Chapter 811: Seizing Power, Transmitting the Dao

~8 min read 1,529 words

"Du Peng, I heard you went fifty kilometers outside the city and found two crates of medicine? I inspected the items—excellent, all high-value antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, lifesavers in a pinch."

"So, you want to go back to the city again?"

At this moment, a muscular man in a tank top sat on a chair, coldly sizing up Du Peng.

Around them, over twenty guards armed with real firearms stood at the ready, watching them closely.

"But your changes are significant—and so are your teammates," Zhang Ying didn't know why, but he sensed something unusual about these few individuals.

It felt like facing off against several bio-monsters.

Was it an illusion?

Yet seeing only four of them, all unarmed, Zhang Ying silently shook his head and smiled—apparently he'd overthought it.

When had the leader of this shelter become so sensitive and paranoid?

Du Peng was merely one of the shelter's ordinary search teams—just one vehicle, five or six men, no real threat at all.

"About the medicine, there's something important I need to discuss with you, Leader," Du Peng said seriously: "On this trip to the city, I met a man named Li Yi. He isn't a survivor, nor even of this world—but he possesses the power to transform this world. I've decided to follow him."

"Du Peng, have you been on drugs?" Zhang Ying suddenly laughed.

Du Peng said: "Leader, I haven't taken any drugs. I'm telling the truth. You and I both know this shelter's way of survival is doomed. As resources and population dwindle, more and more die. One day, every last one of us will be killed by those bio-monsters."

"Li Yi's arrival is a ray of light in this world. And fortunately, this divine being has taken pity on us, shown us kindness, and shown us the way forward."

"So, Zhang Ying, join us. We need many more people to change all of this."

He extended a sincere invitation.

Zhang Ying's smile faded, then darkened: "Du Peng, I thought you came to negotiate. Turns out you came to tell fairy tales. Do you take me for a three-year-old?"

"I'm not lying, Zhang Ying. This terrible world needs change—and it must begin right here, in our shelter." Du Peng roared, slamming a fist onto the table before him.

The steel-plated table instantly caved inward, leaving a deep fist-shaped dent.

This power?

Zhang Ying's pupils shrank, his heart clenched—this was steel! When had Du Peng gained such inhuman strength?

The other guards were equally stunned.

This strength surpassed even the bio-monsters.

Could what he just said be true?

Yet soon Zhang Ying felt a surge of dread—if Du Peng and his companions all possessed such power, wasn't his position as leader now in grave danger?

The shelter couldn't tolerate such instability.

"Kill them. Shoot them. Kill all of them," Zhang Ying snarled, face twisted: "When did you, these monsters in human skin, slip in here?"

The order stunned the guards—they were still reeling from the unbelievable display of power.

"Kill them! Didn't you hear me?" Zhang Ying roared again.

He sensed changes unfolding within the shelter—unpredictable factors must be erased.

Changing the world? A future?

To him, they meant nothing.

He had no grand ideals—he only wanted to live here, in this shelter, until he died.

"So negotiations failed? On the path forward, some always fall behind. Since you can't lead the survivors to a better future, let me become the new leader."

"Move."

Du Peng roared and charged toward Zhang Ying like a rampaging beast.

"I knew it—you wanted to seize power."

Zhang Ying had already prepared—he pulled a large-caliber revolver from nowhere and fired immediately.

Simultaneously, the other guards snapped open their rifle bolts, readying to fire.

But at the same moment—

Liu Gao, Xu Li, and the veteran beside them moved instantly, their forms blurring into afterimages.

Gunfire and screams echoed through Zone Five.

Zhang Ying, the leader, took a punch and flew backward, bones shattered, yet he still grinned—because he'd hit Du Peng.

At this range, with his large-caliber revolver, no one could survive.

Yet Du Peng, hit by three bullets, marched forward as if untouched.

His nanofiber suit writhed; three deformed bullets fell to the ground. Though the Immortal Dao warship's nanofiber offered no defense against Li Yi, to ordinary humans it easily blocked bullets.

"Du Peng, you really are a monster," Zhang Ying's grin froze.

"This is the power of technology and the transcendent—you won't understand, Zhang Ying. Make way for humanity's future." Du Peng charged again, fist aimed at Zhang Ying's skull.

