Chapter 302: The Young Lady Has a Cold

~7 min read 1,358 words

In the blink of an eye it was the end of December, New Year's Day.

C Shi saw a light drizzle, but the Mu Family's indoor temperature remained constant.

But the Mu Family had a major incident—

The young lady caught a cold!

As soon as the news spread, the Mu Family entered a state of high alert, from the butler down to the servants, everyone busy to the point of not touching the ground.

Yet they held their breath, daring not to make a sound, fearing to disturb the precious little master upstairs.

Aunt Qing even personally took charge, fearing any mistake.

"No, the young lady doesn't like hot milk of this brand; warm it to forty degrees, no more, no less."

"Is the cold medicine ready? It should be warmed to a comfortable temperature for drinking, don't scald her."

"Also the millet porridge, add more sugar; if it's bland she'll lose her appetite."

"All right, all right!"

Several young servants gathered nearby, eager to try, whispering volunteers: "Let me deliver it!"

Although the young lady doesn't need coaxing to take medicine, they all wanted to take this opportunity to go over.

Someone raised a hand, "I want to go too."

The Mu Family's servants have mostly never been replaced; most have watched Mu Youyu grow up.

Over more than a decade of daily interaction, they've long regarded her as their own cherished little treasure.

Now they all want to use delivering things as an excuse to see her more and show their care.

Aunt Qing gave a light cough, took the millet porridge and cold medicine in hand, "Stop arguing, I'm the most suitable to go; you adjust the downstairs air conditioner up by one degree, and also set the humidifier to proper humidity."

No one could argue with Aunt Qing; they agreed reluctantly and dispersed, each busy with their own tasks, keeping the young lady in mind, even walking lightly.

At that moment, Mu Xin pushed the door and entered the villa, his clothes still carrying the outdoor chill.

He put away his umbrella, saw the tray in Aunt Qing's hands, stepped forward and reached to take it, "Let me have it, I'll deliver it upstairs."

Aunt Qing didn't hesitate, quickly handed over the items, "Young master, the young lady has a low‑temperature cold and little appetite; please persuade her to eat."

Mu Xin nodded, picked up the things and hurried upstairs, pushing open Mu Youyu's bedroom door.

Mu Youyu had just finished washing up, wearing soft pajamas, her face pale, sitting on the bed.

Before her lay a chilled breakfast, the toast and fruit untouched.

She didn't even have the strength to lift her eyes; her once bright eyes were now veiled with fatigue.

She listlessly played a phone game, growing more dizzy, so she tossed the phone aside and lay limp.

Hearing the door open, she instinctively frowned, her voice hoarse: "I don't want to eat, you guys enjoy yourselves……"

Before she finished speaking, seeing it was Mu Xin, her eyes lit up and her tone softened: "Brother! Why are you back?"

Mu Xin walked to her side, placed the porridge and medicine on the small table beside the bed, and gently felt her forehead.

Confirming it was only a low‑temperature cold with no fever, he slightly relaxed his brow.

He sat beside her, scooped a spoonful of millet porridge with a small spoon, blew on it to cool, and brought it to her lips: "I heard you have a cold; would you like to eat something?"

Mu Youyu obediently opened her mouth and swallowed; the sweetness was just right, yet she couldn't help muttering, "I can't eat."

"How about one more bite?" Mu Xin coaxed patiently.

"All right." Mu Youyu couldn't resist, took another bite, then gently turned her head to indicate she really didn't want to eat.

"Such a good girl." Seeing she really had no appetite, Mu Xin put the porridge on the table, didn't insist, and kept his gaze on her the whole time, full of undisguised affection.

"Do you want milk?"

"No." Mu Youyu shook her head, rubbing her little head against his arm like a spoiled kitten.

Mu Xin ruffled her soft hair, speaking gently: "Then let's take the medicine first; after you finish, sleep a nap, and you'll feel better when you wake up, okay?"

Mu Youyu nodded obediently, took the warm water he offered, and swallowed the cold medicine in one gulp.

She also ate the sugar‑coated fruit candy he had prepared beforehand, then obediently lay down on the bed, staring at him without blinking.

Mu Xin helped tuck in the blanket corners, leaving only her small face exposed.

Just as he finished, Mu Xi saw the door left open and walked in, holding a large bag of snacks.

They were all the potato chips, chocolate, candy, dried fruit and small biscuits Mu Youyu usually liked, packaged in cute designs.

He lowered his voice, eyes full of distress: "Sweetie, how did you catch a cold? Was it because you went out to play with Jiang Liangjin yesterday and got chilled?"

Mu Xin thought that was very likely the cause, and at that moment he didn't bother to defend himself.

He simply stood silently to the side, his eyes holding a silent reproach toward Jiang Liangjin.

Mu Youyu heard his voice, saw the bag of snacks, instantly perked up, and opened her little arms toward him.

Her voice was soft and nasal, especially endearing: "Second brother~"

Mu Xi smiled, placed the snack bag on the carpet beside the bed, leaned in and gently hugged her: "Did you take the medicine? Our treasure is the best behaved, even when sick she doesn't throw a tantrum."

From childhood to present, aside from Mu Nian who is often away, it's mostly this brother who has taken care of her the most, accompanying her in drawing and to and from school.

Naturally he knows how to coax someone most effectively.

"I ate!" Mu Youyu rubbed her little head against his chest.

Mu Xi helped her pull up the blanket, then couldn't help praising: "Heavens, our treasure is truly obedient."

"I want to eat snacks!" Mu Youyu pointed her little hand at the snacks on the carpet.

"Eat snacks after you wake up and finish your meal; when you're better, whatever you want, I'll bring the whole snack store back for you, second brother."

He still wanted to say a few more comforting words, but Mu Xin beside him lightly tugged his sleeve and gave him a look.

Mu Xi understood, smiled at his sister, lowered his voice: "Then we'll go downstairs first; call us if you need anything."

"All right." She had no choice but to lie down again.

Mu Xin picked up the sleeping glutinous rice on the carpet and carried it out.

Mu Youyu slept until afternoon.

She stepped on her fluffy slippers, which went pat-pat-pat as she went downstairs, and saw Jiang Liangjin, Mu Xin, Mu Xi, Qing An, and Mu Xianqi.

Even Mu Nian didn't know when he had rushed back.

The group each sat on a few sofas, with no busy figures, no one speaking, just sitting.

Seeing her come downstairs, everyone's eyes lit up; Mu Xi was the first to stand, quickly walked over, and asked, "Baby awake? Anywhere uncomfortable?"

Mu Xin also stood up, saying, "Hungry? Qing Ma cooked porridge, keeping it warm."

Mu Nian walked up to her and said, "The private doctor is sitting in the courtyard; we'll check after we eat."

Mu Xianqi spoke softly, "Baby awake, shall we eat first?"

Qing An shook the glutinous rice in his hand and said, "Come quickly, brother will warm the glutinous rice for your hands!"

Mu Youyu wore a fluffy outfit, matching scarf, hat, and gloves, wrapping herself like a little rice ball.

Her small face was still a bit pale, but the morning's gloom was gone, her eyes bright and sparkling.

She instantly saw Jiang Liangjin, whose gaze had never left her since she came downstairs, immediately broke into a sweet smile, and her voice became much clearer: "A Jin!"
