands, smiling with eyes bent: "Fun! So soft!"
She turned her head, pointing at Kang An on the ground: "Can he come up too?"
The giant followed her gaze and looked at Kang An.
Kang An involuntarily tensed up.
The giant's big hand reached over, using just two fingers to pinch the cloth at his back, and lifted him lightly.
Kang An rose into the air and landed beside Tuan Tuan.
He sat down close to Tuan Tuan, his face full of excitement: "Fun!"
Tuan Tuan laughed even happier, nodding vigorously: "Right?"
The hunters nearby had already been stunned into silence, motionless like wooden carvings.
Tuan Tuan looked at them, the smile fading from her face.
She furrowed her little brow, staring at the lead old hunter: "He's so well-behaved, why did you shoot him with an arrow? It must hurt!"
