Chapter 353: The Game Ends Here
Chris never spoke, and Lu Xiwan grew anxious.
"On your turf I can't even escape, let alone make some money?"
Lu Xiwan never expected these people to treat her well.
She just wanted to test how much Chris could endure.
Chris stared at Lu Xiwan with a scrutinizing gaze, and after about ten seconds he said, "You are now a hostage."
That much was obvious even without Chris saying it; Lu Xiwan knew it.
"So what?" Lu Xiwan reached up on her own to untie the rope binding her feet, then shifted to a more comfortable position and lay down on the bed.
Although she couldn't yet be certain of their true purpose, she was confident they wouldn't dare harm her for now.
That was also why Lu Xiwan felt she could act boldly.
"You don't look like you're short on money."
You can tell just from this room.
They have no idea how much profit they've made from such shady dealings.
Chris had his legs crossed, chin resting on his hand, watching Lu Xiwan with interest.
He suddenly found this woman very interesting; someone who could make Fu Sijue constantly think of her was certainly no ordinary person.
"I could take your life easily," Chris said, smiling lightly but his tone was dead serious.
He was telling the truth.
Lu Xiwan pondered; she knew the answer without needing proof.
To abduct her from the Vacation Villa despite so many guards, what kind of person could Chris be?
"I've never heard of an organization like yours in Haicheng; that can only mean you're not from Haicheng, you're very strong… I guess your main base must be elsewhere?"
Lu Xiwan leaned against the pillow, analyzing the situation seriously: "If you really wanted my life, you should have done it when you first brought me here, instead of wasting time talking with me."
After speaking, she turned her gaze to Chris, who was listening attentively.
"Mr. Chris, do you really want to hear my spiel, or are you simply too afraid to act against me?"
Those were the only two possibilities; Lu Xiwan finished speaking and then laughed first.
Since her life was safe, why should she fear Chris?
Chris stood up, gave Lu Xiwan a half‑smile, then clapped his hands.
"You're smart, but I don't like women who are too smart."
"Come in and change her clothes."
After saying that, Chris walked out, and Lu Xiwan seized the moment when the room was empty to let out a breath.
She was lucky; she had guessed right again.
A maid came in and brought Lu Xiwan a set of clean clothes; only when she went downstairs could she observe her surroundings.
The villa is large, but as far as she can tell only Chris lives here; there are sizable gardens front and back, and the hallways are splendidly decorated.
Chris is afraid others won't know he's wealthy.
"You look great in that dress," Chris said, raising his glass to Lu Xiwan, then suddenly added:
Lu Xiwan glanced down; it was just an ordinary plain white linen‑cotton dress, only on close inspection could one see the tone‑on‑tone subtle pattern, with tiny white flowers embroidered on the cuffs and collar.
"I'll just take it as Mr. Chris genuinely complimenting me—"
"Who gave you permission to wear this outfit!"
Before Lu Xiwan could finish her sentence, a female voice cut her off; a woman strode in, her gaze at Lu Xiwan intensely hostile, as if she wanted to devour her alive.
Chris frowned, set down his highball glass, and said, "Qiana, I told you to knock before entering."
Qiana didn't answer Chris; she just stared fixedly at Lu Xiwan, her eyes brimming with hatred.
"Who let you wear that?"
Having gotten no answer from Lu Xiwan, Qiana raised her voice another notch, the hands at her sides clenching tighter.
Her stubborn attitude made Ke Lin Dun very dissatisfied; he gave her a cold look.
"Are you here just to say that?" Ke Lin Dun's voice was as cold as ice water; he sat in his seat and locked eyes with Qiana.
Neither would yield to the other.
In the end Qiana backed down first: "I heard you brought this woman back."
She almost spat it out through gritted teeth; hearing her voice, Lu Xiwan's body went rigid instantly.
Qiana was the woman who had warned them from outside the window that day!
Lu Xiwan turned her head to look at Qiana: "You're the one from that night?"
Qiana smiled, but even in her smile her eyes were full of spite; this expression clashed horribly with her pretty face.
"You recognized me." Qiana switched back to English, which only strengthened Lu Xiwan's suspicion.
Qiana had done that on purpose, deliberately letting Lu Xiwan know how much she despised her.
Chris's gaze swept back and forth between the two of them.
"You can have whatever you want, but not her," Chris said in a low voice.
Qiana wouldn't yield to him either; she sat directly opposite him and said, "I only want her."
The two were at odds, and Lu Xiwan felt like a commodity in their hands for them to bargain over.
"You have no authority to decide this, Chris!"
Qiana's tone grew impatient; had it not been on Chris's turf, Lu Xiwan felt she would have just attacked outright.
Qiana wanted to kill her; this crystal‑clear realization stimulated Lu Xiwan's brain.
If Chris loosened his grip, she would be a lamb awaiting slaughter in Qiana's hands, utterly powerless to resist.
Qiana is not the rational sort that Chris is.
Lu Xiwan also hurriedly sat beside Chris, "You must protect me."
In the face of death, Lu Xiwan had no leisure to maintain her dignity.
"Trash." Qiana stared at Lu Xiwan, coldly spitting out the word.
Chris suddenly laughed out, sizing up Lu Xiwan as if looking at a cute toy.
"I can understand this as the weak clinging to me, can't I?" Chris turned his head to face Qiana, and his aura turned icy.
"I'm sorry, today no one can take away my cute little pet, not even you, Qiana."
He really was like raising a pet, watching Lu Xiwan eat with interest.
Qiana also didn't leave, her icy gaze fixed on Lu Xiwan, continuously emitting free cold air.
The atmosphere was practically freezing enough to kill.
With two time‑bomb explosives sitting beside her, Lu Xiwan felt as if sitting on pins and needles, yet she still had to stay calm, and the food in her mouth had lost all flavor.
"I'm done eating."
Lu Xiwan set down her chopsticks, sat there expressionless, not daring to move a muscle.
Who knows what excuse they'll use to give her trouble.
Qiana maintained the same posture for several minutes, her biggest movement merely blinking.
Won't she get tired? Lu Xiwan wondered.
"Today's game ends here; stop bothering my little pet, Qiana."
Chris's one remark broke the deadlock; he impatiently looked at the extremely patient Qiana.
