Chapter 1496 1496: Truck Travel

~6 min read 1,030 words

Star City

I walked into the transport company. There was a female staff member behind the help desk. I came to the help desk. I started speaking to her.

After learning that the customer wanted to go to the border city, the female staff member asked about the city's name.

"Brown Creek," I said to her.

Hearing that, the female staff member showed a doubtful expression. I saw through her thoughts.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Uhm, Brown Creek City has some problems," she replied.

"Lots of robberies are being reported. So, goods vehicles are not going to the city, except for a few," she added.

"What about you guys?" I asked.

"I have to ask the higher-ups," she replied.

Hearing that, I placed an essence stone on her desk. The essence stone was a colorless essence stone. Seeing that, the expression on the woman's face shifted.

She accepted the essence stone and put it away in her storage ring. She then took the device and phoned the manager.

When the call was connected, she started speaking to him. The manager was unwilling to let an unknown person travel in their vehicle.

He was aware of Brown Creek City's situation. They had already reduced so many vehicles. He didn't want to take any risk.

But the girl mentioned that the guest seemed to be rich. He could be from an influential family. The manager collected his thoughts.

Fortunately, the girl reminded him. He didn't want to offend the person.

He then asked the girl about the young man's identity. The girl then turned toward the guest.

When the girl asked about my identity, I showed my badge to her. When she saw the badge of Star University, she was shocked to the core.

She didn't expect the guest to be from Star University. She then relayed the identity to the manager.

The manager on the other side of the call was stunned. He was so close to offending the wrong person. The whole Star City comes under the direct control of Star University.

If someone wants to travel to other areas of the Star University Territory, then it is likely for a mission.

The manager then agreed to let the young man travel in their goods vehicle free of cost. Hearing that, the female staff member smiled and ended the call.

"Young Master, the manager gave you permission to travel free of cost. We have a goods truck that is going to leave shortly."

"It's going to stop by Brown Creek on the route. You can travel in the truck. If you miss this truck, then you will have to wait until tomorrow morning," the female staff member said.

Hearing that, I decided to travel by truck.

Time passed.

When it was time for the truck to leave, I sat down in the passenger seat. The truck departed from Star City.

Swoosh!

The truck was flying fast in the mid air. If the speed continued, the truck would reach Brown Creek City tomorrow morning.

The driver was an old man. He was not very talkative. Instead, he was quiet and focused on the driving task.

Seeing that the old man was sincere, I didn't disturb him. At the same time, I decided to stay vigilant.

I had exposed my whereabouts. If the foreign creatures and other hostile forces were still after me, then they could easily track me anywhere.

A cold glint flashed in my eyes.

Time passed.

Nighttime came, and the driver slowed down his speed. Right now, the truck entered a different route. It was going to reach Brown Creek City tomorrow morning.

The atmosphere was quiet. There were no flying vehicles ahead of or behind us. The truck was traveling alone. I saw a change in the expression of the old man.

Seeing that, I was stunned. I was the one who should be careful, yet the old man was behaving differently.

"What happened?"

"If you have any problem, you can tell me," I said to the old man.

Hearing that, the old man collected his thoughts. He recalled the young man's identity. The staff had told him that the young man was from Star University.

He said, "Young Master, we often encounter robberies on this route. The robbers only target lonesome trucks."

"Don't worry, I will handle them," I replied.

The old man sighed in relief. It calmed his heart.

In the nighttime, only the headlamps from the moving truck were the source of light.

Buzz!

Then, we both saw two vehicles blocking the path ahead. Seeing that, the old man's face changed drastically.

"They are here." After saying that, he paused the truck.

My eyes turned cold.

"Did you encounter them before?" I asked.

"Usually, there are people who collect tolls. Recently, blatant looting has been going on. Now, I have encountered it for the first time," the old man said.

"Alright, I'll take care of them. You stay here." After saying that, I exited the truck.

I stood in mid-air using my flight ability. Then, I started moving toward the vehicles in front of me. I quickly reached the spot.

The old man didn't turn off the engine. The headlamps were still casting light.

Creak!

From the vehicles, four warriors stepped outside. Three of them were Gold Mark Warriors. One of them was a Purple Mark Warrior.

They saw my face and saw through my strength. They saw my Gold Mark Warrior strength as well.

They didn't recognize my face, so they showed disdain on their faces.

"Hey, who are you?"

"Show us your wealth. If you hand over your valuables, then you will be spared along with the driver," one of the Gold Mark Warriors said.

The Purple Mark Warrior was an old man. He looked lean and weak, but the strength of the old man was no joke. A powerful pressure emanated from his body.

Then, I thought of something and asked, "Who are you guys working for?"

Hearing that, the Gold Mark Warriors were taken aback. The Purple Mark Warrior old man was shocked. He raised his eyes and looked at me.

They didn't expect to hear such a question from me.