Zhang Ying gritted his teeth, raised his gun again—this time aiming for Du Peng's head. Even a monster like him would die if struck in the brain.

But Du Peng's monstrous vision caught the movement—he dodged the instant the trigger was pulled.

Bang!

The bullet missed.

"You can dodge bullets?" Zhang Ying let out a bitter laugh.

He now regretted it—regretted not accepting Du Peng's proposal earlier.

With such transcendent power, perhaps they could truly fight the bio-monsters.

But life offers no second chances. Du Peng's fist struck—crushing Zhang Ying's skull with overwhelming force.

Looking at Zhang Ying's fallen body, Du Peng's face was expressionless, his eyes only resolute.

For the shelter, Zhang Ying wasn't a good leader, but he wasn't terrible either—he simply refused to move forward, so he was eliminated.

And now—

The twenty-odd guards had been dealt with: some dead, some disarmed and crippled, others surrendered outright.

"From now on, I, Du Peng, am the new leader of this shelter. You have no time left—only two hours," Du Peng announced.

Killing the leader doesn't mean you've seized power.

You must take control of every corner of the shelter—and inform every survivor of the change.

Only then can you open the shelter's gates to meet Li Yi again.

Two hours is tight.

It will test the abilities of these few.

Meanwhile—

Li Yi, standing high above the shelter, gazed down at the land as his AI, Hong Ji, calculated incessantly.

"The new survival base construction plan is complete, Master. Please review."

Soon—

Hong Ji projected a 3D model before Li Yi inside the Immortal Dao warship.

Li Yi glanced once and memorized the plan instantly.

But he didn't act immediately—he waited for Du Peng's success.

As time passed—

Soon—

After roughly two and a half hours, the shelter's four sealed gates slowly opened.

Du Peng, the veteran, Zhang Jieshan, Liu Gao, Xu Li, Huang Qiu, and others led all the shelter's survivors outside.

It was night.

Leaving the shelter at night was extremely dangerous—many bio-monsters roamed the land; encountering one meant certain death.

Yet still, they trusted Li Yi—and left their fortress behind.

"Li Yi, we succeeded!" Du Peng shouted, gazing at the starry sky.

He saw the figure high above.

Though this world was terrible, at least one thing was beautiful: without industrial pollution, the night sky blazed with brilliance.

But as Du Peng finished speaking—

The figure in the sky erupted with boundless power, enough to shake heaven and earth.

The ground trembled, winds howled, silver lightning interwove across the sky.

In an instant—

The distant land rose into an impassable wall, encircling the shelter from east to north. Then the wind swept in vast quantities of freshwater, pooling into lakes atop the sunken earth, connecting to underground aquifers to ensure endless water.

The soil churned; sand, gravel, and rocks vanished, replaced by fertile farmland.

Silver lightning rained down continuously, vaporizing bio-monsters hiding nearby before they could flee.

"Is this the power to reshape heaven and earth?" Du Peng, the veteran, Zhang Jieshan, and the survivors behind them stood frozen in awe.

Though they never doubted Li Yi's strength,

witnessing this divine being summon storms and move mountains, fill seas—it was terrifying, like a myth reborn, something only found in legends. Yet tonight, they had seen it with their own eyes.

The rising land formed a natural barrier, the wall blocked bio-monster invasions, fertile soil and water ensured survival, and the lightning purged hidden threats.

Wait—was it raining?

The night sky held no clouds, yet heavy rain poured down.

Within the downpour fell a vital essence of life, nourishing the barren land.

For the next period, anyone living on this land would grow stronger, ensuring they survived the harshest early days.

Having completed all this, Li Yi descended from the heavens, stepping on auspicious clouds.

"I now transmit to you the Evolution Method. What the future holds depends on you." He extended one finger; a thread of Primordial Spirit energy coalesced upon it, all knowledge of the Evolution Method converging there.

He merely flicked his fingers.

The light of his Primordial Spirit enveloped these survivors, and thereafter, all knowledge of the Evolution Method arose within their minds.

The Evolution Method is not a sophisticated cultivation technique, but it excels in comprehensiveness and is exceptionally suited for combat and killing; most importantly, it does not demand high innate talent—so long as you can enter the gate, and put in the effort, attaining Spiritual Awareness is certain.

With the power of Spiritual Awareness, slaying transformed monsters becomes as easy as eating and drinking.
