Chapter 65: Zongfang Does Not Want the Cubs

~7 min read 1,337 words

Luka cut off what Laiboli was about to say, stared at Ka'er for a long moment, and said abruptly, "She just gave birth, and her body hasn't fully recovered yet. Besides, she was very afraid of him before."

Ka'er dropped his unserious demeanor, said "Got it," and without further delay, vanished on the spot.

When Laiboli heard Luka's words, he turned his head to look at him. He keenly sensed that Luka must know what had happened between Ka'er and Sui Sui, which was why he spoke that way. Most importantly, Ka'er was always the type who refused to be constrained; last time, he had to pressure Ka'er's superiors to get him to support Luka, yet this time, he had agreed so easily.

Luka received Laiboli's scrutinizing gaze and simply pretended not to see it.

Sang Yan's gaze shifted back and forth between the two, a thousand thoughts flashing through his eyes, but it was impossible to easily discern his true intentions.

Gaimailun furrowed his brows in conflict, his gaze shifting back and forth on Sang Yan. His thoughts were all written on his face; one moment he was worried about Sang Yan's orientation, the next he felt he should respect, understand, and offer his blessings. A Yao glanced at him sideways and said, "Brother Yan has no interest in you, give it up."

Inside the space.

Zongfang looked at the person who had kept her head down and remained silent since they returned, and he also sat to the side in silence.

The atmosphere became suffocating for a moment.

After a long while, Zongfang spoke first.

"Qiaoqiao."

"."

"What do you like about them?"

Qiao Suisui looked up, not understanding why he suddenly asked this.

"Power? Status? Or something else? I can have all of that." Zongfang walked to the bedside, stood before her, and raised a hand to touch her head. "You can go out, and I will return your younglings to you, but I must kill them."

Qiao Suisui was stunned, not understanding why he was suddenly acting crazy.

"Is this the only way you can handle problems?"

She found it hard to comprehend.

"Zongfang, is it that as long as someone doesn't follow your lead or revolve around you, you have to kill everyone who displeases you?"

"What's the problem with that?"

Silence.

A terrifying silence.

A suffocating silence.

The two spoke past each other, and in the end, neither could understand the other.

Qiao Suisui gave a bitter smile; she no longer had the heart for even half a sentence.

Seeing her like this, Zongfang's jealousy grew even more intense. He had only tested her with a few words, and she was already so anxious to turn against him for those two people.

Fine, very fine.

He grabbed her wrists, pinned her to the bed, and pressed his knee between her legs.

"Let go!"

Qiao Suisui kicked and hit him, but the man remained unmoved.

Furious, he gripped the back of her neck and sealed her lips, preventing her from saying any more of those words that pierced his heart.

He had simply spoiled her too much, indulging her until she stabbed him in the vitals every time, knowing exactly how to hurt him the most.

Qiao Suisui was kissed until she couldn't breathe, unable to push him away. Having just gathered the courage to talk things through with him, all her visions for their future were now shattered.

The man released her lips, silver threads of saliva stretching between them, intimate and inseparable. Seeing her cheeks flushed crimson and tear tracks at the corners of her eyes, he frowned instantly.

His scorching fingertips touched her face, gently wiping away her tears. Zongfang ran his fingers through her hair, kissing the corners of her eyes over and over.

He said with a hint of petulance, "Why are you crying? What did I do to you?"

Qiao Suisui didn't speak, keeping her eyes lowered and ignoring him.

He twisted her chin, forcing her to look directly at him.

"Qiaoqiao, can't you just look at me from now on? Anything they can give you, I can give you too."

Tears still hung on her long eyelashes; she said nothing, only weeping silently. Zongfang felt his heart turn bitter at the sight of those tears, and seeing her so unwilling, an indescribable irritability surged in his heart.

He gripped her throat and kissed her again, this time without restraining his strength. After their unpleasant conversation, Qiao Suisui was truly unwilling, struggling to push him away and biting him to no avail, until finally, she cried out, "Don't touch me, I'm pregnant."

The man's back stiffened; he lifted his head from her, a flash of surprise in his eyes.

"Really?" Then, recalling her nature, he frowned and said, "Little liar, if you dare to lie to me about this, I will never indulge you again."

Seeing her sweating from crying and struggling to breathe, he immediately picked her up, placed her on his lap, and stroked her back to help her catch her breath.

"Can't you just check and see if I'm lying?"

She hadn't had time to use the Multi-Birth Pill this time, but the system prompted her that she was pregnant with nine little snake cubs; one could only say Zongfang was indeed strong—after all, snakes have two.

Qiao Suisui had originally intended to wait until their relationship stabilized before telling him, but now she had changed her mind. A person's temperament is hard to change; she had only been intoxicated by the stimulating attraction Zongfang brought her, while ignoring something more important—

If two people want to walk a long path together, it depends on whether they are compatible.

She and Zongfang were two different kinds of people; their values were different, and their personalities were even less compatible. She didn't want to compromise or accommodate; she didn't like his paranoia and possessiveness, and Zongfang couldn't accept other males around her.

Love can be worn away.

Qiao Suisui didn't know if, on the day his feelings for her were exhausted by friction and arguments, she would still have the strength to continue.

Whoever wants it, changes.

Qiao Suisui wanted to become strong herself. Although she had to rely on others for now, she herself was the most important thing, which meant she couldn't change for Zongfang just for a moment of infatuation.

While she was thinking these things, she didn't notice the look of worry that replaced Zongfang's surprise.

"Didn't you just give birth?"

She nodded, and Zongfang's expression turned somewhat ugly.

A human body is not as strong as a beastman's, let alone her small frame... Zongfang held her slender wrist, rubbing her wrist bone, feeling a sense of self-reproach for the first time.

She had just given birth and was pregnant again, meaning her body had no time to recover properly. Under these circumstances, would the birth be dangerous...

"Qiaoqiao, listen to me." Zongfang's chest heaved, and it took a long time for him to find his voice. "How about we don't keep this litter of cubs for now, okay?"

Qiao Suisui stood frozen, not expecting him to say such a thing.

Zongfang cupped her face, his eyes full of anxiety.

"We can have them later, in a year or two. Not now, your body right now..."

"But I'm already pregnant." Qiao Suisui shook off his hand, her voice trembling. "It's not someone else's child, it's your child. If you don't believe me, you can have it checked."

"That's not what I meant, don't cry..." Zongfang wiped her tears with a pained heart, just about to explain the pros and cons to her carefully, when suddenly, a loud boom erupted within the space.

The door was blown open, and amidst a cloud of dust and swirling smoke, a man with short red hair walked in with his hands in his pockets.

"Yo, looks like I came at a bad time."

Ka'er: I'm here to join this family. ===== CHAPTER 66 =====
