Chapter 162: Ways to Deal with Grandfather

~7 min read 1,320 words

Pfft, Lu Zhaoye chuckled lightly and said, "You're being generous, I don't believe you can't see my feelings for Wen Ling."

Zhou Yinhe lowered his eyes to glance at the still-sleeping Wen Ling, turned and walked out of the room, leaning against the hallway wall and said in a cold voice, "Yes, I know you like Wen Ling, but you grew up with her; in her eyes you're her brother, and I won't do anything to upset her out of jealousy."

"When did you become so magnanimous?"

"I've always been magnanimous."

Lu Zhaoye snorted, Zhou Yinhe felt mocked, his face turned cold, and he hung up before Lu Zhaoye could speak.

"You don't know a good person's heart."

Zhou Yinhe cursed under his breath, set Wen Ling's phone to silent, then returned to the room, held Wen Ling in his arms, but he couldn't sleep for a long time; finally, vexed, he bit his lip and silently cursed himself for being meddlesome.

Even good intentions can be wrong?!

Exactly, it's all Lu Zhaoye's fault!

Zhou Yinhe exhaled, silently shifted closer to Wen Ling's position, held her tightly, and only then closed his eyes.

He agonized for a long time, so he fell asleep much later, and for the first time he woke up after Wen Ling.

He had almost forgotten about it, but picking up his phone he saw that Lu Zhaoye had sent him a message after he hung up last night.

【Thank you, I've already felt your magnanimity; if anything comes up I'll definitely ask you for help.】

Zhou Yinhe's annoyance surged again; he wished he could go back to the day they strolled Sijiucheng together and strangle the version of himself who added Lu Zhaoye on WeChat.

He had to go looking for trouble himself.

He felt too embarrassed to stay in bed, tossed his phone onto the bed, and went to wash up.

When he went downstairs, he noticed the atmosphere below was somewhat tense.

Zhou Yinhe stood at the stairwell, not going further down, leaning against the side wall listening to the sounds below.

Wen Ling summoned the entire Wen household, even the gardener, to the first-floor living room, and had Wen Lao sit beside her.

Wen Ling hadn't originally intended for Qin Lao to listen, but Qin Lao wanted to watch the spectacle, so he sat with Wen Zhuo on the side sofa to watch.

Wen Ling stood up and said softly, "I know you don't dare to manage my grandfather; it was my oversight, after all you're just doing your jobs."

Wen Lao was bewildered; Wen Ling had already turned to look at him and said lightly, "So today I'll have my grandfather guarantee that no matter who you are, watching him won't earn you blame, and on top of that your wages will be doubled."

If they were only getting base pay, they indeed wouldn't risk offending Wen Lao to meddle further, but now they have both his guarantee and double wages, so where would they still hide?

"All right, Miss."

Hearing the unanimous agreement, Wen Ling smiled satisfiedly, continued looking at Wen Lao, and gestured to him.

Wen Lao remained silent for a long time, he turned his head to look at Qin Lao and Wen Zhuo; seeing the two lower their eyes to avoid his gaze, then glance upstairs hoping for rescue from Zhou Yinhe—now the entire Wen household, even the Qin household, only Zhou Yinhe could persuade Wen Ling.

Unfortunately, Zhou Yinhe would not offend Wen Ling again for his sake.

So he had no choice but to stand up, solemnly saying, "Yes, I guarantee I won't blame you for this."

Wen Ling laughed and waved her hand, indicating they could withdraw.

The servants swarmed out; Wen Ling stepped forward, linked arms with Wen Lao, and said with a smiling squint, "Grandfather, after the doctor comes and checks your health we'll go out to play; once my maternal grandfather has had his fun, you can join us in Sijiucheng to nurture your health."

"Playing is fine, but I don't want to go to Sijiucheng."

If he went, he'd have to live under Wen Ling's watch, which would wear him out; he'd rather be guarded by these people, at least they'd manage him and give him some face.

"No way." Wen Ling shook her head, looked up toward the top of the stairs, and shouted, "Come downstairs, don't hide there."

Wen Lao widened his eyes, incredulously watching Zhou Yinhe slowly descend from the stairwell, and demanded, "You were just there?"

Zhou Yinhe lowered his head, touched the tip of his nose, a bit embarrassed, "I didn't dare come out; I'm afraid A-Ling will hit me."

"You %#¥" Wen Lao didn't care about his image anymore, he spat out profanity.

Wen Ling frowned at the words, pinched Wen Lao's arm, and reminded, "What are you doing, why are you still cursing people?"

"This brat actually dares..."

"What do you want him to do? Speak for you?" Wen Ling lightly exposed his little scheme; Wen Lao stared for a moment, then realized his reaction shouldn't have been so big!

Zhou Yinhe pressed his lips, stepped forward, took Wen Ling's hand and squeezed it, indicating she shouldn't do that.

Wen Ling only grew angrier; in fact, since returning she hadn't lost her temper with Wen Lao, because she knew that elderly people sometimes become stubborn, like old children.

So she merely instructed all the Wen Yuan staff to keep an eye on Wen Lao; only now did she realize that Wen Lao himself hadn't realized how much his actions worried these people.

Wen Ling forced herself to regulate her breathing, suppressing the sourness rising at the tip of her nose, and said calmly, "If you don't want to go, that's fine; I'll tell them later not to watch you, we'll leave this afternoon."

She turned to Qin Lao and said softly, "Grandfather, where would you like to play? We'll take Uncle Zhou's private plane; I'll have someone apply for the flight route later."

Qin Lao opened his mouth; Zhou Yinhe saw Wen Ling's face turn pale and lowly wanted to comfort her.

"Ling Ling..."

"Baobao," Wen Ling interrupted him, locking eyes with his gaze and said softly, "Tell Uncle Zhou that we might still need to borrow his plane; once we return to Sijiucheng I will definitely compensate him properly."

Zhou Yinhe paused, then nodded in agreement.

Wen Ling no longer looked at Wen Lao's expression, only telling Qin Lao, "Grandfather, think it over; I'm going upstairs now to pack."

Having said that, she lifted her feet and walked upstairs.

She had been counting down in her heart; when the final number settled, she stood in the middle of the stairs, and from below came Wen Lao's helpless voice.

"I'll go, is that not okay?"

Wen Ling curled her lip, then quickly hid it, turning back to say, "I don't want to force you; if you don't want to go, that's fine."

Wen Lao sighed, already standing, Qin Lao beside him secretly patted his back; Wen Lao lifted a smile and ground out four words from his gums: "Go, I want to go!"

"All right, then I'll go change; after the doctor's check-up we'll head out directly, lunch will be outside."

She went from feeling wronged to disappointed, and now from disappointment instantly to cheerful; the mood shift left even Zhou Yinhe, who knows Wen Ling best, a bit dazed.

Wen Zhuo had been silent for a while; now, after hesitating a moment, he said, "Sister's methods for dealing with grandfather seem to have gotten even stronger..."

Zhou Yinhe remained silent for a long time, gave a muted hum, then promptly went upstairs.

At this moment Wen Ling was humming a cheerful tune while sitting at the dressing table applying makeup; seeing Zhou Yinhe follow up so quickly, she gave a humming laugh.
