Chapter 124: Moving Out to Live
"It's nothing particularly heavy, just some miscellaneous items like camera equipment and tripods," Xu Heng said, then changed the subject to ask him, "Did that group from last time ask you to pay any more fees?"
Fraud rings never give up just because they've swindled one sum of money; when they run into a college student as gullible as Cheng Huaiyu, they usually scam them repeatedly, and by the time the victim realizes what's happening, they are typically left with neither money nor assets.
Yet Cheng Huaiyu shook his head: "No, I haven't even finished the first batch of courses I bought, and the teacher hasn't asked us to spend money on materials or anything like that."
Hearing this, Xu Heng frowned: "Then be careful yourself, and remember to just call the police if anything happens."
"Oh, come on, I'm a top student from a 985 university, do you think I don't even know that much common sense?" Cheng Huaiyu suddenly chuckled, "But Old Xu, let me tell you, there are several pretty little girls in that class, they look quite young and innocent..."
"You just said you were a top student from a 985 university; if a top student from a 985 university acts like a lecherous jerk like you, your reputation will be completely ruined," Xu Heng said speechlessly.
But he quickly thought of something and warned: "Don't get too close to those women; they might be shills or part of a setup."
"I know, I know. I'm only focused on pursuing Yueyue now; I won't be messing around with other women anymore."
Cheng Huaiyu sounded sincere enough, though it was hard to say how much of it he could actually follow through on.
If he did what he said, the scammers wouldn't be able to swindle much money from him, but if he couldn't control his impulses, it was entirely possible he would end up in a mountain of debt.
Xu Heng didn't think too much about it, nodded, put on his clothes, and left the dormitory.
On Friday afternoon, Jiang Mengyuan had two classes at four o'clock that lasted until five-thirty.
Xu Heng arrived outside her classroom at five-twenty.
After waiting for about ten minutes, the bell rang, and students emerged from the classroom, some clutching books and others carrying backpacks.
Most university teachers didn't have the habit of running over time; they always finished right on schedule.
Jiang Mengyuan and her roommates came out in a neat line, several of the girls still discussing what to eat for dinner, what Korean dramas to watch when they got back, or complaining about which teacher had assigned homework this week—the usual daily topics.
After seeing Xu Heng leaning against the doorway with his head down playing on his phone, Chang Lingling poked Jiang Mengyuan with her finger: "Yuanyuan, your boyfriend is here."
"Huh?" Jiang Mengyuan only noticed Xu Heng after a delayed reaction and smiled shyly at her roommates, "Then I'll be going first."
"Bye-bye, have fun tonight, stay safe, and don't go making any 'human lives'!"
Jiang Mengyuan's face turned bright red from her roommates' teasing, and she shrank to Xu Heng's side without saying a word.
Xu Heng also greeted her three roommates before leading Jiang Mengyuan away.
He was now somewhat well-known at the university, and many students passing by after class recognized him.
Then they took a second look—holy crap, why is there a girl next to Xu Heng?
"Who is that girl? Is she Xu Heng's girlfriend?"
"No duh, anyone with eyes can see that."
The boys were curious about what kind of girl Xu Heng had found; after all, Xu Heng was a semi-public figure, and gossip-loving onlookers were always interested in the private lives of public figures.
The girls, meanwhile, lamented their shattered dreams that their idol actually had a girlfriend.
"I don't even think she's that pretty; her chest is flat, and she's wearing glasses, looking like a fifteen or sixteen-year-old minor," some girls said sourly.
"Yeah, I feel like I'm more suited to be standing next to Xu Heng."
The bolder girls would take this opportunity to crowd around and ask Xu Heng for his contact information, trying to show off in front of Jiang Mengyuan.
Unfortunately, Xu Heng protected Jiang Mengyuan like she was his own daughter; there was no way he would let these mediocre-looking girls cause trouble, so he heartlessly rejected everyone who asked for his contact info.
Jiang Mengyuan, on the other hand, felt her cheeks burning from the strange looks of those around her.
The most awkward part of being Xu Heng's girlfriend was having to endure the baptism of other people's gazes, which was a huge test for the socially anxious Jiang Mengyuan.
Fortunately, those gazes lessened quite a bit after they left the teaching building.
"How about we move out and live together?" Xu Heng proposed to her.
He had thought about moving out a few days ago, but he had considered it for a long time before mentioning it to Jiang Mengyuan.
Being gossiped about all day at school really affected their daily lives, and moving out would allow him to take his little girlfriend with him, giving them more time to spend together.
"Rent an apartment?"
"Buy an apartment."
"Wouldn't that be too expensive?" Jiang Mengyuan asked hesitantly.
"If you're worried about spending too much, we can just buy a small duplex apartment—the kind with two floors and about fifty square meters. It wouldn't cost much even with the renovation and furniture included. Don't you want to have your own independent space where you can put whatever you like?"
Xu Heng felt like laughing when he said this.
Jiang Mengyuan's father was in real estate, yet she, the only daughter, was still worried about the cost of buying a house.
If she took the initiative to tell her father she wanted to live off-campus, Old Jiang would probably send over several large villas in downtown Jinling in a heartbeat.
Of course, given Jiang Mengyuan's personality, she would certainly never make such a request to her father.
Xu Heng wasn't the type to have a weak stomach, so he wanted to pay for it himself and buy a small apartment for him and Jiang Mengyuan—two bedrooms, one living room, two floors, with the bedroom upstairs and the kitchen and living room downstairs. If they wanted to stay at school on weekdays, they could, and if they weren't comfortable at school, they could come stay outside.
Hearing Xu Heng describe it like this, Jiang Mengyuan was also somewhat tempted.
Honestly, the environment of a university dormitory wasn't suitable for her.
Although Jin Da was a university with a relatively excellent dormitory environment, it still had the drawbacks of small private space and limited range of activity.
Jiang Mengyuan wasn't the type of person who loved interacting with others; while her roommates could go next door to chat or play cards every day, she could only squat on a small stool and watch anime.
As for the figures and models she liked, there was even less room to put them.
The cabinets were stuffed with clothes, and the tables and bookshelves were covered in books; sometimes she had to tighten the lid on her water cup when using the computer, terrified of spilling water on it.
That situation certainly wouldn't exist if they moved out.
However, there was one problem: moving out meant cohabiting with Xu Heng.
A lone man and woman living under the same roof—who knew if they would end up "making a human life" just like Chang Lingling said.
But thinking about how they had been dating for nearly a month and Xu Heng had always pampered her, she figured if she refused, Xu Heng probably wouldn't force her.
So, after thinking for two seconds, Jiang Mengyuan nodded obediently: "I'll listen to you."
"Then we'll go look at houses tomorrow and find one you like."
"Mm."
As the two chatted, a commotion suddenly broke out not far ahead.
Some students curiously gathered there to watch, and from time to time, a man's angry cursing could be heard.
Xu Heng originally did not want to get involved in these matters and was preparing to leave from the side while holding Jiang Mengyuan's hand, but he inadvertently caught a glimpse of a dark and thin boy being pulled around in the crowd.
Isn't that Zhao Gaoyang?
