Chapter 209: You're Being Over the Top

~7 min read 1,296 words

Why don't you send me a message?

Talking about this, Zhou Yinhe became very unhappy, muttering: "I've been waiting for your message all day, you only cared about Aunt Zhou, and didn't even think of me."

Wen Ling, however, laughed and said: "You haven't had a fulfilling day yourself? You went to see Jiang Jibai, then Ke Chengyu, and even went out with Zhao Ningyan."

"How do you know that?" Zhou Yinhe frowned.

Wen Ling turned her face to look at him, smiling teasingly: "I won't tell you."

He had no idea; Wen Ling and his childhood friends had a group chat, and they reported all of today's activities in it.

Zhou Yinhe pursed his lips.

Wen Ling drove alone to find him; Zhou Yinhe had just had a few drinks, so Wen Ling still drove them home.

Zhou Yinhe sat in the passenger seat, watching Wen Ling drive, feeling quite pleased inside.

Wen Ling glanced at him and asked: "What are you happy about?"

"Nothing."

"Have you eaten dinner?"

"No."

Wen Ling smiled; of course she knew whether he had eaten—Jiang Jibai and the others even told her what Zhou Yinhe had eaten.

He just ate a little, Wen Ling said: "Aunt Zhou made lots of delicious food for us; I've been waiting to eat it with you."

That lighthearted sentence cheered Zhou Yinhe up; he struggled not to show his smugness, and said lightly: "Then why didn't you come find me earlier?"

"Isn't it because you haven't hung out with your friends in a while?"

"You're lying, just pacifying me—you obviously only just remembered me; otherwise you'd have come looking for me long ago." Zhou Yinhe said this, feeling even more wronged: "Otherwise, why wouldn't you send me a message?"

Wen Ling sighed helplessly and said: "I'm really not lying to you; I want you to hang out with them more—we can't just fall in love and do nothing but stay with me, can we?"

"I just want to stay with you, I don't want to play with them." Zhou Yinhe didn't care at all what image he had among his friends; the friendship they'd had since childhood wouldn't fade just because he only wanted to stay with his wife.

Wen Ling knew her words were useless, so she took advantage of the red light to reach up and touch Zhou Yinhe's cheek, smiling: "All right, don't be unhappy—I promise I'll send you more messages from now on."

Zhou Yinhe hummed, turned his body, grabbed Wen Ling's face, and kissed her lips.

He kept kissing her until the green light came on, when a horn from behind urged them on, and Zhou Yinhe finally let go.

"I'm telling you, doing this will get you scolded by netizens as immoral." Wen Ling's lips were a bit red and swollen from his kiss, and she gave him a glare with her eyes.

Zhou Yinhe's eyes rimmed red, he let out a soft hum: "Let them scold, who made them not have a wife to kiss?"

"..." Wen Ling had nothing to say about his occasional rebelliousness, and she started the car in silence.

Arriving at Chen Yue Fu, Zhou Yinhe still thought Aunt Zhou was there, but he didn't expect the entire Building 7 villa to be empty—only two cats guarded the elevator, meowing at them.

Wen Ling saw his expression and knew what he was thinking; she rolled her eyes and said: "Aunt Zhou knows you don't like strangers in the house, so she's already gone back to Lang Po Wan."

Zhou Yinhe let out an "ah", smiled, and hugged Wen Ling; they walked upstairs all sticky and sweet, saying along the way: "Aunt Zhou is really nice."

"Then you're still jealous of Aunt Zhou."

"It's good, but I don't mind feeling like she's stealing you from me."

Wen Ling was speechless; she didn't speak, and she felt like hitting him.

They went upstairs to change clothes, then came down together to have dinner.

Aunt Zhou isn't just good at making noodles; Wen Ling was a picky eater as a child, even picky about chefs, so Aunt Zhou specially got a chef's license just to take good care of Wen Ling.

"Want a drink?" Wen Ling swirled the red wine in her decanter, her eyes curved as she asked.

Zhou Yinhe nodded: "Drink!"

Wen Ling sat cross-legged opposite him, drinking while eating the dishes Zhou Yinhe had passed to her.

"Grandpa said this afternoon that he'll be returning to M Country in a couple of days."

Zhou Yinhe startled, then said: "Not wait until after our engagement is over?"

Wen Ling shook her head: "He's just more familiar with that place; no matter how happy he is here, it's not really his home."

"All right," Zhou Yinhe pursed his lips, thought for a moment, and said: "Then we'll hold one ceremony in M Country and another in Hua Guo when the time comes, so that relatives and friends from both sides can attend—what do you think?"

Wen Ling said: "Do we really need such a big production? It's not even a wedding."

"How could it not be needed!" Zhou Yinhe launched into a long-winded argument: "M Country definitely can't be overlooked—aside from the Wen Family's old friends, there are also the friends you've grown up with; we have to let them know you already have a fiancé."

"As for Hua Guo, there's no need to even mention it—I've talked with my parents, and just the possible guests from the Zhou Family side would fill over a hundred tables, not to mention more distant relations."

"..." Wen Ling didn't know what to say.

She just wanted something casual, not so extravagant—she hadn't expected that Zhou Yinhe had already listed all the invitees with his uncles and aunts.

She really didn't know what to say; saying too much would make her seem tactless, after all, although the Zhou Family is high in power and status, they've always been low-key—this grand production is actually also to let them know how much the Zhou Family cares about her as their future daughter-in-law.

The next day, Wen Ling suggested going to Feng Qi Yuan, but Zhou Yinhe was still half-asleep, so she dragged him up.

"Why go so early? My parents might not even be awake yet."

Wen Ling frowned: "Who visits elders at noon? Get up, or I'll get angry if you don't."

Zhou Yinhe sat up irritably, dragging his weary body to the bathroom to wash up; seeing he was still not awake, Wen Ling simply splashed cold water on his face, heard him hiss, and then asked smilingly: "Awake now?"

"You're being over the top."

"Good that you know—hurry up and sober up, or else don't yell when I hit you."

"You're even more over the top."

Wen Ling gave a perfunctory "mm-hmm" twice, turned and walked out of the bathroom, sat at the vanity to do her makeup; Zhou Yinhe finished washing up, yawned, and sat on the sofa waiting for her, even thinking of catching another nap.

"You're not kidney-deficient, are you? It wasn't you who was tossed around last night—how come you look more tired than I do?"

Zhou Yinhe slightly opened his eyes to look at her, resigned: "You just need to lie down; everything else is done by me, so of course I'm tired."

Wen Ling smiled and spat out a single word: "Get lost——"

Zhou Yinhe let out a muffled laugh, then heard Wen Ling continue: "Fine, since you're so tired, just don't do it anymore—I don't absolutely need it anyway; otherwise you'll end up exhausted and blame me."

Hearing that, Zhou Yinhe perked up, hurriedly got up and moved to Wen Ling's side, crouching beside her with a pitiful look.
