Chapter 63: Don't Ignore Him

~7 min read 1,344 words

Before bed, Zhou Yinhe never saw Wen Ling's trace; the master bedroom was locked from inside, and Wen Ling's reason was: "Seeing this photo makes me uncomfortable; seeing you reminds me of that photo, so I don't want to see you tonight."

Imagining Zhou Yinhe's frustrated yet helpless expression, Wen Ling leaned against the door, pursed her lips and smirked.

The phone that Wen Ling had tossed onto the bed rang a few times; it was a video call from Chu Yao.

Wen Ling answered, put the phone on the dressing table, and while doing her nighttime skincare asked, "What's up?"

Chu Yao asked concernedly: "Are you okay? Did that Fifth Young Master of the Zhou family bully you?"

Wen Ling heard this, chuckled lightly, leaned toward the phone, saw Chu Yao looking uneasy, and smiled: "If he bullied me, could you even stand up for me?"

Chu Yao actually thought about it seriously; her troubled little expression made Wen Ling laugh outright, and she soothed: "Don't worry, he didn't bully me."

Chu Yao seriously sized her up through the screen; seeing that Wen Ling showed no reluctance, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Mainly because she can't do anything about Zhou Yinhe; the Zhou family currently isn't comparable to the Chu family.

She suddenly remembered why she had sought out Wen Ling, and discussed: "Ah Ling, are you free tomorrow afternoon? I want to introduce you to a friend."

Wen Ling raised an eyebrow and asked: "Why?"

"Your friends aren't around, and there aren't many people you know in Sijiucheng, so I just wanted to introduce you to someone." Chu Yao hehe-laughed, her eyes crinkling cutely.

Although Wen Ling felt indifferent about having friends, she didn't reject Chu Yao's kindness and readily agreed.

Chu Yao excitedly said: "Then I'll send you the location—you definitely have to come!"

Wen Ling replied okay, Chu Yao hung up the video call and quickly sent the location; Wen Ling took a moment to pick up her phone and glance at it.

It turned out to be that quiet bar; Wen Ling had thought Chu Yao would pick a livelier place, after all, given Chu Yao's personality, a quiet bar didn't seem to suit her.

Hehe lay sprawled on her belly on the bed, exposing his soft little belly; Wen Ling turned off the light, leaving only the bedside lamp on, stepped forward, gave him a rub, pulled back the covers, and got in.

Hehe naturally curled up beside Wen Ling, letting her pet him.

Wen Ling narrowed her eyes at the chandelier that still flickered with a dark reflection in the darkness, then suddenly said: "Hehe, do you really like Zhou Yinhe that much?"

Hehe didn't understand, but knew Wen Ling was calling him, so he lazily meowed and lightly flicked his tail twice.

"Didn't we agree? When we see him we have to really scratch him." Wen Ling sat up, leaned against the headboard, and scratched Hehe's chin with her fingertips; Hehe was only concerned with his comfortable purring, paying no attention to Wen Ling's question.

Wen Ling sighed, lay back down, and softly said: "Next time you're not allowed to get that close to him, heard me?"

Hehe changed position, licked his fur a few times, and was about to sleep.

As he was drifting off to sleep, half-asleep, he heard Wen Ling say: "Or maybe get close to him a little—don't ignore him."

"……" Hehe loved taking care of his poop-scooping mom, but he was also a bit impatient now; his tail whipped the blanket, making a slap-slap sound, and Wen Ling felt that if Hehe could talk, he'd surely retort her a few times.

Wen Ling lay there half the day without sleeping, played with her phone straight into the early morning, and when she woke up it was already approaching noon.

She looked at her haggard self in the mirror, sighed, and last night's skincare had been for nothing.

She applied light makeup, picked a pale blue dress, and when she was about to go downstairs she saw Hehe guarding the elevator waiting for her; she rolled her eyes and took the stairs instead.

Hehe could only waddle after her.

Unexpectedly, Zhou Yinhe still hadn't gone to work yet; Wen Ling furrowed her brows slightly and wondered: "Why aren't you going to the company now?"

Zhou Yinhe lounged lazily on the sofa playing with his phone; seeing her come down, he first looked delighted, but hearing her words he became puzzled.

"I'm the boss, not a worker—why should I stick to a set schedule for work? And if I went to the office every day with all those employees, what would be the point of paying them?"

"……" Wen Ling gave a half-smile, tugged at the corner of her mouth, and asked: "What wage do you give your company's lowest-level staff?"

Zhou Yinhe thought for a moment and gave a number.

Wen Ling said "oh," and indeed, as a boss he could indeed have that thought.

She stopped paying attention to him, went straight to the entryway to change shoes, and Zhou Yinhe, without caring whether his game had ended, locked the screen and followed her.

"Where are you going?"

Wen Ling didn't hide it from him: "Going out to eat, then to meet Chu Yao."

"Can't you not go?" Zhou Yinhe pressed his lips together; he didn't like the Chu siblings, and at Chu Yao's birthday banquet last time, Chu Lin had clearly shown interest in Wen Ling—what if Chu Yao praised her brother in front of Wen Ling while putting him down, and Wen Ling took it to heart?

Wen Ling changed her shoes, stood up, and washed her hands at the nearby sink.

Usually barefoot she was more than a head shorter than Zhou Yinhe, but now wearing heels, although not that tall, it had narrowed the gap somewhat.

Wen Ling slowly walked a few steps toward Zhou Yinhe, raised her slender, fair arm, hooked one hand around his neck, and with the other, like scratching Hehe's chin, she scratched his somewhat sharp jawline.

She lowered her voice and asked softly: "What's up? So petty—do you have to eat women's jealousy too?"

Zhou Yinhe didn't mind her saying that; he earnestly hummed, reached out to embrace her slender waist, lowered his head, and in a coquettish manner pressed his lips to Wen Ling's fragile neck, kissing her.

Three years ago he already had a strong possessive desire toward Wen Ling—so strong that wherever she went he demanded she send him videos and photos to prove no other men were around.

Three years later, after being hurt by Wen Ling, his possessiveness only grew, veering toward obsessive pathology, and he became extremely sensitive to anyone around Wen Ling.

Wen Ling felt a slight itch from his red hair, but didn't push him away; she raised her hand, fingers sinking into his strands, and curiously said: "Your hair quality is really good—this kind of tossing around doesn't hurt it."

Zhou Yinhe didn't respond to that, only stating his request: "Can I go with you?"

If he went, Chu Yao would surely not dare speak ill of him to his face.

Wen Ling shook her head, lightly patted the back of his head like patting a puppy, and softly said: "Nope."

Zhou Yinhe lifted his head, just about to speak to continue his plea, when he heard Wen Ling continue: "But you can come with me to have lunch, then take me to the place where I agreed to meet Chu Yao."

"Want to go?" Wen Ling tilted her head, looking at him with a smiling, squinty gaze.

"I'll go, I'll go." Zhou Yinhe hurriedly nodded, sat on the shoe-changing stool to put on his shoes; after putting them on and washing his hands he reached to hug Wen Ling, but she coldly pushed him away.

"Let's go."

Zhou Yinhe pressed his lips together, feeling a bit disappointed from not being able to hug Wen Ling, but still obediently hummed in agreement.
