Chapter 79: An Invitation to Visit

~7 min read 1,400 words

Before long, a female teacher of about twenty-five or twenty-six, wearing glasses, walked up to the podium and said she would take attendance.

Those whose names were called were to shout "here."

"Li Gang!"

"Here!"

"Shen Yan!"

"Here!"

Every time she called a name, the female teacher would look at the corresponding person's face, seemingly wanting to commit everyone to memory and match names to faces.

After answering "here," Shen Yan went back to chatting with Hao Anqi on his own.

Hao Anqi: "You promised to go dancing with me before, when are you going to fulfill that promise?"

Shen Yan: "When? How come I don't remember that?"

Hao Anqi: "Roar! Don't you try to welch on me, I have the chat history as proof."

Immediately after, an image was sent over.

Shen Yan smiled amusedly and said: "Then what reward are you prepared to give me?"

Hao Anqi: "I discovered claw marks all over that place when I was showering yesterday, and you still want a reward (pouting)."

Shen Yan awkwardly rubbed his nose; he had accidentally used a bit too much force.

However, for the little girl to chat with him about such topics, it seemed their intimacy index had risen by a large margin once again.

"Ahem! You arrange it, I'll go along with whatever."

Hao Anqi: "Hmph! That's more like it."

"Chen Shanni!"

Just as the two were chatting, the female teacher called out a name.

Shen Yan looked up, but didn't see Chen Shanni.

The female teacher pushed up the glasses on the bridge of her nose: "Is Chen Shanni here? Chen Shanni!"

"Here!"

A voice as crisp and gentle as a silver bell rang out from outside the door. The next moment, Chen Shanni walked in, wearing a creamy-green Chanel-style knit cardigan, shoulder-length short hair, and a pair of blue high-waisted trousers, giving off a strong sense of fashion.

Shen Yan discovered that the girls in the Dormitory were all particularly good at coordinating their outfits; perhaps this was a common trait among beauties.

The female teacher didn't fuss over Chen Shanni being late, waved her hand, and said: "Go on in!"

Hearing this, Chen Shanni let out a slight sigh of relief. She had always been punctual, and instances of being late were few and far between in her life's journey. However, she really wasn't very familiar with the campus; despite setting off twenty minutes early, she had wandered around in circles and ended up at the wrong teaching building.

She was almost moved to tears by her own stupidity.

The male students in the class perked up. Under normal circumstances, the primary task of attending class was to study, but that didn't stop them from pursuing the girls they liked. It was rare to encounter someone of such high quality; he who strikes first gains the advantage, he who strikes later suffers.

They were all looking forward to having close contact with the goddess.

Scanning the room, Chen Shanni suddenly noticed the figure in the last row by the window. Her eyes lit up, and she quickly trotted over, saying softly: "Can I sit next to you?"

Shen Yan said: "Of course, I just worry that sitting in the back will affect your studies."

Chen Shanni brushed back the hair on her forehead, a smile appearing on her round, jade-like face: "You sit in the last row and I haven't seen your studies affected; you crushed everyone in the class the moment you started."

"Haha! You've even learned to joke now." Shen Yan looked at her in surprise.

Chen Shanni lowered her head slightly; she could still show her sincere and warm side to friends she was familiar with.

Seeing the two chatting happily, clearly having a close relationship, the other men cursed under their breath, and those little thoughts of theirs were instantly extinguished.

The forest is vast, how could one hang oneself on a single tree?

The boys comforted themselves in their hearts.

After sitting down, the two didn't communicate much more. The English teacher began lecturing at the front, but Shen Yan turned a deaf ear to it all, focusing solely on flipping through his book. His eyes scanned as fast as lightning, as if he were a high-efficiency printer, precisely imprinting various key points of knowledge into his mind.

Ordinary people seeing this would only think Shen Yan was skimming through it, grandstanding, and that it would have almost no effect.

Yet Chen Shanni was the exception. She knew deep down that Shen Yan's memory was extraordinary and that this kind of learning efficiency could not be replicated. She could only take it one step at a time, striving to do the best she was capable of.

Not knowing how much time had passed, the phone in Shen Yan's pocket vibrated. He took it out and saw a message from Lin Yang.

"Old Shen, you moved into a new place and didn't even invite us over to sit for a while."

After pondering for a moment, Shen Yan typed: "I'll go buy some groceries after class and treat you all to a meal at home."

Lin Yang: "Hehe! I've been craving Brother Rice Noodle's cooking for a long time, I must have a good taste today."

"I'll notify Tang and Zhu right now. Tang has a girlfriend, do you think we should invite her too?"

Shen Yan: "Invite her. Go ask if Youwei is coming."

Lin Yang understood perfectly and indicated it was on him. In his eyes, Shen Yan at this moment was like a true warrior, daring to face a bleak life and daring to look directly at dripping blood.

Then, Lin Yang, having an ulterior motive, asked Shen Yan to call Yue'er as well, saying the more people, the merrier.

If he was calling Yue'er, he couldn't leave out Shanni.

After putting down his phone, Shen Yan briefly explained the situation. Chen Shanni readily agreed. She had eaten everything from delicacies of land and sea to bird's nest and shark fin; the reason she agreed was simply to taste Shen Yan's cooking.

Just as the dinner gathering was settled, Hao Anqi sent a message asking if they should eat together tonight.

Shen Yan: "A few roommates said they wanted to see the new place, so I'm planning to treat them to a meal."

Hao Anqi: "You didn't call me when there's good food (aggrieved)."

Shen Yan: "Youwei is coming too, I'll talk to her tonight."

Hao Anqi: "Alright then! Little Qiqi has been heartlessly abandoned (aggrieved)."

Two English classes passed quietly.

When class ended, the English teacher said: "As the best class among the fast-track classes, I hope everyone in A1 Class will work hard and strive to pass the CET-4 exam in the first semester. Additionally, those planning to go abroad should ideally take the TOEFL exam; most top schools have strict requirements in this regard."

Shen Yan had no plans to go abroad and didn't take it to heart at all. After greeting Chen Shanni, he headed straight for the South Main Gate of Hangzhou University, to the vegetable market on Renmin Road.

At four in the afternoon, the rays of the setting sun had already dimmed, and the clouds in the sky had gradually dispersed, becoming sparse.

Come to think of it, this was Shen Yan's first time at the vegetable market here; the lively atmosphere inside was very intense, with various shouts and noises interweaving to create a unique ambiance.

All kinds of fresh ingredients were gathered here, colorful and dazzling, with incandescent lights spilling over the various stalls, adding color and vitality to this stage of life.

After strolling around for a lap, Shen Yan already had quite a few ingredients in his hands; it had to be said that as the provincial capital of Zhe Province and one of the central cities of the Yangtze River Delta, while Hangzhou had high wages, the cost of living was also a cut above Cangnan County.

There are gains and there are losses.

Of course, the vast majority of wage earners still unhesitatingly chose to flock to big cities; if one could earn a salary of three thousand back home, one could often get five thousand in a big city, and as long as one was a bit frugal during daily life, one could have a bit more liquid capital on hand.
