Chapter 429: Your Tears Excite Me (Extra Update 2)

~8 min read 1,440 words

After kissing for about three minutes, Ke Zhongyu raised his head, pinching her chin with one hand, looking at Jiang Lai's kiss-dampened eyes, and asked in a hoarse voice, "Still dare to not listen?"

Jiang Lai had just been kissed breathless, her lips slightly parted, her gaze tracing the sculptural, three-dimensional contours of Ke Zhongyu's brow and eyes, and she shook her head slightly: "I don't know how to answer you. I want to say I don't dare anymore, but I also want to say I still dare."

They were both adults—how could Ke Zhongyu not understand the meaning behind those words? He leaned down and held her again, without kissing, only saying, "You'd better say you don't dare."

Jiang Lai raised her arms around his neck and said bluntly, "You just poked me."

Ke Zhongyu's breathing grew even heavier: "You still have a fever."

What he wanted to say was "A Lai, your mind isn't that clear," but A Lai seemed to have misunderstood part of it, whispering softly in his ear, "Doctor Chi said sweating it out will make it better."

Ke Zhongyu's lower abdomen tightened, half his body going numb.

"Do you know what you're saying?" He gently bit her earlobe, watching her shrink sensitively into his embrace—truly both brave and afraid.

Jiang Lai buried herself in his chest: "I know."

Ke Zhongyu held her tightly: "Chi Ce also said that sweating it out could cause dehydration, let alone strenuous exercise. You haven't fully broken your fever yet."

Jiang Lai said nothing more, just a muffled "Oh."

Ke Zhongyu felt he was being rather uncooperative, but he was worried about the severity of Jiang Lai's condition.

In the end, the two slept holding each other.

Jiang Lai didn't like heat and only covered herself with one quilt; Ke Zhongyu held both her and the quilt together in his arms.

Jiang Lai fell back asleep.

Ke Zhongyu, however, could no longer sleep—on one hand worried about Jiang Lai's body, on the other hand the restless fire within him, especially after the small hours arrived, when his body's instincts automatically awakened.

He had to get up and head to the bathroom.

Jiang Lai's words from the night were like a shot of stimulant injected into his body; cold water could no longer suppress the cells clamoring inside him.

He could only rely on his hand.

Going from luxury to frugality is hard; ever since Jiang Lai had helped him, even switching from his usual right hand to his left made it difficult to achieve the result he wanted.

Simply disastrous.

Jiang Lai slept through the day, woke at dusk and slept again, woke from heat at midnight and continued sleeping—destined not to sleep for long. Gradually surfacing from her dream, she heard the splashing sound of water coming from the bathroom.

At this moment she was drenched in sweat, her lips very dry. She reached for the water bottle on the nightstand and gulped down half of it—glug glug glug—her whole body smoothed out, and her originally groggy head cleared.

A dim yellow desk lamp was lit in the bedroom. Jiang Lai turned her head to look beside her—Ke Zhongyu wasn't there—so she looked up toward the direction of the water sound.

The water sound hadn't stopped.

Jiang Lai was a bit worried that Ke Zhongyu would soak himself until he swelled. She lifted the quilt and got out of bed; she had been carried in earlier and wasn't wearing slippers, so she walked over barefoot.

"Ke Zhongyu."

Perhaps the water was too loud; the person inside didn't hear.

Jiang Lai raised her hand and knocked: "Ke Zhongyu."

This time he heard.

The water stopped abruptly, and in less than a minute the bathroom door opened. Ke Zhongyu stood before Jiang Lai wrapped in a white bath towel, dripping wet.

The door was only half open, yet Jiang Lai still felt a wave of chill rush at her face.

"Why are you awake? Has the fever broken?" Ke Zhongyu dried his hands and pressed the back of his hand against Jiang Lai's forehead—not hot, the fever had broken. Her complexion was still a bit pale, but not entirely bloodless.

It was also this touch that made Jiang Lai say with certainty, "You took a cold shower."

Ke Zhongyu immediately withdrew his hand, looking away and changing the subject: "Go back and lie down, I'll be right out."

Jiang Lai didn't leave, quietly waiting for him to dry off and change into a bathrobe before coming out.

Ke Zhongyu opened the door and saw she was still standing there, so he simply lifted her up and held her in his arms.

Jiang Lai hung on him like a koala.

She hadn't tried this way of embracing before—not because it felt novel, but because her face was starting to grow hot.

Ke Zhongyu supported the backs of her thighs with one hand and cradled the back of her head with the other, gently rubbing it: "Feeling better?"

Jiang Lai wrapped her arms around his neck and nodded gently: "Better. Why did you take a cold shower?"

Ke Zhongyu's footsteps paused slightly: "Don't ask."

Jiang Lai: "I already asked."

Ke Zhongyu swallowed hard and said in a low voice: "To calm down."

Jiang Lai tightened her arms around his neck and said softly, "I'm not uncomfortable anymore. I'm better."

"How could it be that fast—your body is still weak." Ke Zhongyu carried her to the bedside and placed her back on the bed.

Jiang Lai watched him quietly.

No man could lock eyes with the woman he liked for more than five seconds without kissing her.

Ke Zhongyu couldn't help himself and kissed her.

Jiang Lai actively responded to him.

The cold shower from earlier was completely wasted.

A kiss in a dizzy, hazy state might be soft and intoxicating, but the back-and-forth in a clear-headed state was what truly made one sink.

As they kissed, Ke Zhongyu pinched Jiang Lai's chin again: "Think it through—from now on, you can only be mine."

Jiang Lai tilted her head up and answered him with a kiss.

After that, there was no stopping.

Ke Zhongyu had long been unable to hold back; now with permission granted, he wished he could immediately devour her alive.

Amid their panting, Jiang Lai suddenly remembered something: "There's nothing here."

"Did you forget, A Lai?" The man's voice when aroused was even more magnetic, like a hook, "Who said I didn't put any?"

"Do you remember now?"

Jiang Lai remembered—that day at home she had found things placed in many spots. She had questioned Ke Zhongyu about why he didn't put them at his own place, and Ke Zhongyu had replied, "Who said I didn't put any."

In the next second she heard the sound of a drawer being pulled open, and by the dim yellow light of the desk lamp she saw clearly what Ke Zhongyu was holding in his hand.

Ke Zhongyu bit it with his teeth, and the thing was torn open.

Jiang Lai closed her eyes, not daring to look, and as Ke Zhongyu's body, warm like a hot water bottle, drew near again, she turned her head and said, "Turn off the light."

Click, the desk lamp went out.

Thanks to A City's March still having short days and long nights, it was not yet daylight outside, and the room remained dark.

But no matter how dark it was, it couldn't stay that dark for long, especially after their eyes had adjusted to the darkness and they were so close that each other's appearance was clearly imprinted in the other's mind.

Jiang Lai felt light-headed again, but this sensation was completely different from the dizziness of a fever.

She felt like a small boat on the waves, swaying gently, rising and falling.

Pain, pleasure.

Too complex to describe.

Yet she found it sweet as candy.

Tears streamed down, and she clung to Ke Zhongyu's firm back, not letting go, fearing that her little boat would sink into the water.

Ke Zhongyu charged ahead like a wild horse that had broken free of its reins.

When his kiss reached the moisture at the corner of Jiang Lai's eyes, it was like parched earth meeting sweet rain after a long drought, gently absorbing.

She called out his name, intermittently.

He also called out her name, hoarse and low.

But he also said, "A Lai, your tears… excite me, but I only like you crying at times like this."

"A Lai."

"A Lai..."

Jiang Lai sank into his calls.

Ke Zhongyu went mad in her breathing sounds.
