Chapter 99: Alternative Confession
Qiao Suisui lowered her eyes, remembering that she hadn't received a single message from Zongfang in the past few days... Previously, he would video call her once a day, and even if she said she was sleepy and wanted to sleep, he wouldn't let her hang up, just listening to her breathing without saying a word.
Cold war?
But for what?
She couldn't figure it out. Everything was clearly fine.
The day she left, she took the little lion, not only because she wanted to return Luka's child to Luka, but also because she wanted Zongfang to come and ask her when he saw the little lion was gone, so she could ask him why he had left her behind and departed early that night.
That night, she clearly felt Zongfang's attitude was evasive, and he even left early the next day without saying a word. This kind of thing had never happened before; previously, even if he had work, he would deliberately kiss her awake, then explain a few things before leaving.
Thinking of this, she pressed her temples with some fatigue, closed her eyes, and said to Ka'er: "No need."
There had always been a problem between her and Zongfang, which was that their concepts of dealing with emotions were very different. Qiao Suisui was a person with very little sense of security; once she liked someone, she would even unconsciously fall into anxiety, fearing being abandoned. So she had always guarded her heart and wouldn't easily open it to anyone, just because she was worried she would fall into that kind of uncontrollable anxiety.
And Zongfang was a person who was too self-willed; his strength was the basis for his moodiness. When he wanted something, he would get it by any means necessary; similarly, when he didn't want something, he wouldn't allow others to say no.
Qiao Suisui was smart and sensitive enough to have the upper hand in their invisible game. But she dared not imagine, if one day she truly fell in love with Zongfang, but he treated her with hot and cold, turned around and left, at that time, would she not even have the qualification to not accept it? His love was a kind of overbearing force that didn't allow for questioning; when he loved you, it was intense, making you feel like you were falling from the clouds, but what about when he didn't love you? Could she stand up again after falling from the clouds?
Actually, after coming out of the space with Zongfang, she had been deliberately ignoring this kind of unease. Until that night, she waited until very late, happily going to the door to welcome him back, but what she got were a few words that were a huge contrast to the past, and a bucket of cold water completely woke her up.
He was still that moody man, and she was still that coward who dared not love.
The disappointed mood had already been adjusted, but the unfinished regrets always appeared in her dreams. Qiao Suisui thought and thought until she fell asleep, and Ka'er guarded her bedside quietly.
It wasn't until the second half of the night that the Illusion Pill automatically failed.
Ka'er looked at the slightly pale complexion of the person on the bed and frowned unconsciously. He reached out to touch her forehead, and only after confirming she didn't have a fever did he sit back in the chair. Starlight poured into the room, spilling onto her bedside. The sleeping person tilted her head slightly, her hand placed unconsciously by her cheek, her fingers curled. Ka'er watched her sleeping face, and on a whim, he quietly placed a finger between her curled fingers.
His hands were large, calloused from years of holding a gun. He gently squeezed her palm, and unlike his own roughness, her palm was soft and small, and he discovered that the small hand happened to loosely hold his index finger.
Ka'er knelt by the bed, playing with her fingers. He rested his head on his arm, his gaze focused, his eyes containing a smile.
He picked up a strand of Qiao Suisui's hair and gently tickled her eyelashes. When he saw those delicate eyebrows furrow slightly, he stopped immediately, afraid of truly waking her up.
"If only you could be this obedient usually."
In the room filled with moonlight, Ka'er whispered to himself gently.
The next day, when Qiao Suisui woke up, it was already past noon. She ate the nutrient meal Ka'er had gotten from somewhere and wanted to reply to Luka and the others, but heard Ka'er say gloomily from the side: "I've already reported to your several pet husbands. They were already on their way here last night."
This was a star system far from the Federation; Ka'er's breaking device could arrive in an instant, but Luka and the others couldn't.
Qiao Suisui heard the words "pet husbands," her face flushed, and she glared at him: "Don't talk nonsense."
"What? Not true? Then that beating I took a few days ago was for nothing; none of them have been officially confirmed yet, but their faces all look as if they are already the first spouse."
This was said with sarcasm, and Qiao Suisui couldn't tell for a moment whether he was scolding them or himself. So she coughed twice and changed the subject: "Can't you just take me back directly? It'll take them a night to get here."
Fine, fine, you know how to care for them, but you don't know how to care for him?
"Do I look like your private flying ship?"
Qiao Suisui choked, realizing that from yesterday until now, she hadn't thanked Ka'er. It was he who saved her at the critical moment, and it was he who sent her for a physical examination at the first opportunity and took care of her from the side. She had to admit, her view of Ka'er had changed. She had always thought he was cynical, but she hadn't expected him to be actually very reliable.
"Why are you always like this?"
"Like what?" Ka'er raised his eyebrows, looking at her with a smile.
"Clearly you do things very seriously and meticulously, and your heart is good, but you want to make others think you... you..."
Ka'er leaned toward her, his deep voice carrying a pleasant lilt: "Think I what?"
"... are a bad egg."
After she finished speaking, she bit her lip, a bit embarrassed to have said her inner thoughts out loud.
Unexpectedly, Ka'er didn't get angry, but instead laughed out loud while lying on her bed.
When he had laughed enough, he propped his chin and looked at Qiao Suisui, tapped her forehead with two fingers together, and said in a tone of teaching a child: "Because if others discover your good side, they will always expect your good side. I don't want to bear anyone's expectations."
After Ka'er finished speaking, his eyes looked straight at Qiao Suisui, his eyes full of the lingering heat after restraint. He gradually stopped smiling, his expression became somewhat serious, and he looked up at her: "But there is one person, I've started to expect her to understand the real me. I want to tell her, I'm not that good, but I'm also not that bad."
Qiao Suisui was stunned, crashing into his fiery eyes without any defense.
She wasn't a fool; after that hot pot, she could be sure Ka'er liked her, but she hadn't considered him at all, only feeling he was very annoying. At this moment, she opened her mouth to say something to politely refuse, but saw the other person suddenly stand up, then sit lazily on the chair, returning to his usual rogue-handsome look.
"You don't think the person I was talking about is you, do you?"
Qiao Suisui was stunned, looking at this man whose eyes were bright and who was raising his eyebrows and smiling wickedly, her ears turned red and hot, truly thinking she had misinterpreted.
Ka'er looked at her little appearance and felt she was incredibly cute. He stretched out his arm and flicked her forehead; it didn't hurt or itch, but it left Qiao Suisui dazed.
"You help me pass a message to that person, tell her she doesn't need to have any burden. I like what I like; tell her she doesn't need to care about my feelings, but also don't refuse me."
