Chapter 114: Discovering the Wolf Clan's Treasure
Ji Lei discovered that his eyes were becoming increasingly sharp, able to even locate the hidden person on that big tree.
Ying's expression was cold, then he bent down and grabbed the man who had been shot down; his eyes were blood‑red, "Speak, where are Rongdi and Nan Qinghuan?"
The tribesman, clearly a Half-beast from the Rongdi Tribe, clutched his bleeding belly in pain, "Chief, the chief took that female back to the tribe."
Hearing this, Dashan hurried forward and kicked the man's butt, "Shut up, how could Omu go back with Rongdi?"
How could that be? He kept saying he would rely on his own female, yet he turned and followed Rongdi? "It's true. You all know the chief likes that female. Last time he tried to trade ten wild boars for her, Ying you refused, so the chief kept making advances on her. Now I've heard you threw her here; for the chief that's a good opportunity, and he certainly won't let it go."
The words sounded flawless and confirmed that Nan Qinghuan had fled with someone; Dashan and Ji Lei were disappointed in Nan Qinghuan. Ji Lei let out a deep sigh, looked at Ying, "Forget it, let's go back. Ying, forget Nan Qinghuan; she is now Rongdi's female."
"Shut up."
Ying inhaled deeply as if digesting the bad news, but soon he grinned, tossed the wounded man aside, "Rongdi thought that by deceiving me like this, I'd believe them?"
When those words were spoken, the Na Shan Tribe member seemed very disappointed; he was bleeding, yet his astonishing willpower kept him from collapsing. His purpose was to make Ying believe Nan Qinghuan was in the Na Shan Tribe.
"You, you don't believe?"
How could this be, he actually doesn't believe? Ying sneered, a strange line crossing his handsome face, "I know better than you what my Qinghuan is like; she wouldn't follow Rongdi to the Na Shan Tribe. Even if she left, she'd only return to the Cannibal Tribe."
Throwing that aside, Ying shouted, "Dashan, Ji Lei, you go to the Cannibal Tribe to find her; I'll go into the Forest. There's a path here that leads to the Cannibal Tribe."
After giving the orders, he plunged into the Forest. Dashan and Ji Lei were stunned, exchanged a glance, and Dashan, puzzled, scratched his head, "What on earth is happening? Wasn't he just angry that Omu became Rongdi's person?"
Ji Lei, however, seemed to understand. She chuckled and looked at Ying's departing back, "Don't you get it? This man was deliberately left by Rongdi. If Rongdi truly took Nan Qinghuan away, why would they send someone to stay here and tell us they returned to the tribe?"
"This…"
Dashan suddenly had an insight, "You mean Rongdi wanted Ying to give up, so they purposely…"
I have to say, this Rongdi is extremely cunning.
Ji Lei nodded, "It should be so. According to the customs of the two peoples, as long as Nan Qinghuan goes to the Rongdi Tribe, Ying, no matter how unwilling, cannot raid the tribe to take her; that's the rule between tribes."
Rongdi's goal is exactly that, but they're wrong. Ying knows Nan Qinghuan and also knows Rongdi. If Nan Qinghuan truly went to the Rongdi Tribe, they wouldn't send someone here to tell us. According to Rongdi's nature, they'd send a wedding feast for us to drink, to mock Ying as the victor; that would be in line with Rongdi.
I must say, Ying sees through Rongdi's intentions completely, and having been by Ying's side for years, Ji Lei also sees Ying's thoughts clearly. Although Ying is angry that Nan Qinghuan prevented the tribe from marrying, what he truly cares about is not that; it's that Nan Qinghuan secretly took medicine.
He doesn't want to ruin Ying's offspring; that's the real reason for his anger.
When Dashan heard that Nan Qinghuan had nothing with Rongdi, he instantly cheered, but… "Ji Lei, did you forget the few tribespeople we met on the road? They said Rongdi actually rescued them last night and were with Omu."
Could they already be asleep?
Dashan was daydreaming, while Ji Lei, being clever, saw Ying's thoughts clearly, "Do you think Ying is a fool? Rongdi wants to protect Nan Qinghuan; Ying knows that, and Ying also believes Omu won't have anything with Rongdi, so he rushed here. He's not truly trying to punish her, just angry; now that his anger has faded, he'll go find her."
"Great, then what are we waiting for? Let's go to the Cannibal Tribe to find Omu; perhaps she has already returned to the tribe."
The tribespeople here were frantically searching for Nan Qinghuan, while Nan Qinghuan had already returned to the place she lingered last night. When she arrived beneath a tree, the birds suddenly fluttered about, as if some danger had startled them.
She was cautious; the high sun cast speckled shafts of light, and she was rummaging on the ground, soon finding… "This is it."
In her hand was a small clump of bullet‑like projectiles made by kneading some sticky stuff; indeed, last night those Wolf Clansmen used this to attack them. These tiny stones hurt when they hit a face or body.
She examined several Wolf Clansmen corpses; they wore Grass Rings on their heads, but that wasn't the point—the point was the flowers on the rings.
If she wasn't mistaken, that should be a Corn Flower.
She carefully pulled that Corn Flower from the Grass Ring to examine it, confirming it was a Corn Flower. Good heavens, what had she discovered? Some round balls made of earth, each coated with a grain she recognized.
"Corn kernels?"
She was delighted; she never expected to see living corn kernels and Corn Flowers in this Remote Antiquity Era. The corn was tiny, appearing much smaller than modern varieties.
But that was enough to overturn her understanding; she had never known that corn existed in this Remote Antiquity Era. Potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn—perhaps there were also rice and wheat she hadn't discovered yet. Once she finds them all, she can make good use of them. She could hardly imagine what kind of civilization would arise. She didn't need a Space Upgrade to obtain seeds in the Remote Antiquity Era; what could be more joyous? Since these Wolf Clansmen use corn as decoration and mix corn with mud as weapons, they must have corn within their tribe.
If she could locate those seeds, she could plant corn in the tribe. Yet, thinking further, since the Wolf Clansmen use corn as weapons, they surely haven't unlocked ways to eat it. How could she find their base? Where is the Wolf Clan's stronghold? She had to admit, this trip to the Misty Forest had revealed corn's trace, and she was more exhilarated than after a shot of chicken blood. She was about to rise and head forward to search for the Wolf Clan when suddenly… "There! Quickly surround her."
Suddenly, a group of men burst from the Forest, each gripping a copper‑colored Spear and constantly making guttural sounds. They wore Beast Skin, with a green Grass Ring on their heads—and indeed, they also had Corn Flowers atop their heads.
Just when we thought we'd searched everywhere, the Wolf Clansmen have arrived.
A few Wolf Clan savages encircled her; one savage glared at her fiercely without moving, then inspected the bodies scattered on the ground. Upon finding they were all dead, the savage, disheartened, went to report to the leading man.
"Yao, they died because of this female."
