Chapter 138: Jellyfish Swarm

~7 min read 1,211 words

Lu Xingchen stood frozen, dumbfounded—how had someone stolen his RV amid all the chaos?

Zzzzz~

On the other side of the street, seeing Qiu Long dead, the other bandits scattered in all directions—some sprinted to vehicles and plunged into the horde, others ran straight toward the truck.

Tap-tap-tap!

The tide turned; Xu Jin and Shu Qin’s group mercilessly mowed down the fleeing remnants with bullets.

The purple-haired woman on the heavy truck saw this and knew disaster was imminent; she scrambled into the driver’s seat, locked the doors, and frantically prepared to flee.

Lin Xian, closest to her, realized she was trying to escape and immediately charged electricity into his hands, ready to eliminate the threat.

Then a voice crackled through the radio: “Captain Lin, fall back!”

“Huh?”

Lin Xian frowned, turned his head—and saw the launch rack on the Iron Force convoy flare to life again. His face paled instantly; without a word, he bolted away.

Whoosh! Whoosh!!

Two missiles shot out of the rack, hurtling toward the truck.

“No! Don’t!!”

Death loomed; the purple-haired woman’s pupils dilated, her face drained of all color.

BOOM!!

The missiles struck the front directly; a massive shockwave erupted, even shaking Lin Xian to his core.

Lin Xian crashed to the ground, covered in snow-dust; the truck’s cab was utterly obliterated—the purple-haired woman vanished without a trace.

“Too brutal. Only heavy artillery delivers!”

With that threat eliminated, Lin Xian finally exhaled. Around him, zombies surged forward; he turned to retreat—when Lu Xingchen rushed up, frantic.

“What are you doing?!” Lin Xian blocked him.

“My car! My car!!” Lu Xingchen’s face had turned green—not only had his car been stolen, but his stylish outfit had been burned off; now a cold wind blew through him, making him shiver violently.

Lin Xian turned and looked—his RV had already vanished around several blocks, gone in a flash.

Under these conditions, unless he could fly, there was no way he could catch up.

And from the battle just now, he clearly didn’t have that ability.

On the Fire God RV, a fat man’s face was pale with terror; he gritted his teeth and stomped the accelerator, carving through the zombie horde. He glanced in the rearview mirror, saw the vehicle packed with supplies, and felt a little relieved.

Good thing he ran fast—never expected the Black Crow quartet, such ruthless bastards, to be wiped out clean by that train convoy.

“Turns out everyone who made it to Yubei City is no pushover. Lucky I got away in time!”

Zhou Lei sped on, the fog ahead gradually clearing, thick mist rising into the sky. He planned to find another route out of the city—or wait until this group left before entering the airport. Either way, he’d stay far away. Now he had a modified RV—he had a chance to rebuild. At least his life was safe.

Zhou Lei marveled at how many times he’d escaped death—clearly thanks to his uncanny ability to read the moment. Thinking of it, even he was impressed with himself.

Just as he sighed in relief, the cabin’s lights suddenly dimmed.

He looked up—nothing but zombies ahead. Confused, he slowly raised his gaze.

Suddenly, his pupils shrank; his face turned ashen.

Above the clouds, a monstrous entity slowly drifted toward him!

“AAAAAHHHH!!”

A scream echoed from the RV, piercing the sky.

On the other side, Lin Xian’s group, having eliminated the Black Crow quartet, hurried back to their vehicles.

Through the radio, Shu Qin screamed: “We have to go—something’s in the sky!!”

Above, a colossal jellyfish slowly revealed its terrifying form; every member of the convoy paled.

Unlike the one they’d seen on Dalaoshan, this one was noticeably smaller—but still, its size dwarfed skyscrapers, drawing a collective gasp. Lin Xian immediately ordered the train: “Hurry! Everyone onboard, prepare to depart!”

A massive tide of zombies surged in—no time to loot. The Infinite Train fired up, bursting through the horde; the following convoy engines roared to life, following in its wake.

“Night’s falling—stay alert!” Xu Jin’s voice came through.

“Look! Another one over there!” Kiki added. Far to the left of the train, another giant jellyfish emerged.

“Oh my god, so many! So terrifying!!”

Meanwhile, the survivors in Xu Jin and Shu Qin’s convoy, including Lao Mo’s group, all froze in terror; every vehicle locked its windows and doors.

Mothers hiding in trucks and buses clamped hands over their children’s screaming mouths; a crushing dread descended.

Zzzzz~

Countless wheels rolled, smashing through the zombie horde, following the Infinite Train forward.

The battle had shattered the barbed-wire fence; countless zombies poured through like fish through a net, chasing after the convoy.

Inside the “Infinite Train”

In Car 1, a bare-chested youth sat slumped in the corner, eyes vacant, expression shattered.

!

Lu Xingchen.

Since fleeing east, this was his first time suffering such a catastrophic loss.

His home had been stolen. Any normal person would be stunned.

“Lin Brother, should we take him with us?”

In the cockpit, Shasha approached quietly and asked.

Lin Xian turned and looked back. “Help him out—he lost his car and has nowhere else to go. Shasha, find him some clothes.”

Lu Xingchen was no longer the carefree man sipping tea under his sunshade at the freight terminal. Lin Xian even felt the light had gone from his eyes…

This guy was genuinely pitiful…

Though his personality was odd and a bit melodramatic, he’d fought alongside the convoy. Since he was one of them, Lin Xian had no problem lending a hand.

Lin Xian stared at the monstrous thing in the sky, picked up the radio, and warned: “Don’t fire at these jellyfish—avoid triggering a chain reaction.”

“They’ve definitely spotted us,” Shu Qin said.

“Just keep moving!”

“Everyone, stay close—don’t fall behind!”

The train accelerated; the following convoy roared to catch up. Due to track irregularities, some low-clearance vehicles struggled to keep pace, scraping sparks off the rails.

Zzzzz!!

A deep, ship-horn-like wail echoed from the sky; everyone looked up to see a colossal sky jellyfish approaching the convoy.

As it drew nearer, Lin Xian and Chen Sixuan could clearly see the swaying tentacles dangling in the air.

“It’s coming!”

Chen Sixuan cried out in terror.

Lin Xian took a deep breath and radioed: “Everyone, prepare to fire—don’t let those tentacles touch you!!”

On Dalaoshan, the train’s armor had been warped by just a brush from a tentacle; the night raiders had vanished without a trace. Those tentacles were lethal. Now the convoy had entered the city; the airport base was visible ahead. This was no time to hesitate—only a desperate sprint would do.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!!

Hearing Lin Xian’s order, the rear Iron Force convoy launched three missiles at the jellyfish—striking its central tentacles.

BOOM! BOOM!

Two explosions flared; high above, the jellyfish’s massive translucent bell rippled violently. Several giant tentacles snapped off, plummeting from the sky, trailing clouds of grayish-transparent fluid.

Plop!

Some massive tentacles crashed onto rooftops; others landed among the zombie horde, triggering a horrifying sizzling sound. Thick white mist rose in waves.

Those tentacles were highly toxic!
