Chapter 60: Hugging Back and Forth

~8 min read 1,475 words

"Fengcheng, First Hospital."

"But I was still in Xijiang yesterday."

"It was your Brother Han who found a private jet to bring you back."

A helicopter?

"Where did Brother Han find a private jet?" Bai Shuruo asked.

Han Yangting looked silently at the confused little woman before him. Hadn't she been questioning his lack of money all along? Then he would continue to pretend to be poor. He crossed his arms over his chest and said, "Borrowed it from a rich second-generation friend."

Bai Shuruo realized belatedly: "In other words, I'm not dreaming right now?"

"You're awake; you're not dreaming." Bai Shunan couldn't help but pinch Bai Shuruo's cheek, then added helplessly: "You little scatterbrain."

Bai Shuruo thought of the foolish things she had just done to Han Yangting, and her face slowly began to burn. She then pulled the quilt over and covered herself completely.

It was too shameful; why was she so stupid?

The others also understood what was going on. Bai Shunan looked at Han Yangting and shrugged helplessly.

Bai Shuhua, however, spoke up: "I get it now. After the Second Sister woke up, she kept thinking she was dreaming, which is why she touched the Second Brother-in-law, right? Hahaha, the Second Sister is so silly. There are some things she wants to do but doesn't dare to, so she only dares to do them in her dreams."

Lin Wanfen scolded Bai Shuhua: "Shuhua, don't talk nonsense."

But Lin Wanfen herself couldn't hold back her laughter.

Inside the quilt, Bai Shuruo now wished she could dig a hole and crawl into it.

But everyone in the room was looking at her, and she couldn't just keep her head covered and hide forever. She simply threw off the quilt and said: "I... I was indeed muddled from the illness. The me from just now was not the real me."

It would have been better if she hadn't explained; once she did, even Bai Shunan couldn't help but laugh out loud, and Bai Shuhua was laughing so hard she nearly collapsed onto the floor.

Han Yangting's lips curled, and laughter erupted from his chest.

Bai Shuruo's altitude sickness was indeed a bit severe. The doctor was worried she might develop pulmonary edema, so they kept her in the hospital for a few more days of observation.

Bai Shunan and the others went back, while Han Yangting stayed in the hospital to take care of her.

This ward was a single VIP room; it had a hospital bed, a companion bed, and a small kitchen on the balcony where one could cook meals and porridge.

When only she and Han Yangting were left in the ward, she felt at a loss again.

Before, she had misunderstood him as being gay—that knot had yet to be untied—and now she had made a huge fool of herself. Plus, during the time they were apart, the ambiguous nature of his social media posts made her feel that their relationship was no longer so pure.

She felt both nervous and awkward.

Han Yangting walked over and asked her: "Ruoruo, are you hungry? What would you like to eat?"

She thought for a moment, "Is vegetable porridge okay? I wonder if the hospital allows food delivery. Let's order some takeout."

"It's a special period right now; the hospital doesn't allow delivery drivers to enter," Han Yangting said. "I'll go cook it for you."

"Then... sorry to trouble you, Brother Han." Bai Shuruo lay in the hospital bed with nothing to do, and she felt dizzy whenever she got out of bed to walk, so she lay there watching the TV on the opposite wall. As for what was playing on the TV, she didn't take any of it in; her thoughts were entirely on Han Yangting.

His tall figure was busy in the ward.

He first took a bunch of greens he had bought at some point from the refrigerator, then got some millet and some rice, and used a small stew pot to wash the rice.

Bai Shuruo couldn't help but drool at the thought of vegetable porridge.

It was rare to eat fresh vegetables in Xijiang; every meal was meat, and she was craving greens now.

After he started stewing the porridge, he went to chop the vegetables.

After chopping the greens, he returned to the ward and said to Bai Shuruo on the bed: "I have to wait for the porridge to be cooked before I can add the greens; it will be a little while longer."

"Mm." Bai Shuruo nodded.

He sat down on the chair next to her hospital bed and asked her: "Is Xijiang fun?"

"It's alright."

"Did you run into any trouble over there?"

"No, the people there are all very nice, and the people on our team are also very good. Everyone got along very happily."

Once they reached this point, he stopped asking.

Bai Shuruo had to find a topic: "What about you? I saw you returned to Beishi. How have you been during this time in Beishi?"

"Quite good." He said those three words indifferently.

Bai Shuruo thought to herself that he might not want to talk too much about his family affairs; after all, she and he were only a flash marriage, and his true purpose for marrying was still unclear.

However, he suddenly added: "When you have time, come back to Beishi with me to see my mother."

At the thought of that elegant and noble mother-in-law, Bai Shuruo couldn't help but "cough, cough."

It was dark.

The vegetable porridge was ready. Han Yangting ladled a bowl for her and placed it on the bedside cabinet to cool.

Bai Shuruo got up to go to the restroom, but after walking just two steps, she felt the world spinning. As her body was about to fall backward, he was quick-witted and fast-handed, catching her by the waist.

"Brother Han, I..." She was just about to ask him to help find a walker, but he had already picked her up without a word, walked a few steps into the bathroom, and placed her on the toilet.

"Can you undo your pants yourself?"

"I, I can."

"Then call me when you're done," Han Yangting said.

"O-okay." Bai Shuruo was stunned.

There was one more awkward thing to add to the list.

Such intimate things could only be done by a real married couple, right? Or perhaps a couple that had been married for a long time.

But fortunately, he went out. She sat blankly for a while, then hurriedly relieved herself. After flushing, she slowly held onto the wall to walk out.

Opening the door, she was surprised to see him still guarding outside, his tall figure with his back to her.

Her heart warmed, her nose felt sore, and her eyes turned red.

It had been a long time since she had been taken care of like this.

Hearing the sound of the door opening, he turned around and said again, "I'll carry you out."

"There's no need, I..."

Before she could refuse, he had already scooped her up in his arms.

In his embrace, she tilted her head to look at him, seeing his perfect profile and that smooth jawline.

His embrace was especially solid and broad, a warm harbor.

It was just a pity that the path from the bathroom to the hospital bed was only a few steps; before she could even enjoy it, he had already set her back down on the bed.

He even leaned over to pull the quilt up for her, just like a kind, elderly father.

Seeing her eyes were red, he asked in confusion, "Why are you crying? Are you uncomfortable?"

"It's nothing, I'm just too hungry and want to drink some porridge," she lied.

He pulled the small table over for her, letting her sit on the bed to drink the porridge.

She took two sips, then suddenly remembered he probably hadn't eaten either, so she asked him, "Brother Han, have you eaten?"

"I'll go down to eat in a while."

The hospital provided meals, and family members in the VIP ward could eat in the small dining room.

Bai Shuruo felt relieved.

That night, it was also Han Yangting who stayed in the ward to watch over Bai Shuruo.

Because Bai Shuruo drank porridge, she had to urinate often and needed to go to the bathroom several times during the night; Han Yangting carried her every time.

At first she wasn't used to it, but he scolded her, "We are already husband and wife, why still mind this? Isn't it only right for a husband to take care of his wife?"

His words made her heart race with shock again, but she had no way to refute him, so she could only let him carry her back and forth.
