Chapter 78: Lin Yang Refuses to Give Up
Dormitory Building 8, Room 115.
After hanging up the phone in disappointment, Lin Yang scratched his head, sat before his laptop, and let out a long, heavy sigh.
Zhu Baoping, who was lying on the floor doing push-ups, asked skeptically, "What, Old Shen won't let you move in?"
Lin Yang repeated Shen Yan's excuse.
Zhu Baoping was incredibly envious, "Old Shen has some real skill; maybe it won't be long before the two of them are living together."
Tang Song looked up from his book and said, "Old Shen has a girlfriend; it really isn't appropriate for you to move in."
"If you ask me, you should just pursue someone else. That Chen Shanni is quite good; she's also from Shanghai and has a shy, gentle personality. As long as you put in a little effort with a girl like that, the chances of success are quite high."
Tang Song truly felt that a tough nut like Wu Yue'er was not something a hot-headed youth like Lin Yang could crack. If it were Shen Yan, there might be a sliver of a chance, but unfortunately, Shen Yan was already taken. He wondered which guy would eventually be able to conquer this thorny rose.
Lin Yang felt a bit of inner turmoil. After having seen a girl as sweet and gentle as Hao Anqi, her every smile and frown, along with her unique temperament, lingered in Lin Yang's mind.
However, Wu Yue'er's existence was like a unique ray of light, forming a sharp contrast with Hao Anqi's gentleness. Wu Yue'er might not be as sweet, but her frankness and boldness deeply tugged at Lin Yang's heartstrings.
It was a charm different from the gentle girls he had known in the past.
At this moment, Lin Yang's heart was filled with contradiction and confusion. He did not know if he could win over Wu Yue'er; the road ahead was vast and hazy, with almost no hope in sight.
The only thing worth finding comfort in was that, compared to other boys, he could at least talk to Wu Yue'er and play games with her.
This dilemma left him unable to make up his mind for the time being.
What worried him most was that if he failed to win over Chen Shanni and completely cut off his chance to pursue Wu Yue'er, he would truly be beyond tears.
Seeing that Lin Yang would not turn back until he hit a brick wall, Tang Song stopped saying anything. He was exhausted! Just let it all be destroyed!
On the other side, after Shen Yan returned to Danqingyuan Residential Complex, he sent a message to Wu Yue'er.
"Heard you moved in. Do you still want the teddy bear? I'll bring it up for you."
Wu Yue'er: "Yes, yes, yes! Waiting for you upstairs."
After parking his bike, Shen Yan hugged the large gray teddy bear and took the elevator to the 8th floor. There were four apartments on the floor; Shen Yan lived in 802, Chen Shanni lived in 801, and the other two families had moved in months ago.
"Knock, knock, knock!"
The door to 801 opened, and Wu Yue'er appeared before him wearing an oversized T-shirt. The hem of the shirt created a "pants-disappearing" look, covering only a third of her thighs.
Her pair of beautiful legs were truly long, white, and slender.
Shen Yan handed over the teddy bear and asked, "Was Youwei alright later?"
Wu Yue'er adjusted the pink glasses on the bridge of her nose, gazed at Shen Yan gloomily, and said, "Just like that. She kept spacing out and didn't really respond when I talked to her."
Shen Yan felt a bit uncomfortable being stared at; he touched his face and asked, "Is there something wrong with me?" Wu Yue'er shook her head and asked, "When did you and Hao Anqi get together? How come I never heard you mention it?"
"The day we had the stir-fried rice noodles," Shen Yan replied casually.
The last glimmer of hope in Wu Yue'er's heart shattered completely like a mirror. The two had been together for so long, and their feelings were still so good; it seemed there was no possibility of them breaking up in the short term.
At this moment, she couldn't help but feel fortunate that she hadn't revealed her true feelings, otherwise the situation would have been so awkward; perhaps they wouldn't even be able to be friends.
Yet, while feeling fortunate, there was even more sadness.
After closing the door, Wu Yue'er leaned against it, recalling every little detail of her time with Shen Yan: his humor, their intellectual compatibility, the time Chen Shanni lost money and Shen Yan's casual trust, him taking her for a wild ride on the sea, the video game arcade, the ring-toss game at the street stall, and his outstanding performance in class today.
Without realizing it, that person had already quietly occupied her entire heart.
Wu Yue'er had never known that liking someone could be so intense. For Shen Yan's sake, she was even slowly changing her personality, acting more gentle and feminine.
She could clearly feel that after the trip to Cangnan began, the flames dancing in Shen Yan's eyes—Shen Yan wasn't uninterested in her, but was deliberately suppressing his own emotions.
Now she finally understood the reason for this deliberate suppression.
It wasn't that he didn't like her, but that he couldn't because of Hao Anqi.
On the first day of school, if she hadn't acted so rudely, perhaps the two of them would have been together long ago; there would have been no room for Hao Anqi.
Sigh! Let's just wait and see!
After a long sigh, Wu Yue'er returned to her room, feeling utterly dejected.
The next day, Shen Yan climbed out of bed early in the morning. Since he had no classes in the morning, Shen Yan prepared to take Shen Nainai out for a good tour of Hangzhou.
It was a rare visit, and after touring around, Shen Nainai would be able to brag to her old friends back in Cangnan about how filial her grandson was, taking her all over Hangzhou.
For an elderly person, nothing is more joyful than seeing their descendants be filial and sensible. When they hear their old friends sincerely praise their descendants, that feeling is truly impossible to describe in words.
It is a complex emotion filled with gratification, pride, and being moved.
Sure enough, when Shen Nainai heard that Shen Yan was planning to take her out for a stroll, although she said it wasn't necessary, the smile at the corners of her mouth could not be suppressed.
"Why don't you call Youwei? She definitely hasn't toured Hangzhou yet; it'll be livelier with another person."
Hearing Shen Nainai's suggestion, Shen Yan couldn't help but feel a headache. Given the current situation, it was better to let Yu Youwei calm down for a while.
So, Shen Yan made up a random excuse, saying Yu Youwei had things to take care of, and Shen Nainai finally dropped the idea.
Early autumn in Hangzhou had a bit of a chill, but the sunlight cast a layer of warmth upon the body. The sky was high and the clouds were thin; it was quiet and cozy.
It wasn't until one in the afternoon that the grandmother and grandson returned to their residence. Shen Yan didn't have time to rest and rode his little electric scooter to the classroom for his lecture.
The afternoon consisted of two English classes. Looking around, Shen Yan didn't see a single familiar face. According to regulations, when freshmen enter Hangzhou University, they are placed into classes based on their college entrance exam English scores, divided into four levels: A, B, C, and D. Each level has different learning intensities to better teach students in accordance with their aptitude.
English had always been Shen Yan's strong suit, so he was assigned to the elite A1 Class.
Shen Yan sat down in his usual spot in the last row, against the wall.
