Chapter 402: Top-notch Class
The surrounding students' minds suddenly eased, but not because they believed his "thought-seat reservation."
But then they suddenly remembered—this was the Mu family's eldest daughter! Forget sitting in the front row; even if they wanted a whole classroom to themselves, Nan Feng could arrange it.
Moreover, Jiang Liangjin stood beside her, and all the heads of the four major conglomerates were present.
With so many empty seats in the front, it was no big deal for them to shift over a bit.
"Fine, fine, let's move."
"Song-ge, you said earlier you wanted the four of us to sit together—we definitely saved the best spots for you."
"Exactly, exactly, the young lady can sit wherever she wants—we have no objections."
"Alright, I'm getting out of here."
The nearby students chatted while they started packing up their things and moving forward, doing it quite efficiently.
Soon the two long tables were pushed together.
With the matter settled, Zhou Laoshi spoke up to soothe them: "Alright, alright, everyone quiet down a bit."
The classroom's din gradually faded, and the students turned their attention back to the podium.
Zhou Laoshi pushed up his glasses, his gaze sweeping over Mu Youyu and the three others in the back row, his tone a bit more formal than before: "These four new transfer students have just arrived—please look after them. Especially Mu Youyu; her former homeroom teacher said her health is fine now, so don't make too much of a fuss."
The whole class turned to look at Mu Youyu.
"What's wrong with your sister?"
"I don't know; I haven't heard anything."
"It seems something happened to her earlier in M Guo."
"M Guo? Ohhh, I remember now—it was that kidnapping..."
"Shh! Keep your voice down!"
Zhou Laoshi changed the subject: "Alright, school has started—settle down, let's begin class."
He opened the textbook and began lecturing on the new material.
The third-year Class 1 gained four more students, bringing the total to forty-three.
To outsiders, this is the enviable top class—blessed with excellent prospects, a bright future, and even more buzz than the Olympiad class.
In Zhou Laoshi's eyes, it is indeed a good class, but the definition of "good" here is somewhat subtle.
About half of those who can get into this classroom are top-scoring academic geniuses, the other half are scions of powerful families with strong backgrounds, plus a few in between—decent grades and family wealth.
As for the recommended spots, half the class already have them secured; the other half mostly can't be bothered to compete, not wanting to go to the Olympiad class.
They feel the college entrance exam is a breeze that'll get them into a good university, or their families have paved the way for them to attend an international university.
The classroom atmosphere is more relaxed than the neighboring Olympiad class by more than one notch.
Zhou Laoshi's lecture pace isn't fast; he occasionally stops to ask a question, a few scattered students answer, he doesn't get annoyed, and continues with a smiling, squinting gaze.
Mu Youyu listened for a while and found the difficulty lower than she had expected.
She turned her head to glance at Jiang Liangjin, saw him holding a pen and scribbling in his notebook, leaned over to look, and realized he was drawing her listening to class.
"You're not listening in class?" Mu Youyu said, lowering her voice.
Jiang Liangjin's pen paused, he turned a page without changing his expression, "I am listening."
"Then why are you drawing me?"
"Practicing speed writing."
Mu Youyu was about to say something when Mu Xi, sitting beside her, glanced between them, finally resting her gaze on Jiang Liangjin's face, and said, "Don't disturb my sister during class."
Jiang Liangjin immediately sat up straight, obedient as an elementary school student, "Got it, older brother—my mistake."
Mu Youyu held back her laughter, withdrew her gaze, and listened attentively.
Beside Mu Xi, Song Lujing stood his textbook upright on the desk, hid his head behind it, and was scrolling on his phone under the table, completely unaware.
Zhou Laoshi lectured for most of the period from the podium, finally stopped to take a sip of water, his gaze unintentionally sweeping the back row, and suddenly said, "Mu student."
Mu Youyu and Mu Xi both looked up.
"This problem, why don't you give it a try?"
He pointed to the math fill-in-the-blank on the blackboard, his gaze clearly fixed on Mu Youyu.
Mu Youyu felt a stir, was about to rise, when she saw Song Lujing tap Mu Xi's desk.
The Mu student rose calmly, "Okay, teacher."
Zhou Laoshi:? Wasn't someone else called?
Jiang Liangjin lowered his head, one hand resting against his lips.
The students below also secretly chuckled.
"Xi-ge hasn't been called on to answer a question in two years—why is Zhou-ge calling on him now?"
"It's obviously his sister being pointed out—Xi-ge is reading too much into it."
"Xi-ge is handsome—what's wrong with being a bit self‑importunate?"
"Is Young Master Jiang laughing? It gives me the feeling that someone provoked him—what's going on?"
Mu Youyu stopped her motion to stand up.
Mu Xi stepped up to the podium, picked up a pen, glanced at the problem, finished the answer in under a minute, and turned to return to her seat.
Zhou Laoshi finally reminded, "Mu Xi student, I called on your younger sister."
Mu Xi: "I know, I answered for her."
Zhou Laoshi: "This isn't a buzzer‑question contest."
Mu Xi gave a faint "hum," kept walking, went straight back to her seat and sat down, with no intention of apologizing for answering in her sister's place.
The dismissal bell rang, and Zhou Laoshi hurried out of the classroom.
A flash of pink hair burst in through the back door: "My dear treasure, you arrived that fast!"
Mu Youyu's brows slightly curved, she looked at the girl who had run up behind her: "Ningning."
Lin Ning often came to Class 1 to find Ye Zeli; the classmates weren't surprised, but this time she obviously came to find Mu Youyu.
Ye Zeli in the front row paused, then instinctively turned back.
Lin Ning affectionately put her arm around her shoulder, "What class do you have next period, are you still going?"
Mu Youyu shook her head to indicate she hadn't checked the schedule yet, "I have to attend all classes."
Lin Ning paid no attention to others, with a regretful expression, "All right, I and Yin Yin are going to skip later… no, we just plan to change a place to study!"
Lin Yu couldn't stand it anymore, "What are you doing, dragging Yin Yin down?"
Jiang Liangjin recalled one of the scenes she had encountered not long ago, raising her eyebrows.
Class 1 really has quite a few amusing things.
Lin Ning couldn't be bothered with this cousin who always acted crazy and clung to her female friends, "Why do you care so much? Look, Yin Yin doesn't even bother with you."
"You!" Lin Yu exploded in anger, but eventually, still afraid she'd tell her sister, she sat back down beside Ye Zeli.
Lin Ning stopped paying attention to him, glanced around the classroom, then leaned in to whisper something to Mu Youyu's ear before waving her hand satisfied, "I'm off then, let's eat together after school!"
After saying that, she turned to leave; as she passed the front row, her steps paused briefly, her gaze sweeping over Ye Zeli as quickly as if she had unintentionally glanced over an empty chair.
Then she left the classroom without looking back.
Ye Zeli sat in his seat, the pen in his hand turning another round before finally resting on the desk.
Mu Youyu took in that scene, thoughtful, she withdrew her gaze, tilted her head toward Jiang Liangjin, and lowered her voice: "A Jin, what's going on between Ningning and him?"
Jiang Liangjin was flipping through her textbook; hearing this, she didn't even lift her head, "I don't know, I don't care."
"How can you not know anything?"
"I know you're thirsty." He took a bottle of water from the desk drawer, unscrewed the cap, and handed it over, his tone carrying a coaxing note.
Mu Youyu took it and drank a sip, unwilling to give up, she continued asking, "Then what else do you know?"
Jiang Liangjin thought for a moment, then said seriously, "I know something about the next student council president of Lan Lin."
As soon as those words were spoken, Mu Xi also turned her body sideways.
