Chapter 401: Position

~7 min read 1,276 words

The class teacher walked onto the podium at the right moment.

He was a male teacher in his twenties, with delicate features and a refined demeanor, obviously very patient.

His gaze swept over the four, finally landing on Mu Youyu's face, and he smiled especially kindly, "Welcome the four new students to Class 1; I am your homeroom teacher, surnamed Zhou."

Mu Youyu obediently greeted, "Hello, Teacher Zhou."

Zhou Laoshi smiled, his eyes narrowing, "Good, good, good, Mu student, no need to be polite, sit, sit, choose your own seats, sit wherever you like, there are a few new chairs in the back row."

A student below shouted, "Brother Zhou, you're being too preferential! Last time a transfer student came, you made them sit in the last row!"

Zhou Laoshi said, "That transfer student last time was you—what were your grades, and what were theirs?"

The whole class burst into laughter.

Mu Youyu glanced around the classroom.

Class 1 of the third year wasn't full to begin with; the classroom was a bit larger than the previous Class A, and with thirty-odd students it felt empty.

About half the seats in the class were vacant, but none were adjacent.

She hesitated, but Mu Xi had already stood up, kicked Song Lujing's chair aside, and said, "Sit here."

Mu Youyu saw that the spot her brother had vacated suited her; she pulled Jiang Liangjin and headed to the third group, fourth row.

?

Mu Xi hadn't even opened his mouth when he saw his sister already sitting in his seat.

Class 1's seating arrangement consisted of long tables with matching chairs.

He then saw Jiang Liangjin naturally take a chair and begin tidying the spot next to his sister.

"……" Mu Xi twitched the corner of his mouth, lowered his eyes to the spot he had vacated, then looked at the backs of his sister and Jiang Liangjin already seated.

"Fine."

The students stared wide-eyed, their gazes drifting back and forth over the four.

Song Lujing glanced at Mu Xi, then at the two heads almost touching in front, and couldn't help laughing, "Brother Xi, this is what they call trying to steal a chicken and ending up losing the rice used to bait it."

Mu Xi's face was expressionless, "Shut up, go move the desk yourself, don't sit with me."

Song Lujing: "I insist on sitting with you!!"

Yu Ci hesitated, looking at the seat behind Mu Youyu, which was already taken.

Gu Xingnan headed straight for the last row, his long fingers tapping the tabletop then pointing to the adjacent seat, he turned to the male student occupying two seats and said calmly, "Classmate, may we switch seats?"

That male student was lowering his head to scroll his phone; hearing this, he lifted his head, met Gu Xingnan's unfriendly eyes, froze for a second, then came to.

He glanced at the indicated spot, his face showing difficulty, "But……"

Song Lujing, seeing it through to the end, turned, "Lan Xin, hurry up and switch."

"Ah? Oh, okay." Lan Xin, hearing his words, hesitated no longer, quickly gathered her things and moved over.

Gu Xingnan nodded slightly in thanks, turned to look at Yu Ci still standing in front, his tone completely changed, "Come, sit here."

The whole class: "Was that just instant teleportation and a face‑change?"

After the four had settled, Zhou Laoshi looked toward the back row, his gaze shifting from the seatless Song Lujing and Mu Xi to the newcomers, "You four, would you like to move up front? The view from the back isn't great."

Mu Youyu shook her head, "No thanks, Teacher Zhou, this spot is fine."

This teacher is really strange; just a moment ago he said we could sit anywhere.

Zhou Laoshi was about to say more when Mu Xi spoke up, his eyes cold, "My sister will sit wherever she wants."

The teacher immediately corrected himself, "Yes, yes, yes, sit wherever you like, sit wherever you like."

The whole class: "As expected, Brother Xi remains the untouchable presence in class!"

By then even Young Master Jiang will have to call him brother.

Mu Youyu poked Jiang Liangjin; he lowered his head to look at her, using his gaze to ask, "What's up?"

She leaned in, voice low, "Second Brother is so fierce in class."

"I feel the same……"

Mu Xi gave him a cool, dismissive glance; Jiang Liangjin realized the remark was inappropriate, immediately stood up again to make amends, "Teacher Zhou, can we add a seat?"

Zhou Laoshi countered, "Add a seat?"

Jiang Liangjin explained calmly, "We and Brother Xi want to sit together for easier study discussion."

The standing Mu Xi, and Song Lujing seated in the aisle, instantly perked up upon hearing this; they had still planned to move seats after class.

The entire class fell silent for a second.

Someone in the back row couldn't help muttering under their breath, "What a bunch, four people wanting to sit together—doesn't that mean occupying the last two rows entirely?"

"Young Master Jiang certainly has the confidence for that—look at Brother Zhou's expression, he's clearly giving it serious thought."

"If four people sit together, won't the others have to shift elsewhere?"

"Just shift them; anyway the others can move up front, otherwise it's always awkward to have empty seats."

Zhou Laoshi was indeed giving it serious thought; his gaze swept over the few empty seats in the front of the classroom, then landed on Mu Youyu sitting in Mu Xi's spot.

Mu Youyu stood at the very front, her pink‑gold hair tied in a low ponytail, wearing a black cotton outfit, her eyes clean and clear as she looked at him, waiting for his decision.

Beside her, Jiang Liangjin wore the same outfit, his face expressionless yet inexplicably giving off the pressure of, "If you don't agree, I'll just move the desk myself."

As for Mu Xi and Song Lujing, they also looked over, their expressions matching Jiang Liangjin's.

"No need to add a seat," Zhou Laoshi cleared his throat, pointing to the person separated from Mu Youyu by an aisle, "You two, give up your seats and move up front."

"Also, combine the seat next to Yu Ci, and have the other students shift forward a bit."

The whole class: "?"

"Brother Zhou, what did you just say? Have us move forward?"

"No, we're sitting just fine—why should we have to move?"

"Exactly, why should we make room just because they showed up?"

Someone watching the commotion couldn't help but chime in, "Hey, why are you moving?"

Complaints rose and fell, but when their eyes met Jiang Liangjin's sweeping gaze, their voices unconsciously dropped.

Song Lujing couldn't stand it anymore, "What are you shouting about? Those few seats you're sitting in were originally taken for my sister by me; what's the problem with asking you to move?"

The whole class:?

Someone blurted out, "Your sister's butt is so big!"

Mu Youyu tugged at Jiang Liangjin's sleeve, speechless.

Stifled laughter came from the crowd; Jiang Liangjin's eyes turned cold, and Mu Xi's gaze flashed with severity, "How are you speaking like that?"

That person immediately fell silent.

A classmate seized the chance to steer the topic back: "Song Lujing, when did you take that seat? We didn't hear a whisper about it."

Song Lujing's gaze was steady, "I took it with my mind; it's normal you wouldn't know."

The classmates began to surrender, "You win."

Mu Youyu had no other reaction; oh well, let them be.

Sure enough, as soon as Song Lujing spoke, the classmates who had been complaining just now had no more opposing voices.
