Chapter 21: Zhao Shunfa Captured
After leaving Jinsha Police Station, Chen Yang drove Lin Wei to her residence.
Lin Wei's house is rented, with the lease ending at the end of the month. Many household items in the room were originally intended for secondhand disposal, but she now plans to move them all to Chen Yang's rented place.
This is a huge project, with a dazzling array of items to move and organize. Besides her collection of books accumulated over the years and seasonal clothing, there are also refrigerators, color TVs, air conditioners, desktop computers, fabric sofas, and other large appliances.
Chen Yang now has money and doesn't want to go through too much trouble, so he directly called a moving company to handle it. He only helped Lin Wei pack her books and personal items. Even so, it took over two hours.
When the moving company had moved all the items into Chen Yang's rented place, the originally empty room was instantly filled.
Looking at the room full to the brim, almost overflowing with various household items, Chen Yang felt deep admiration for Lin Wei.
You should know that over the past four years of college, Lin Wei had packed her schedule to the brim. The dual pressure of studies and work kept her busy every day like a spinning top.
Yet, even amidst such a tense and hectic lifestyle, she somehow managed to carve out leisure time to meticulously create a cozy little home. This is completely unlike the life he imagined for a second-generation official.
In his previous life, Chen Yang had also experienced the stage of being a father. Regarding the upbringing environment and lifestyle of children, he also had a say.
He thought that, like Liu Qingqing, with belongings randomly placed and in disorder; daily life only knowing indulgence, eating, drinking, playing without omission; that is what a normal silver-spoon-born second-generation offspring looks like. Compared to them, Lin Wei is more of an oddball.
However, this way, Chen Yang finally felt a hint of home's warmth in his rented place.
After everything was tidied up, the sky had also grown dark.
Liu Qingqing didn't come back; after calling to ask, I learned she went to a gathering with Liu Shijie and would be playing until very late.
Chen Yang cooked two bowls of beef noodles and made do with Lin Wei for dinner.
These days, whenever Chen Yang had free time he would flip through Old Man Zhang's notes, occasionally even visiting him in person for advice; his cooking skills noticeably improved. After Lin Wei finished eating, she gave him a big thumbs-up and said he had the potential to be a househusband.
Chen Yang gave her a glance. A proper seven-foot man, standing tall between heaven and earth, how could he be relegated to indoor chores, becoming a house cook!
He even solemnly demanded that Miss Lin Wei wash the dishes clean.
Unexpectedly, Lin Wei did not refuse. After washing the dishes, she turned on the TV, sat on the sofa, and quietly watched the News Broadcast.
Previously, as one of many "financial consumers," Chen Yang also had the habit of guarding the TV to watch the News Broadcast. But as the internet became increasingly developed and phone functions grew richer, this habit gradually faded from his life.
Lin Wei, as the future prefect of Clear Water County, harbors grand ambitions and lofty vision. It is quite normal for her to follow national affairs through the News Broadcast.
Chen Yang is different; he already knows the development trends of the next twenty years. Whether or not he watches the News Broadcast, he is clear about his direction forward.
So, when Lin Wei watches TV, he lies sideways on the sofa, closing his eyes to rest. Perhaps he was too tired from moving during the day, and this closing of his eyes sent him straight to sleep.
When he woke up, the sky was already bright. A thin blanket covered him, but Lin Wei was not beside him.
He got up and checked the bedroom, but there was no sign of anyone. Even the bedsheet showed no trace of having been disturbed.
He was puzzling over this when he heard a cheerful laugh coming from next door. The voice's owner was all too familiar to him—it was Lin Wei and Liu Qingqing. It turns out she spent the night at Liu Qingqing's place!
Aren't they love rivals? How did they suddenly become this close?
Could it be that Lin Wei likes not only men but also women?
Chen Yang hastily suppressed his wicked thoughts. Just as he was about to go next door to check things out, his phone rang.
It was Chen Bing calling.
"Chen Yang, I have good news for you: an eyewitness identified the hired killer. Just as Lin Wei guessed, it really is one of your roommates, Zhao Shunfa."
"Did Zhao Shunfa say it was Zhang Jun who ordered it?"
"No, he insists he did it himself."
Chen Yang felt a bit disappointed; he hadn't expected Zhao Shunfa to still be so loyal at this point. In his previous life, when Zhang Jun's business went bankrupt, he and Tang Kun had almost simultaneously stabbed him in the back.
"Brother Bing, may I go see Zhao Shunfa?"
"Sure, I'll arrange it for you."
Chen Yang informed Lin Wei of the news that Zhao Shunfa had been caught. Her face showed surprisingly no surprise; she merely reminded Chen Yang not to act rashly when meeting Zhao Shunfa.
Chen Yang thought to himself: How could I not be excited? If it weren't for good luck, I'd be in a wheelchair by now.
If possible, Chen Yang really wanted to press Zhao Shunfa to the ground and give him a fierce beating.
Having lived together for four years, even beasts would develop feelings. Yet they, in order to curry favor with Zhang Jun, completely disregarded the bond of roommates and the friendship of classmates. They are worse than beasts!
Burning with unnamed anger, Chen Yang drove to the University Town Police Station.
The one receiving him was a pretty female officer in her twenties. After verifying his identity, she led Chen Yang to the precinct chief's office. A man in his forties with a stern expression sat inside working. When Chen Yang looked at him, he also opened his eyes to size up Chen Yang.
"Are you Chen Yang? I am Hu Tiejun, a comrade-in-arms of Lin Wei's father."
Chen Yang froze for a moment, then after realizing, he hurriedly called out "Uncle Hu" before stating his purpose.
Hu Tiejun said: "Your luck is not bad. Based on the graduation photo provided by Weiwei, we asked the shops near the public phone booth. They all confirmed that Zhao Shunfa had made a call there."
Only then did Chen Yang understand why Lin Wei was so calm; it turned out she had already settled everything while he was asleep.
Chen Yang suddenly felt a bit moved. This domineering, willful woman, for his sake, actually did not hesitate to break ties with the Zhang family.
Under Hu Tiejun's arrangement, Chen Yang met Zhao Shunfa, who was detained in the interrogation room. His spirit was poor; upon seeing Chen Yang, his facial expression was complex—there was guilt, but more jealousy and resentment.
"Chen Yang, heaven is terribly unfair. In what ways are my conditions inferior to yours? Why does Lin Wei like you?"
"Is that the point? Who Lin Wei likes is her freedom. And you……" Chen Yang looked at Zhao Shunfa and sneered: "You schemed to deal with a roommate who had lived with you for four years, without complaint, doing your cleaning and washing your socks. Do you still have any conscience?"
Zhao Shunfa's face flushed slightly but quickly returned to normal. He firmly said: "Chen Yang, don't spread false accusations; the one who harmed you is me, and it has nothing to do with others."
"Heh heh, with your family's finances, could you come up with 100,000? Oh, wait……" Chen Yang suddenly thought of something and smiled at him: "If he found out you only spent 100,000, what would the result be?"
Zhao Shunfa's face instantly turned ugly. He knows Zhang Jun; if the latter found out he had embezzled 400,000, the consequences would be dire!
