Chapter 92: I Can't Stand Thinking All Day

~7 min read 1,312 words

Uncle Keluosi has quit his job, and it's not unreasonable for Lu Zhaoye to stay in Hua Guo. Wen Ling propped her head up, idly poking at her breakfast with a fork in one hand.

Wen Lao gave a cold snort: "As a father, no matter how you treat your son, the son should endure it well; rather than, just because the father has been a little unpleasant to him, the son should go against him."

Wen Ling lifted her gaze to the grandfather who had doted on her since childhood; her grandfather always had a stern face toward others, even her father often suffered his cold expression when at home, let alone others, but in Wen Ling's heart it had nothing to do with her; as long as her grandfather was kind to her, that was enough.

But Wen Lao's words made her feel somewhat uncomfortable.

"Grandfather, if you say that regardless of whether father does right or wrong, a child should unconditionally endure it, then you say, my parents have been away all year, dumping me in Wen Garden—should I also bear their abandonment without holding a grudge?"

She pursed her lips, lightly exhaled, and as Wen Lao stared in surprise, she rose to her feet and said softly: "I'll go back to my room to catch up on sleep, Grandfather, Zhuo, you all take your time."

She turned and left, and though Wen Lao called after her several times, she pretended not to hear.

"Oh no, this mouth of mine!" Wen Lao regrettably slapped the table.

As a junior, Wen Zhuo shouldn't have spoken up, but he couldn't help explaining for his sister: "Grandfather, my sister still feels wronged about being abandoned by our parents, though it hasn't shown over the years; but whenever someone mentions our parents, she becomes unhappy."

"How could I not know? It's not like I just blurted it out, right? You say she just came back and I already upset her—will she blame me?" Wen Lao sighed, watching his precious granddaughter's retreating back as she left the garden, and rubbed his forehead.

The steward stepped forward and said softly: "Old sir, Miss won't blame you; it's just that mentioning sir and madam makes her a little unhappy, so please don't worry."

"It's all because of her heartless parents. Hand over my phone—I'll call them right now and give them a piece of my mind."

Wen Ling returned to her room alone, pulled the curtains shut tight, and the room was plunged into darkness.

After sitting on the bed for a while, she picked up the phone she hadn't brought to the garden and saw that Zhou Yinhe had called half an hour earlier.

She curled her lips, twitched her finger, and called Zhou Yinhe back.

As soon as the call connected, noisy sounds came from the other end—deafening music and people talking.

Wen Ling furrowed her brow slightly and asked, "What time is it? Why are you still out?"

Zhou Yinhe hurried to a vacant private room down the hall; as he closed the door, the clamor was shut out.

At this moment he thanked Jiang Jibai for emphasizing soundproofing in each private room during the renovation.

He didn't answer Wen Ling's question, sat on the single sofa, and asked softly: "Why didn't you pick up my call just now? Did you just wake up?"

Wen Ling pulled back the covers, got into bed, lay down, and sighed: "No, I was just having breakfast with my grandfather and younger brother, and I left my phone in the room."

Zhou Yinhe pursed his lips, a little unhappy, but knowing it wasn't important, he went ahead and asked the question he most wanted to ask and considered most important.

"When are you coming back?"

Wen Ling laughed upon hearing that and said: "What for? I've only been back for a couple of days at most; I plan to stay ten days or half a month."

Zhou Yinhe fell silent for a moment, then said: "I'm booking a ticket now; tomorrow I'll go to M Country to find you."

Wen Ling blinked slightly: "What are you coming for?"

"To find you." Zhou Yinhe said, putting his phone on speaker, then lowered his head to message his assistant to book a ticket.

"Hold on," Wen Ling said amusedly: "It's just over ten days—is it really necessary?"

Zhou Yinhe sank into a solemn expression and said seriously: "It's very necessary; I can't even stand a single day."

Wen Ling's warm, soft laugh came through the phone; Zhou Yinhe's finger paused as he typed, his heart raced, and a flush rose in his eyes.

After Wen Ling finished laughing, she softly said: "Then come on; when you have the flight number, send it to me and I'll pick you up."

Zhou Yinhe rubbed his nose, answered with an assent, then heard Wen Ling continue: "Didn't I tell you to sleep early and drink less? Are you at Nys?"

"Jiang Jibai's birthday is just today; I've only had two drinks, not more, and it'll be over soon." Zhou Yinhe explained: "Once it's over, I'll head back."

Wen Ling said: "All right, then let me know when you get home; I need to catch up on sleep."

"Okay."

After Wen Ling hung up, the assistant's call came through, saying the only flight to M Country was tomorrow night, and asked if that was okay.

Zhou Yinhe frowned, checked himself, and found indeed there was only a flight after ten p. m.; he considered taking a private jet but thought it too troublesome.

He was a bit irritable, but still had the assistant book it.

He returned to the private room, where a few people were still playing cards and drinking; Zhou Yinhe went up to Jiang Jibai, leaned close to his ear, and said: "I'm heading back to Feng Qi Yuan for a bit; I'm leaving first."

Jiang Jibai glanced at him, nodded, and didn't try to keep him.

After all, he was able to come, and had even booked a watch in advance as a birthday gift, which already moved Jiang Jibai greatly.

"This younger brother, hasn't been loved in vain." Jiang Jibai drained his cup, watching Zhou Yinhe already walk out of the private room.

Zhou Yinhe left Nys; the driver was waiting in the parking lot, and upon receiving his call, hurried over.

"To Feng Qi Yuan."

The driver nodded, pressed the accelerator to the floor, and the car sped smoothly and quickly; they reached Feng Qi Yuan in just about half an hour.

Zhou Yinhe wandered into Feng Qi Yuan lazily; his father Zhou Shuanglin was still sitting in the living room watching TV, a glass of red wine in hand.

Seeing him, Zhou Shuanglin was somewhat surprised, frowned, and asked: "How come you're back?"

"Can't I come back to my own home?" Zhou Yinhe said calmly: "Where's Mom?"

Zhou Shuanglin knew all too well what kind of temper this little son of his had; if it were his other two sons, they'd surely be dragged into the study for a stern lesson on respecting elders.

Moreover, this son had followed his late father around since childhood, copying his temperament and even surpassing it; he really wouldn't listen, so Zhou Shuanglin simply gave up trying to control him.

"What time is it now? You've long been asleep."

Zhou Yinhe nodded, went back to his room to shower and change; seeing his father still sitting in the living room, he went downstairs to keep him company and poured himself a glass of red wine.

"Why aren't you watching in the third-floor lounge?"

He didn't quite understand his father's behavior, given that right outside his parents' bedroom there is a separate lounge.

"Mom complains I'm noisy." Zhou Shuanglin rested his forehead on his hand, openly admitting his wife's disdain for him.
