Chapter 19: Becoming the Tribe

~4 min read 650 words

Ying's posture was upright, his whole body radiating anger; he was deeply remorseful, for if he hadn't arrived in time, his Huaner would have been burned to death by those people!

Old Clan Leader was a bit dejected, lowering his head, somewhat afraid of him, "Ying…"

"Ying, don't get angry."

Inside the Forest, A Mu, having heard the news, hurriedly ran over; learning that her son and the Old Clan Leader were angry, she quickly grabbed Ying's arm to soothe him, "Ying, you must not."

Ying, however, let out a cold snort, brushed aside A Mu's hand, "A Mu, this is my matter, you need not interfere; step back."

After saying that, his sharp eyes swept the crowd, "I am the Tribe's Clan Leader; Nan Qinghuan is my only female. I have chosen her; from now on she belongs to the Ying Tribe. Whoever dares to bully or harm her, don't blame me for being ruthless."

After speaking, he suddenly took a bronze ring from his head, then clenched it in his hand; with a snap, the ring shattered into two pieces.

Such a gesture left the tribe members too stunned to breathe; Ying was breaking the bronze to declare his resolve, and the foreign female called Nan Qinghuan would no longer be provoked.

"Ying, you're being foolish."

Old Clan Leader hadn't expected this female to be so important to him, "You broke the bronze for an outsider; all of our tribe can't bear offspring because of her. What do you propose we do?"

A Yue, covering her bleeding nose, also pressed her, "Ying, you are the Clan Leader; do you not care about the tribe's lives? Do you disregard the females that bear offspring?"

Ying, however, ignored her, then strode over to Nan Qinghuan, squatted, and gently cradled her in his arms as if she were his most precious treasure.

"Don't be afraid; I'll take you back to the cave."

Nan Qinghuan, seeing Ying offend the entire Tribe for her, felt that claiming she wasn't moved was false; she clasped his sweat‑damp neck with both hands, nestled herself in his embrace, and at that moment finally breathed a sigh of relief, no longer fearing death.

She knew that tonight Ying had opposed the whole Tribe for her, and this act suddenly moved her; she couldn't explain why, but she felt that the scruffy‑bearded barbarian wasn't as detestable as she had thought.

She clung tightly to his broad embrace; Ying, aware of her fear, deliberately reached out and patted her back, trying to soothe her terror.

When the others saw him about to leave, they all made way; Ying walked a few steps, then stopped and scanned the crowd, "Nan Qinghuan is my female, my only female. I hope everyone will treat her with the same respect I receive, understand?"

The others could only hang their heads, then raised a hand and made a strange gesture over their heads; after that, almost all the savages bowed their heads respectfully toward her.

Axi, seeing the ceremony, was overjoyed, "Congratulations, Qinghuan, you are now our Tribe's sole Oom."

"Oom?"

Nan Qinghuan poked her head out of Ying's arms; what does this mean? Is it a title? Seeing she didn't understand, Axi quickly explained, "The Clan Leader's sole female is called Oom."

A Yue's face twisted with anger; she wiped the fresh blood from her nose, looking extremely irritable, "Ying, you will regret this. The Tribe's females are scarce; they can't bear offspring and won't survive tonight. You'll just wait to be invaded by the Rongdi Tribe."

A Yue hurled those harsh words and fled like a madwoman; Old Clan Leader could only sigh helplessly, "Alas, had I known you would be like this, I would have…"

"That day I earned the Clan Leader position by defeating everyone; it wasn't you who made me, and as for those females that can't bear offspring…"
