Chapter 599: Keep a Low Profile

~7 min read 1,388 words

Mu Youyu exclaimed in surprise, "Xiao Yu? How did you come now? Aren't you preparing for the third mock exam?"

She had indeed seen Yu Yu's name on the invitation last month, and had thought this person would only arrive in the afternoon, after all the exam was imminent and every second counted.

"Exactly, we finished our exams early." Yu Yu shifted her feet forward.

"How long have you been here?" Mu Youyu said, her tone much more relaxed than before, turning to face her.

Yu Yu came around to the front. "I just arrived."

"Like that." Mu Youyu examined Yu Yu from head to toe, finally pausing on her short hair, her question tinged with novelty, "Did you cut your hair?"

"Just for a change of mood." Yu Yu raised her hand and touched the ends of her hair.

"Our Xiao Yu looks great with short hair." Mu Youyu lightly tapped the tips of her hair with her fingertip.

Yu Yu felt a little embarrassed, pursed her lips and smiled, revealing shallow dimples.

Mu Youyu asked again, "Did that teacher of yours ask you to come?"

She still remembered Yu Yu saying that the teacher she knew was a former physical education teacher from Sheng Luo who had taught their class.

Yu Yu nodded. "Yes, he said that if I ever came to C Shi to study, I should participate more in these activities and make some connections."

She hadn't originally planned to participate in this kind of event, but when she realized the location was in C Shi and Mu Youyu was here, she decided to come.

Mu Youyu raised her eyebrows slightly. "You're going to take the C University entrance exam? At first you weren't planning to study abroad?"

Although Yu Yu's recommended admission slot had actually already been granted, she earnestly put her thoughts into words: "I'm thinking of finishing my undergraduate studies at C University, then applying to study abroad, so I can get more familiar with this environment and not feel too alien."

"That works too." Mu Youyu listened, gave a slight nod, and said, "Anyway, you're still young, no rush to go out."

She paused, then asked again, "Do your uncle and aunt know about this? Do they agree to your change of plans?"

Yu Yu lowered her eyes, without mentioning that she had argued with them, "I told them, they had no objections, saying I could decide for myself."

Mu Youyu heard that slight hesitation in her voice, reached out and lightly pressed her shoulder, "That's fine, as long as you've thought it through clearly."

Yu Yu's eyes flickered, "Mm, I've thought it through clearly."

After chatting about everyday matters for a few sentences, Mu Youyu remembered something and said with a giggle, "When the time comes for the college entrance exam, I and Cen Cen will go back to keep you and Wan Wan company—do you want me to bring you a banner? The extra-large kind."

Yu Yu imagined that scene, shrank her neck, and said, "Never mind, we want to keep a low profile!"

Mu Youyu drawled, "Those banners you guys prepared for me back then got me onto the hot search list."

"Actually, I just wanted to give you a surprise—who knew it would work so well…" Yu Yu defended herself softly, then couldn't help laughing, "Or maybe it's just that our Sister Mu has charm."

Mu Youyu sighed helplessly, "Fine, then you stay low-key, and I'll go with Cen Cen to make a bigger one for Wan Wan, so she can be flashy."

Yu Yu had no hesitation, "I think that's fine—last year this idea was Wan Wan's, she'll definitely like it!"

"However, Sister Mu, if you go, those people in our class will definitely be happy; they've been saying they miss you lately."

In the class Mu Youyu had been in at Sheng Luo before, the students were all forming small cliques, and she didn't like that atmosphere.

But some of those people were hanging out with Liu Wanwan and Feng Cen, and she could still talk to a few of them, though not many.

After arriving in C Shi, she only kept in touch with Feng Cen and the three of them, while contact with the rest had essentially been cut off.

Mu Youyu didn't believe it, "They miss me? I haven't received any of their messages."

Yu Yu weakly reminded, "They've posted many messages in the group, often tagging you, but you never showed up."

She remembered clearly that those people, upon seeing how well Mu Youyu got along with Liu Wanwan and Feng Cen at first, wanted to add Mu Youyu's contact information.

But Liu Wanwan and Feng Cen blocked them all, and in the end they only pulled her into a sisters' group.

Up to now, the only contacts Mu Youyu has among the people she knows in A City are those three sisters.

"What group?"

Mu Youyu pondered for a moment, then vaguely recalled that group she had blocked long ago, not knowing what to say.

"……"

Yu Yu looked at her expression of trying hard to recall, pursed her lips and smiled slightly, "You definitely haven't opened it to look."

"Should have opened it by now?" Mu Youyu lowered her head, took out her phone, and after scrolling for a while finally found that group chat buried at the bottom.

Upon opening it, the message log had already piled up to several hundred entries.

She glanced over it roughly and indeed saw many people tagging her, mostly asking how she's been lately, when she'd return to Sheng Luo for a visit, and then sending a few holiday greetings on festivals.

Mu Youyu didn't finish reading, locked the screen, "I'll take another look later."

Yu Yu didn't really care about this matter, after all it's not like she's being ignored by Sister Mu.

"It's fine, they're just muttering about you; you're used to not replying to them. If you did reply, you'd have to say it's like a missing person returning."

"As long as Xiao Yu knows I'm not missing, that's good."

Mu Youyu made a joke, then led Yu Yu to the painting at the beginning that had two names on it, asking, "What do you think of this piece?"

Yu Yu examined it seriously, "The color tone and overall look are quite comfortable, and the figures' expressions are captured accurately."

"Hmm, that's about what I had in mind." Mu Youyu blinked her eyes, "Let's go, let's keep looking inside."

The two of them toured the entire exhibition hall, during which many people recognized them, keeping them busy with signing autographs and taking photos for a while.

They sat on a bench in the resting area for a while, then exited through the side door.

The sunlight outside was a bit stronger than when they had gone in.

Yu Yu lowered her brows to look at the time on her phone, "Sister Mu, do you have any plans later?"

"I'm planning to go find A Jin's company to have lunch together." Mu Youyu asked her, "Are you going back to school this afternoon?"

Yu Yu shook her head, "I've taken leave, I'll only go back tomorrow."

"Then come eat with us; after the meal I'll have the driver take you back."

Yu Yu didn't decline, agreeing quickly, "Okay."

She followed beside Mu Youyu down the steps, raised a hand to block the light, squinted her eyes, and asked, "Where is his company?"

Mu Youyu pointed her chin at the building across the street, "His company is just over there—walk in and you're there; I didn't bring a driver, it's a ten-minute walk."

Yu Yu nodded, opened a sun umbrella, and held it over both of their heads.

After walking ten-odd minutes, the Shen Family Building came into view.

At the main gate, staff in uniform were on duty; upon seeing Mu Youyu, they bowed from afar.

Yu Yu walked beside Mu Youyu, silent, eyes fixed straight ahead, as if blanking her thoughts.

Mu Youyu swiped the access for her.

The front desk recognized her, gave a slight bow, and Smile became warm, "Miss Mu, Director Jiang is still in a meeting; do you need me to have someone notify him you've come up?"

"No need, I'll go up myself."
