Chapter 62: Even an Old Man Must Protect Himself

~7 min read 1,241 words

"Old Zhang really spoils his kid!"

"Spoiling a child is like killing him! If this keeps up, little Xian is ruined!"

"A 1.68-million-yuan sports car—he just bought it outright! Old Zhang really has too much money and doesn't know where to spend it!"

"How much money do you think Old Zhang made? He spent over two million just on the car!"

"I bet he's already spent it all—he's been famous for only a few days, just made a quick buck."

"Exactly! Online fame is just a passing trend; a few days ago you could always see 'Apple Fragrance,' now you can't find it at all!"

After Zhang Xian left, the others began to gossip bitterly again.

But Wang Shulan couldn't sit still—she quietly exited the group chat and hurried toward the Zhang family home.

Now she regretted it down to her gut: back when Zhang Dongshan had shown interest in her, she'd despised the Zhang family for being too poor and never gave him an opening.

But now Zhang Dongshan had gone viral—he spent over two million just on a car! What kind of family is this? Even if he doesn't earn as much later, it's still beyond the reach of an ordinary household.

At this moment, Wang Shulan had made up her mind—she had to land Zhang Dongshan, no more waiting!

"Zhaodi, is your dad home?"

Zhang Zhaodi was playing with the little yellow dog "Weier" in the courtyard when Wang Shulan smiled and asked.

"He is."

"Zhaodi, could you help Aunt Wang buy two buckets of laundry detergent at the supermarket? Keep the change and buy the dog some sausages."

Saying this, Wang Shulan pulled out a fifty-yuan bill and handed it to Zhang Zhaodi.

"Oh, okay."

Zhang Zhaodi didn't think of taking advantage—she was just naturally kind-hearted; she took the money and headed to the supermarket.

After sending her off, Wang Shulan rushed into the house and shut the door behind her.

At this moment, Zhang Dongshan was calibrating his livestream equipment, preparing to go live, when Wang Shulan barged into his room.

"Shulan, what are you doing here?"

Zhang Dongshan eyed Wang Shulan suspiciously—her sudden appearance at this hour was unusual.

"Big Brother Dongshan, we're both at this age—I'll be straight with you."

"You're raising Xian and Zhaodi alone—it's hard. Why don't we just live together? I'll be your wife!"

"I can help take care of Xian and Zhaodi, and if you want another child, I'm still young enough to have one—don't believe me? Look, I'm still quite..."

Wang Shulan was in her forties; theoretically, she still had fertility potential.

As she spoke, she began unbuttoning her shirt.

Seeing this, Zhang Dongshan froze—two months ago, he would've happily agreed, but now it was different—he had someone he loved!

Chen Huan was not only younger than Wang Shulan, but also far more beautiful and attractive, and she could even help him with his career.

Compared to her, Wang Shulan had zero advantages.

"Shulan, don't do this!"

"Let's talk properly!"

Zhang Dongshan waved his hands frantically, instinctively backing toward the door, then pushed at it to leave—only to find the door was locked from the outside.

"Big Brother Dongshan, I sent Zhaodi out, and Xian isn't home—you don't have to worry!"

At this moment, Wang Shulan only wanted to make things irreversible—she lunged straight at Zhang Dongshan.

"No!"

"Shulan, use some sense!"

Zhang Dongshan shoved her away, saw the window was open, quickly climbed onto the windowsill, and jumped out into the courtyard.

"Dad, what's going on?"

Zhang Xian, just entering the courtyard, looked utterly bewildered.

His father had a door, so why was he climbing out the window?

"Xian, you're back just in time."

"Next time, come home earlier—don't be so late!"

Seeing his son, Zhang Dongshan sighed with relief.

With someone home, Wang Shulan wouldn't dare act out again.

"Dad, why on earth did you jump out the window?"

"Did a thief break in?"

Zhang Xian craned his neck to peek into his father's room—and saw Wang Shulan adjusting her clothes.

"Uh, this..."

Zhang Xian remembered that just moments ago, Wang Shulan had been at the alley entrance—how had she gotten into his father's room so fast?

"Dad, aren't you into Huan Jie?"

"What's going on here?"

Zhang Xian whispered to his father, stepping close.

"Wang Shulan is lusting after me—and she locked the door! I was so scared I had to jump out the window."

Zhang Dongshan whispered back.

"Isn't this exactly what you wanted?"

Zhang Xian teased with a grin.

"Get lost!"

Zhang Dongshan glared at his brat: "My heart belongs only to your Huan Aunt!"

"Don't you dare tell Huan Jie about this—I'm afraid she'll misunderstand."

"What?"

"You're going to buy me an alien computer?"

Zhang Xian stared at his father in shock—keeping such a big secret meant he needed a new computer that wouldn't lag while gaming.

"Buy it! Buy it! Buy it!"

Zhang Dongshan waved his hand helplessly, speechless.

Just as the father and son whispered quietly, Wang Shulan stepped out of the house, acting as if nothing had happened, smiling warmly at Zhang Xian: "Xiaoxian, you're back? Did you park the car?"

"Be careful parking such an expensive car—don't let anyone scratch it!"

"I heard the parking lot at the alley entrance has surveillance and someone watching."

Zhang Xian replied, then asked with a teasing tone: "Aunt Wang, it's so late—do you have something on your mind?"

"Nothing important—some relatives want your dad's autograph."

Wang Shulan made up an excuse.

"Have you signed them yet?"

"Shall you two keep going?"

"I've signed them all—I'm heading back now!"

Wang Shulan knew today was hopeless; she gave Zhang Dongshan a resentful look, then strode out of the Zhang Family home.

Just as she reached the courtyard gate, she met Zhang Zhaodi returning from buying laundry detergent.

"Aunt Wang, here's your laundry detergent. I bought two sausages for Weier—here's the change!"

Zhang Zhaodi handed all the laundry detergent and the change to Wang Shulan.

"This child even saved me money—so thoughtful!"

Wang Shulan praised her, then hurried off with the detergent.

"Aunt Wang's plan was thorough—she even sent Zhaodi away."

"Dad, you've got to protect yourself from now on!"

Zhang Xian chuckled.

"If you'd come home earlier, this wouldn't have happened!"

Zhang Dongshan shot his son a look: "By the way, what car did Wang Shulan mention? Your new one?"

"Yeah, you said yesterday you wanted a sports car, so I went and bought one."

"Yangwang U9—it's pretty cool. Want to try it out?"

"You bought it already?"

Zhang Dongshan's lip twitched—he hadn't expected his son to act so fast. He still didn't want Zhang Xian wasting money; the wedding house wasn't even bought yet!

"I've wanted that car for a long time."

"Since everyone supports me, why not buy it?"

Zhang Xian shrugged with a smile, silently thinking to himself: The longer you wait, the more things can go wrong!

"Xiaoxian, earning money isn't easy—you still need to be frugal."

"Even though you've written two pretty popular songs now, inspiration is unpredictable. What if you can't write good songs again? Earning money won't be so easy then."

Zhang Dongshan frowned, giving a solemn warning.

Hearing this, Zhang Xian grinned: "Speaking of writing songs, I wrote another one these past two days—I think it's perfect for you."

"Dad, check it out!"

Saying this, Zhang Xian sent his father the long-accumulated "Song of the Ordinary."
