Chapter 45: The More Expensive the Car, the Longer the Passenger

~6 min read 1,135 words

"Xiaoxian, what's this?"

Surprised, Zhang Pandi felt more moved than anything—her younger brother had always been there to mooch meals and money, but now he was giving her gifts, and such expensive ones at that.

"I made money—I've got to spend it."

Zhang Xian shrugged: "You're a single dog—no boyfriend to buy you gifts."

"You don't need to say that last part!"

Zhang Pandi stuck out her tongue; if it weren't for the LV brand, she'd have punched him already.

"And this too."

"Take it!"

Zhang Xian pulled out a brand-new Apple phone from the car.

His fifth sister Zhang Pandi's phone had been used for three years already; now that he was doing well, he had to get her a new one.

"Ah!"

"A phone too!"

Zhang Pandi hadn't even recovered from the surprise of the LV bag when another gift came.

"Have you eaten yet?"

"If you have, still come eat with me and Zhaodi!"

After spending nearly three hours at SKP, Zhang Xian was hungry again, so he dragged Zhang Pandi out for a meal—though that wasn't his main goal; he wanted to invite his long-legged sister Lan Qiaoqiao along too.

His relationship with Chu Yourong was nearly over—he needed to find his next target; that's called preparing for the future!

Lan Qiaoqiao was perfect: a top student at Medical University, a long-legged sister standing 175 cm tall. Forget her looks—just those legs alone could inspire endless possibilities!

"Qiaoqiao-sister, come with us—before, you always treated me; today, it's my turn!"

Zhang Xian extended the invitation smoothly.

"Sure!"

"Then I'm going to pick the most expensive dishes!"

Lan Qiaoqiao laughed and agreed.

"Xiaoxian, wait downstairs for a bit—I'll go upstairs with Qiaoqiao to change clothes."

Zhang Pandi and Lan Qiaoqiao had nothing to do in the afternoon; even though they'd eaten in the cafeteria, that didn't stop them from going out for a big meal.

"Hurry up—I'm hungry, Zhaodi's waiting!"

Zhang Xian pointed at Zhang Zhaodi, sipping a milk tea in the front passenger seat; this reminder was essential—otherwise, if they started doing makeup or whatever, it'd take at least an hour.

"Alright, we'll be right down."

Zhang Pandi replied and went upstairs with Lan Qiaoqiao.

Once inside the dorm building, Lan Qiaoqiao couldn't help asking: "Is Xiaoxian really doing well? Looks like writing songs pays big!"

"I don't even know how much he made—I'll ask him later. 'Apple Fragrance' and 'Decent' were both huge hits; he must've made a fortune."

Last time she went home, Zhang Pandi was too busy chasing stars and got along well with Chu Yourong, but forgot to ask her dad how much profit 'Apple Fragrance' had brought in.

"'Decent' is really amazing—but could Xiaoxian have written this song because he broke up?"

"I've seen online too—everyone says Chu Yourong only sang 'Decent' so well because she broke up!"

Lan Qiaoqiao speculated with a gossiping grin.

"Uh, no way!"

Zhang Pandi was shocked—Chu Yourong came to our house just last time I went home.

Plus, they even took wedding photos—they wouldn't break up, right?

"I just think 'Decent' feels too personal."

"Quick, check what Xiaoxian gave you—is it an LV bag?"

Lan Qiaoqiao changed the subject.

Zhang Pandi eagerly pulled the dust bag from the shopping bag: "Yes, it's a bag!"

She opened the dust bag—inside was a classic large LV handbag.

The bag's advantage is its large capacity—it's practical, perfect for students like Zhang Pandi: fits books, study supplies, even work uniforms for clinical practice.

"I never realized Xiaoxian was this thoughtful."

"If I'd known earlier, I should've gone after him—then we could've been lifelong best friends!"

Lan Qiaoqiao chuckled.

"Pfft~!"

"I told you long ago—you should've gone for Xiaoxian!"

Zhang Pandi stuck out her tongue; they'd actually discussed this before, but back then Zhang Xian was just a poor college student—even though he was good-looking, Lan Qiaoqiao, whose parents were civil servants, had looked down on him.

The civil servant circle? Some are laid-back, but status competition runs deep, and connections matter enormously.

Lan Qiaoqiao's mother was the type who pretended to be aloof but was truly snobbish; raised under that influence, Lan Qiaoqiao had high standards—her ideal boyfriend had to be tall, rich, and handsome, or else she'd never have stayed single this long.

Previous Zhang Xian was too poor—he didn't meet her standards.

Now, Zhang Xian actually looked like he fit the tall-rich-handsome mold.

Lan Qiaoqiao quickly applied light makeup, swapped her casual hospital scrubs for a denim short skirt, fully showcasing her long legs.

By the time they stepped out of the dorm building, half an hour had passed.

Zhang Xian had already returned to the car, scrolling through online posts about 'Decent'—after a day's buzz, 'Decent' had officially exploded in popularity.

Yesterday it was #1 on the New Song Chart; today it shot to #1 on the Hot Song Chart!

Add to that #1 on the Soaring Chart, and 'Decent' had achieved triple chart-topping status in just one day!

In three words: it's killing everything.

And this popularity wasn't just reflected on music app charts, but also on social media platforms like Douyin.

While scrolling through Douyin, Zhang Xian would encounter a cover of "Tiemian" as background music every few videos, and there were so many versions he couldn't count them all.

"Xiaoxian, they're out."

As Zhang Xian was focused on his phone, Zhang Zhaodi spoke up to remind him.

Zhang Xian instinctively looked up and glanced over, then his eyes went wide.

So white, so long—everywhere he looked, nothing but legs!

This kind of visual impact couldn't be had from scrolling Douyin.

"Zhaodi, go sit in the back."

Zhang Xian quickly told Zhang Zhaodi, who was sitting in the front passenger seat.

"Why?"

Zhang Zhaodi looked at him suspiciously.

"Don't ask. Tomorrow I'll take you for pizza!"

"Great! Great!"

Zhang Zhaodi nodded eagerly and quickly moved from the front passenger seat to the back row.

Zhang Xian got out of the car with a smile, then opened the front passenger door with gentlemanly courtesy: "Qiaoqiao, please get in!"

"Wow, this service is quite thoughtful."

Lan Qiaoqiao smiled sweetly and stepped into the front passenger seat.

And just as Zhang Xian had imagined, once she entered the front seat, the visual impact of her long, slender legs intensified even more.

Zhang Xian had previously heard people say: the more expensive the car, the whiter and longer the legs in the front passenger seat!

It seemed this saying held some truth.

"Xiaoxian, this car must be expensive—the interior is so beautiful!"

Like most girls, Lan Qiaoqiao didn't know much about cars; she only recognized luxury brands like BMW, Benz, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce.

"Not expensive—just over four hundred thousand."

Zhang Xian replied casually, but the word "just" made it sound perfectly clever.
