Chapter 14: This Little Wolf‑Dog Is Way Too Eager!
The department store's glass counters were polished to a shine, and the merchandise was a dazzling array; although it couldn't compare to later malls, it was already enough to dazzle people in this era.
Jiang Ran was clearly a regular here, and he confidently pulled Su Ruan straight toward the Ready-made Clothing counter.
The sales clerk, seeing Jiang Ran and the beautiful yet plainly dressed girl beside him, looked curious but remained very enthusiastic: "Jiang Comrade is here, what would you like to see?"
"Buy her clothes— the newest, the best, bring them all out!" Jiang Ran waved his hand grandly, full of authority.
The clerk hurriedly fetched several garments displayed in the most prominent spot.
There was a bright red checkered Dress, a crisp white Daqeli shirt paired with a blue pinafore, and a beige knitted cardigan—all the latest fashions.
"Which one do you like? Try it on!"
Jiang Ran's eyes lit up, thinking every piece would look good on Su Ruan.
Su Ruan looked at the clothes, feeling a stir inside.
As a former Limit-Text Female Protagonist who had traversed many worlds and enjoyed top‑tier luxury goods, her taste was on point.
Although the designs were simple, the materials and workmanship were quite good for this era.
She pointed to the beige knitted cardigan and a simple black pair of trousers: "I'll try this first."
The color was gentle and easy to match.
"Try a few more! Try them all!" Jiang Ran still wanted more, shoving the Dress and the white shirt at her, "Hurry and try them!"
The clerk smiled and pointed toward the fitting room.
Su Ruan, clutching a pile of clothes, entered the makeshift fitting room separated by a cloth curtain.
Just as she pulled the curtain closed and was about to change, the curtain was suddenly ripped open and a tall figure squeezed in.
The fitting room was already cramped; with two people jammed in, the space became stifling, and the air seemed to heat up.
Su Ruan startled, looked up, and found it was Jiang Ran!
He wore a mischievous grin, his eyes dazzling, and said confidently, "The space is so small, I'll hold the clothes for you. Besides… I need to see if they fit and look good."
What a terribly lame excuse!
Su Ruan, both angry and amused, pushed him, "Get out! Who lets you watch someone trying on clothes? What are you even saying!"
"I won't! I just want to watch!"
Jiang Ran acted brazenly, not only staying but pulling the curtain tighter, his gaze fixed on the nearby Su Ruan.
In the cramped space, they could almost feel each other's warm breath.
He watched her slightly flushed cheeks, her watery eyes widened in surprise, her lips lightly pursed from nerves, and his Adam's apple rolled involuntarily.
Yesterday's fleeting glimpse and that impulsive kiss were far from soothing his restless heart.
"You go out quickly…"
Su Ruan, feeling uncomfortable under his stare, reached out to push him again, but he seized her wrist.
His palm was scorching, the force modest, yet it carried an unmistakable demand.
"RuanRuan…" his voice was slightly hoarse, with a hint of seduction, "You're already my wife, how about I take a look? Huh?"
As he spoke, his gaze fell on the buttons of her old clothes, his eyes darkening.
Su Ruan's heart skipped a beat.
This little wolf‑dog is way too eager! This is a fitting room!
She's not some naïve innocent.
As a former Limit-Text Female Protagonist who had roamed the edge of desire, she knew exactly what a man's gaze meant.
She didn't push him away; instead she lifted her eyes to meet his scorching stare, a sly, teasing smile curling her lips, her voice low: "Brother, are you that impatient? There are people outside…"
Her "brother" was said soft and coquettish, like a hook, completely different from the tone she used yesterday in the Billiard Hall.
Jiang Ran's breathing suddenly grew heavy, and his grip on her wrist tightened.
He hadn't expected Su Ruan not only not to be frightened, but to dare tease him!
"You…" his throat was terribly dry.
Su Ruan seized the chance, slipped her hand free, turned her back to him, and said casually, as if the earlier flirtation weren't hers: "Then can you check the label on the back, what size is this? I can't reach it."
Her sudden shift left Jiang Ran with a breath stuck in his chest, unable to rise or fall, choking with discomfort.
And she wore an innocent expression.
He could only, irritated, step forward and glance haphazardly at the label on the back of her neck: "Medium!"
"Oh." Su Ruan replied, then began to unbutton her old garment slowly and deliberately.
One, two…
Delicate fingers, slow movements, the skin subtly revealed.
Jiang Ran's eyes fixed on her motions, feeling blood surge to a point, his brain buzzing, almost exploding!
She was definitely doing it on purpose!
Just as Su Ruan unbuttoned the third button, revealing a sliver of jade‑like back, Jiang Ran inhaled sharply, as if he could no longer bear the sweet torment, muttering lowly: "Cao!"
Then he spun around abruptly, nearly stumbling as he ripped the curtain open and bolted out!
If he stayed any longer, he couldn't guarantee what he might do!
Standing outside the fitting room, Jiang Ran gasped heavily, his cheeks flushed, his heart pounding like a drum.
He fidgeted with his hair irritably, trying to dispel the dazzling white image and the alluring scene from his mind.
The clerk looked at him curiously: "Jiang Comrade, are you okay? Why is your face so red?"
"Hot… hot!"
Jiang Ran snapped back, moved aside, grabbed the enamel jar on the counter and gulped several mouthfuls of cold plain water, trying to quell the fire inside.
In his mind he scolded Su Ruan over and over: "You little imp! You're killing me!"
In the fitting room, Su Ruan heard Jiang Ran's frantic escape and the muttered expletive, and couldn't help covering her mouth and giggling aloud.
You little brat, fighting with your sister? Still a bit too green!
She, in a pleasant mood, changed into new clothes, tidied her appearance, and only then gracefully lifted the curtain and stepped out.
"Jiang Ran, what do you think of this piece?"
Her voice returned to its previously sweet and soft tone, as if the alluring, intangible little imp in the fitting room earlier was not her at all.
Jiang Ran, hearing the voice, turned his head, and at a glance instantly forgot his earlier frustration and embarrassment, his eyes straightening again.
He saw Su Ruan wearing that beige knit cardigan paired with black trousers; the simple, elegant style perfectly highlighted her slender figure.
The gentle hue made her skin appear even whiter and more luminous, and she seemed to glow, pure yet charming.
"So... beautiful!" Jiang Ran couldn't take his eyes off her, only nodding dumbly.
