Chapter 208: Are we your spare tire?
"The Fifth Young Master is very thoughtful." Zhou Aunt chuckled.
Wen Ling turned her face away and muttered, "I know."
Not having seen each other for a long time, Wen Ling stuck to Zhou Aunt's side all day, accompanying her to visit Elder Wen at the Qin family, and then going shopping with Zhou Aunt, making Zhou Yinhe seem somewhat redundant.
After being called too clingy and redundant by Wen Ling for the third time, he grew angry and left Chen Yue Fu, stepping on the gas toward Jiang Group.
Jiang Jibai had just walked out of the meeting room when Chairman Jiang saw Zhou Yinhe and smiled, teasing, "I heard from Jiang Jibai that you've been spending every day with your fiancée; why did you dare to go out today?"
Zhou Yinhe chuckled and casually made an excuse: "She's busy today."
Jiang Jibai curled his lips, suppressing his laughter; Chairman Jiang knew the younger generation had something to discuss, so he left with the other executives.
Zhou Yinhe turned around, entered Jiang Jibai's office before the host himself, flung himself onto the sofa, and said boredly, "I'm bored to death."
Jiang Jibai stood beside him, kicked his foot, and asked amusedly, "Where's your wife?"
"She went out to play with the aunt who looks after her, and didn't bring me." Zhou Yinhe scratched his head and pouted irritably.
"You can't let her be with you all the time; she needs her own life." Jiang Jibai turned, walked to his desk, sat down, and while handling emails asked, "How long has it been since you went to your company?"
Zhou Yinhe didn't answer, picked up his phone to see if Wen Ling had sent a message, saw the empty notification, and pursed his lips glumly.
Jiang Jibai glanced at him, snorted with laughter, looked away, and stopped paying attention to him.
After an unknown amount of time, the quiet atmosphere was broken by the man lying on the sofa.
Zhou Yinhe sat up straight and solemnly declared, "I'm not going home tonight!!"
Jiang Jibai raised his hand to give a half-hearted clap, drawing out his tone in a sarcastic, backhanded compliment: "Wow, so impressive."
Zhou Yinhe stood up, went to Jiang Jibai's side, pulled him up, and as they walked out said, "Let's go out and play—go to a bar, to West Mountain, South Mountain, anywhere."
"Big brother, what time is it now?" Jiang Jibai, being pulled by him, didn't resist and only asked helplessly.
Zhou Yinhe frowned: "Where did we used to go play during the day before?"
Jiang Jibai was speechless: "When did we ever go out to play during the day before? We're each busy with our own things; at most we meet up for lunch."
They're not those idle rich heirs; before taking over the family conglomerate, each of them worked under their own fathers' watchful eyes—how could they dare to run off midway to play?
Zhou Yinhe asked incredulously: "Really? Are you that diligent?"
Jiang Jibai gritted his teeth, shook off his hand, turned and went back to the office, adding as he went: "Get lost; just seeing you annoys me."
Outside the office was the secretary's office; hearing their conversation, everyone tried not to laugh. After Zhou Yinhe followed Jiang Jibai's steps back into the office and the door closed, the entire secretary department burst out laughing.
They never expected that the once aloof and arrogant Fifth Young Master Zhou would be like this after falling in love.
Zhou Yinhe had no choice; after waiting half a day for Jiang Jibai to ignore him, he had no option but to go find Ke Chengyu.
Ke Chengyu, meanwhile, was leisurely leaning back in his boss's chair in the office, feet propped on the desk, playing a game.
Seeing Zhou Yinhe arrive, he didn't even lift his head, lazily saying, "What's up? You came to us because your wife isn't paying attention to you?"
"What do you mean she's not paying attention to me? I normally can't even hang out with you guys?"
Ke Chengyu let out a "ha" and asked incredulously, "Big brother, you never come when we usually call you, but now that Wen Ling isn't paying attention to you, you come to us—are we your spare tire?"
Zhou Yinhe was choked by his words, realizing he was in the wrong, and left gritting his teeth.
He simply went to look for his future brother-in-law Zhao Ningyan, thinking that as his younger brother-in-law, Zhao Ningyan surely wouldn't still say things to prick him.
Zhao Ningyan worked in the Sijiucheng municipal government; Zhou Yinhe entered the hall, where everyone recognized him and didn't stop him, smoothly making his way to Zhao Ningyan's office.
Knowing Zhao Ningyan was meeting guests in the conference room, he simply went into Zhao Ningyan's office, lay on the long sofa, and stared at his phone with a look of deep resentment.
Zhao Ningyan entered and saw him like that; as his future brother-in-law, he didn't know what else to say, only smiling and asking, "What's going on?"
Zhou Yinhe shook his head, flung his phone hard to one side, placed his arm over his forehead to block his eyes, and sighed, "Bored, I just want to hang out with you guys."
"I still have work later; I need to go down for visits. If you don't want to, you can just stay here and play." Zhao Ningyan smiled helplessly.
Zhou Yinhe pushed himself up and said, "I'll go with you."
Zhao Ningyan acknowledged, picked up documents from his desk, and brought Zhou Yinhe along as they headed downstairs.
Colleagues were already waiting in the hall; seeing him arrive, with the familiar Fifth Young Master of the Zhou family trailing behind him, those more acquainted with Zhao Ningyan stepped forward and asked, "How come your brother-in-law is also here?"
"He's going with us; just leave him alone."
Zhou Yinhe had one hand in his pocket, showing little reaction, just constantly glancing at his phone screen.
Zhao Ningyan had long learned from Jiang Jibai why Zhou Yinhe had come to find them; seeing his actions now, he gave a light chuckle and said nothing.
After spending an afternoon out with Zhao Ningyan, they had dinner together in the evening and then went to Nys.
Jiang Jibai and a few others gathered to drink, while Zhou Yinhe leaned alone on a single sofa, his whole person dazed.
Qi Zhan walked over to his side and said, "We can't just sit here—why don't we take the initiative and call Wen Ling?"
Zhou Yinhe pursed his lips: "Not calling."
"Why is it always him taking the initiative? He won't—this time he has to toughen up."
"... You've spoiled him." Qi Zhan rolled his eyes and turned back.
Zhou Yinhe propped his forehead, his face growing darker, finally unable to hold back; he suddenly rose, phone in hand preparing to call Wen Ling as he walked out.
Before the call could even be dialed, the door swung open and Wen Ling stood before him, smiling with narrowed eyes.
Zhou Yinhe froze in place, blankly staring at the woman before him.
"What are you going to do?" Wen Ling stepped forward, raised her arms to embrace his neck, and cooed, "Are you coming to find me?"
Zhou Yinhe blinked, then silently hummed an affirmative.
"I knew it, so I came to find you." Wen Ling kissed his cheek, turned her body to wave at the others, and laughed, "I'm taking him away."
"Hurry up and take him." Jiang Jibai rolled his eyes, waved a hand, and said, "Even here you won't play with us, still putting on a face for us to see."
Wen Ling raised her hand to scratch Zhou Yinhe's chin and softly asked, "Really?"
Zhou Yinhe didn't speak, only holding tighter onto Wen Ling's arm.
Together they walked toward the bar's exit, with Wen Ling softly coaxing Zhou Yinhe as they went.
"Still not happy?"
