Chapter 20: I Can Deliver Them

~4 min read 686 words

Ying's gaze was sharp and cold, but his words were ruthless: "Their bodies are too delicate; it's no wonder they can't bear offspring."

"You…"

"A Mu"

Ying glanced at A Mu; A Mu was his mother, but ultimately she was just a female of the tribe, unable to control Ying's actions nor persuade him to abandon this different‑eyed person.

Ying, with Nan Qinghuan, prepared to leave; the Clan Leader and the tribe were deeply disappointed in Ying, for he cared about an outsider female despite the tribe's lives.

Nan Qinghuan curled tightly in Ying's arms; she could feel the barbarians' gazes angrily fixed on her, their eyes sharp as barbs piercing her.

Ying took a few steps, and she suddenly lifted her head to meet his eyes, "Wait, let me go help those females give birth; perhaps I can keep mother and child safe."

At those words, Ying furrowed his brows and looked at her, "What did you say?"

A Mu and Axi also stared at her in shock, wondering what she meant by "helping with birth." Nan Qinghuan added, "Let me go help them bear offspring."

"Birth assistance" was unclear, but now they should understand, right? "Qinghuan, aside from Shamaness A Yue, no one can help them."

Axi stated the tribe's reality: even the Shamaness was powerless; Qinghuan could not help them. Even if she knew some Herbal Medicine to treat A Tu's diarrhea, she lacked the skill for childbirth.

Nan Qinghuan shook her head; she didn't believe she couldn't do it. She knew that to earn the tribe's acceptance, she must achieve something tonight.

She prayed while looking at Ying; their gazes met, and in that instant, it seemed the world vanished into nothingness.

"Ying, put me down."

Ying's sharp gaze remained fixed on her for a long time without moving. Did this petite female know what his words meant? Was she sending herself to death? He tightened his brows, his eagle‑like eyes watching the small female in his arms, and asked uncertainly, "Do you want to get down?"

She nodded to confirm; she wanted to get down, to help those pregnant women.

Ying thought for a moment and then set her down; she seemed much better now. He hurried to the Old Clan Leader, "Old Clan Leader, my eyes are inherited from my parents, I know you don't understand, and I don't expect you to, but I want to tell you I'm not the Plague God; let me go save those females bearing offspring."

When Nan Qinghuan spoke those words, the tribe sneered, looking down on her with contempt; even the Old Clan Leader dismissed her, "You? What can you save? Are you a Shaman Healer? Have you ever received instructions from the Heavenly God?"

The accusation left Nan Qinghuan speechless; she knew a few sentences wouldn't clarify things to these barbarians—it was absurd to think a Shaman Healer in this ancient age needed Heavenly God's orders. "I am not a Shaman Healer, but I am a doctor; in my place a doctor can save people. I have a method to save them. If you give me one chance, I will surely rescue those women and children."

The others didn't believe her, and Ying didn't either; how could his delicate little female save anyone? "Old Clan Leader, don't agree to her; she knows nothing. As one not of our tribe, her heart must be different; she cannot save them."

Hearing A Yue's words, Nan Qinghuan was somewhat surprised; these barbarians actually knew the saying "one not of our tribe, heart must be different." Interesting—what unknown civilization had she crossed into? A Yue still had bloodstains on her face, from being struck by Ying. She had always tried to stop Nan Qinghuan from rescuing people, and Nan Qinghuan naturally knew A Yue wouldn't agree. She sneered, "Since you are a Shaman Healer, you should have a way to save them, yet you have none now. If you have none, why won't you let me go? Are you, as a Shaman Healer, intentionally letting them die tonight? What benefit do you get from their death?"
