Chapter 79: Shouldn't Have Agreed to Yao Yao
Lu Xiwan faced Gu Qingmeng's scrutiny calmly. "I didn't come here to argue with you."
Fu Sijue and Yao Yao walked in, looking at the disheveled Gu Qingmeng through a glass wall.
Gu Qingmeng lunged at the wall as if grasping at a lifeline, tears streaming down her face in an instant.
"Sijue, please save me. I really know I was wrong. I know you love me. Save me, won't you?"
Her pleading voice came clearly through the speaking holes in the wall, her wails sending chills down Lu Xiwan's spine.
Gu Qingmeng didn't know she was wrong; she was just afraid of dying.
Watching coldly as Gu Qingmeng struggled desperately, Lu Xiwan felt a pang of pain in her heart.
The pity was that a child as young as Yao Yao had to face all this.
"We came to see you off on your final journey."
Faced with a Gu Qingmeng like this, Fu Sijue had nothing to say. He lifted Yao Yao onto a chair and stood with his back to the glass wall.
"Yao Yao, go beg your daddy! Tell him to save me!"
By the end, Gu Qingmeng was hysterical, pounding on the solid glass wall like a madwoman.
Yao Yao watched Gu Qingmeng calmly, waiting until she stopped before speaking.
"Did you ever love me?" Even just a little.
Gu Qingmeng's eyes widened in disbelief. "What are you talking about! Tell them to let me out! I'm about to die!"
Yao Yao turned expressionlessly to look at Lu Xiwan. "Mommy, let's go home."
Gu Qingmeng, having lost her last hope, began cursing loudly in the cell.
Fu Yao buried his face in Lu Xiwan's chest, clutching tightly at her clothes.
Gu Qingmeng's answer had done considerable damage to Yao Yao. Lu Xiwan shook her head helplessly at Fu Sijue.
She placed Yao Yao in the child safety seat, closed the car door, and talked with Fu Sijue outside.
"Gu Qingmeng's matter has affected Yao Yao a lot. He's grown much closer to you recently, but getting him out of the shadows will still need your help."
Blood ties, after all, are something no one else can replace.
Yao Yao remained silent the whole way back, staring gloomily at the scenery speeding past the window.
Lu Xiwan could see he was deeply hurt.
Lu Xixi had been waiting anxiously outside Hengshan Gongguan. Seeing Lu Xiwan's grave expression, she silently suppressed her restless curiosity.
"Brother Yao Yao, don't be sad."
Lu Xixi reached out to take Yao Yao's hand, but he slapped it away with a sharp crack.
Yao Yao looked at Xixi impatiently, his eyes hollow.
"Get out of my way!"
Xixi's eyes brimmed with tears. She bit her pink lips and stared at Yao Yao in disbelief.
"Brother Yao Yao..."
Before she could finish, Yao Yao shoved her aside.
Lu Xixi lost her balance and fell backward. Fu Sijue, quick-eyed and swift-handed, rushed over and caught her.
But Yao Yao acted as if he hadn't seen anything, walking past the flustered trio straight into the living room, where he sat expressionlessly on the sofa.
Lu Xiwan didn't have time to check on Xixi's condition; she hurried after Yao Yao.
She forcibly straightened Yao Yao's body and forced him to meet her eyes.
"Do you know what you just did?"
Yao Yao made no move, letting Lu Xiwan manipulate him like a wooden puppet.
Lu Xiwan frowned deeply.
If she had known it would come to this, she should never have agreed to let Yao Yao see Gu Qingmeng.
"Look at this watch." Lu Xiwan took out a pocket watch and held it in front of Fu Yao, speaking softly in a gentle voice near his ear.
After about ten minutes, Yao Yao's eyelids finally drooped and he fell into a deep sleep, collapsing headfirst onto the sofa.
"Everything that just happened was a nightmare. When you wake up, none of it will exist. Sleep."
Lu Xiwan rubbed her temples wearily.
The long-term treatment had already given Yao Yao a strong rebellious streak.
This condition would only grow more severe as he got older.
Lu Xiwan stood up and turned to look at Fu Sijue. "I can only temporarily suppress Yao Yao's negative emotions. The effects this has on his body are beyond my power to change."
