Chapter 141: If Only You Were a Decent Person

~7 min read 1,394 words

Wen Ling went to the bathroom to take a bath, and with no one else around her, she finally had the chance to properly think over what Zhao Xingtang had just said.

In her words, both explicit and implicit, she actually expressed just one meaning.

Zhao Xingtang not only knows about her rebirth, but also knows why the plot would undergo a reversal.

As for why she came to find her today, Wen Ling narrowed her eyes, rose from the bathtub, rinsed off the foam, wrapped herself in a bathrobe and walked out of the bathroom, looking at Zhou Yinhe sitting by the floor-to-ceiling window playing a game. Wen Ling thought, no matter what Zhao Xingtang's purpose is, if it is to harm them, she will not let Zhao Xingtang succeed.

Noticing her gaze, Zhou Yinhe looked up; Wen Ling walked over slowly, squatted beside him, leaned on his knee, and softly said, "You're still the best."

Three years ago, she proposed a breakup; whether or not it was her true intention, it hurt him deeply.

But he was still willing to be with her.

Just this much—Wen Ling will never leave Zhou Yinhe again in this lifetime.

Zhou Yinhe bent over, pulled her up, let her sit on his lap and hold her, then whispered, "Only now do you realize I'm the best?"

Wen Ling shook her head, buried herself in his embrace and clung tightly; the fresh scent from her bath all transferred onto Zhou Yinhe's body.

"Hungry? I had someone deliver the dishes you love; they should be here soon."

"A little." Wen Ling closed her eyes, leaning against him; before going to the event she had casually eaten some, but after drinking just now she basically threw it all up, leaving her stomach empty and uncomfortable.

Zhou Yinhe knew well that she never eats properly when it's mealtime, only claiming hunger after the meal has passed.

After holding Wen Ling and sitting for a while, Zhou Yinhe softly coaxed, "Baobao, do you want to go downstairs with me, or lie down in the room for a bit and wait until it's ready before heading down?"

Wen Ling now just wants to stick to him, hold him tight and have him hold her as they go downstairs.

Waiting for Zhou Yinhe to bring in the food and set it on the low table in the living room, Wen Ling sat on the carpet to eat, while watching him crouch nearby feeding the two cats.

He treats the two cats extremely well; ever since Zhou Yinhe has been around, Wen Ling basically has nothing to worry about—not just the cats' daily care, but also her food, clothing, housing and transportation, all of which Zhou Yinhe now handles.

"What are you looking at?" Zhou Yinhe originally wanted to check if she was eating properly, but upon turning around he discovered she had been staring at him all along.

Wen Ling shook her head, lowered her gaze and ate seriously.

After washing his hands, Zhou Yinhe walked over and sat cross-legged at the low table like her; his height of nearly 1.9 meters made it awkward for him, and he felt cramped.

Seeing that he seemed uncomfortable sitting that way, Wen Ling asked, "How about we go to a restaurant to eat?"

"No need." Zhou Yinhe picked up a rib with his chopsticks for her and urged, "Eat more meat—look at you eating just a little bit every day, no wonder you can't gain weight."

Wen Ling pursed her lips, let out an "oh," obediently picked up the rib Zhou Yinhe had placed in her bowl, and nibbled at it bit by bit.

"How come you're being so obedient?" Zhou Yinhe found it strange.

"Is being obedient a bad thing?"

Well, how could it be bad? It's certainly better than before, when she was always harsh and disdainful toward him.

After finishing the meal, Zhou Yinhe worried that if the plates were left on the table, Hehe and Huhuh would jump up and mess around, so he took the plates into the kitchen and even closed the kitchen door, fearing the two would get in and cause trouble.

Wen Ling stood aside waiting for him; once he had tidied up, they went upstairs together.

"Should we have Aunt Zhou come this afternoon, or should we have your butler come?"

After all, several people will come tomorrow, all of them are wealthy young masters who never touch manual labor, so they certainly wouldn't barbecue themselves.

Wen Ling actually doesn't really want to call Aunt Zhou over, because Aunt Zhou surely has been in contact with her parents, and she's a bit afraid Aunt Zhou might go and inform them.

Zhou Yinhe understood, "Let my butler come; he's more familiar with this place."

Wen Ling answered okay, returned to the room, then feeling that she had picked up a smell from just eating, she wanted to take another shower; Zhou Yinhe pulled her along into the bathroom.

The bathroom temperature gradually rose; Wen Ling leaned against the smooth tiles, furrowed her brows, and said, "It's so cold."

Zhou Yinhe grabbed a towel, laid it on the washstand, and lifted Wen Ling onto it.

"Still cold?"

Though it seemed considerate, his actions never paused; Wen Ling's cheeks flushed, her watery eyes glared at him, which didn't elicit his pity but instead made him even more excessive.

The bathroom light was bright as day, causing the cold-white skin under it to gleam.

Wen Ling pushed him away with her feet, her voice thick with tears: "You're going too far."

Zhou Yinhe's lips glistened with moisture, his lightly laughing voice a bit hoarse, he asked her: "Where am I being excessive?"

Wen Ling couldn't say it; she didn't have Zhou Yinhe's thick skin, and although he understood, he didn't lessen his force at all.

By the time they got back to the room, Wen Ling was already somewhat disoriented, lying dazedly in the blankets, her eyes misty as she gazed out the window.

Zhou Yinhe embraced her from behind and asked, "Anywhere uncomfortable?"

Wen Ling shook her head, her thoughts returning a bit; she placed her hand on Zhou Yinhe's wrist and, with the little strength left, twisted it hard.

"Hiss, after using me you twist me—you have no conscience."

"You deserve it." Wen Ling said, word by word: "If you were just a decent person, I wouldn't twist you."

Zhou Yinhe let out a muffled laugh, coaxing her: "Go to sleep, Baobao."

Wen Ling released her grip, just closed her eyes, then suddenly remembered something, struggled to turn over and asked him: "You didn't wear it just now, did you?"

"……" Zhou Yinhe was speechless at the question; Wen Ling exhaled, lifted her hand to cradle his face and gave him a vigorous rub.

"Bastard! Damn it!"

"Sorry, sorry, Baobao I forgot."

Wen Ling pushed him away, coldly saying: "Go buy me medicine."

Zhou Yinhe stared blankly, nodded, got up and walked out; fortunately there was a 24-hour pharmacy nearby, otherwise he really wouldn't know how to explain himself to Wen Ling.

Watching Wen Ling take the medicine with water, he knelt on one knee beside the bed, took the cup, and carefully said: "I know I was wrong, don't be angry—I'll definitely not do this again next time."

Wen Ling gave him a sideways glance, lay back under the covers, and when Zhou Yinhe tried to get close she stretched out her arm to block him.

"Get away, stay far from me."

Zhou Yinhe blinked his eyes, feeling wronged; Wen Ling simply turned her back and refused to look at him.

Still feeling wronged! Who's to blame!

Until the next morning when both woke up, Wen Ling still gave Zhou Yinhe no pleasant expression.

While sitting at the restaurant table having breakfast, Zhou Yinhe continually showed attentiveness, pouring milk for Wen Ling and wiping her mouth.

Wen Ling looked at him coldly, Zhou Yinhe's raised hand froze in midair, and he said aggrievedly, "I will definitely pay attention next time, I promise, just forgive me, I really forgot yesterday."

"Is that so?" Wen Ling narrowed her eyes, Zhou Yinhe raised his hand and swore, "I swear, I really did forget, I know you don't want a child right now, how could I possibly do that on purpose?"
