Chapter 42: Advanced Insect Transformation
Under the thick fog, the T34 outpost was reduced to a hell on earth, the black cobra convoy dead or dying, zombies and monsters mingling with the screams of survivors.
The corpse tide, internal clashes, mutinies, and chaos turned those confused convoys into headless flies, instantly swallowed by the corpse tide and bullets.
Fatty led his men without lingering; after eliminating the remaining combatants of the black cobra convoy, he seized Qian Yu’s large truck, his men took over several supply vehicles, and with their original fleet, they fired up their engines and charged through the horde.
Feng Yuming had now transformed into his half-insect monster form, radiating boundless malice; he stepped forward, picked up Qian Yu’s pistol, and fired—bang! bang!—killing two fleeing survivors at random, then walked toward the platform.
Tang Hai, watching his men gain the upper hand, had not yet relaxed when his face suddenly paled; he pointed toward the courtyard and shouted.
“Watch out—it’s that mist spider!”
No sooner had the words left his mouth than several survivors who had been fighting desperately felt the zombie horde ahead suddenly clear; before they could react, a giant spider appeared in the mist beneath the lights, and a claw as tall as a skyscraper came down from above!
Splat!
In an instant, two survivors were pierced clean through the chest.
“Aaaah!!”
“Run!”
Screams of terror erupted everywhere.
Tang Hai turned pale with fear, scrambled up into the freight locomotive car, and yelled to his men, “Yuming, hurry, get on board—we’re leaving!”
Taptaptap! Taptaptap!
Vrrrm!
From within the corpse tide, a pickup truck suddenly burst out, racing up the slope toward the railway tracks—as if planning to escape along the rails.
“Take them out!”
Tang Hai saw this, his face darkened, and roared instantly.
At that moment, a dark shadow charged out and slammed into the pickup from the side—CRASH! The immense force sent the modified truck spinning out of control, flipping over!
“Aaaah!!”
Sha Sha screamed; in the blink of an eye, Lou Ye grabbed his sister, yanked open the door, and rolled out—while their vehicle tumbled down the slope.
“Where do you think you’re going?!”
Feng Yuming emerged again from the mist, sneering, raising his claw to stab directly at Lou Ye.
But Lou Ye suddenly rose, seized his insect claw, grunted, and hurled Feng Yuming clean away!
Taptaptap!
Another burst of bullets came; Lou Ye immediately dove toward Sha Sha on the ground, but a stray bullet pierced his shoulder.
“Brother!”
Sha Sha, eyes red with tears, cried out and scrambled up to grab a gun and return fire.
But Lou Ye had no time to cry out—he grabbed Sha Sha, braved the hail of bullets, and sprinted down the slope; below, almost no survivors remained, only a dense, surging tide of corpses!!
Feng Yuming’s gunmen were also retreating toward the platform, firing bullets as if they had no cost.
“Such strength—but still a low-level trash!”
A cold, arrogant voice rang out; a black spike erupted strangely from the mist—Lou Ye had no time to dodge and raised his arm to block.
Splat!
The black spike pierced straight through his arm; with the massive impact, Lou Ye didn’t even grunt—he spun and kicked backward into the black mist, the force so great it whipped up a gust of wind!
Boom!
It felt like hitting a wall—Feng Yuming stepped forward slowly; Lou Ye’s full-power kick had been caught bare-handed—with his unaltered hand!
He smirked with disdain: “You brute with limbs but no brains—you probably don’t even know killing an adept or a weird entity grants evolution. Too bad… you won’t get the chance.”
Feng Yuming pulled back the black spike, twisted his wrist—and crimson light glowed upon it. “Die!”
“Brother! Watch out!” Sha Sha shrieked.
Bang!
At that moment, Feng Yuming sensed a chill—he tilted his head slightly—and his left ear exploded instantly, blood staining half his face, making him look even colder and more terrifying.
Yet he acted as if nothing had happened, snorted coldly, and vanished again into the black mist.
Puff! Puff! Puff!
Instantly, several wind spears struck from behind the platform; several of Tang Hai’s gunmen who hadn’t reacted dropped dead on the spot.
“Watch your backs!!”
Tang Hai shouted; all his gunmen immediately scrambled into the passenger cars, seeking cover and preparing defenses.
The searchlight pierced through the mist; Sha Sha, now aware, looked down at the surging corpse tide and the giant spider looming overhead, wiped away her tears, and pulled Lou Ye up, shouting:
“Brother, we have to go!”
Behind a green stone on the platform’s rear, Lin Xian stood drenched in exhausted sweat, gasping heavily—his Mechanical Heart had operated nonstop for nearly nine hours, draining his essence completely.
“I knew you two were hiding somewhere, huh? Trying to profit from others’ chaos—you really think having an ability makes you special?”
!
Feng Yuming appeared like a ghost, his voice echoing from near and far; the next instant, Lin Xian felt a cold wind sweep through the mist ahead—he instinctively fired a wind spear forward.
Boom!
It struck like metal; Lin Xian’s pupils shrank—he leapt straight up from where he stood!
At the same moment, Feng Yuming exploded forward, his claw slamming into the green stone Lin Xian had just hidden behind—shattering not only the stone but the entire massive slab.
His assault didn’t pause—he lunged swiftly toward Lin Xian’s new position, stabbing relentlessly.
“Interesting—you’ve both close combat and ranged abilities. I’ve never seen such a strange combination.”
Lin Xian felt like facing a deadly foe; hearing Feng Yuming’s words, he was suddenly chilled.
This guy must have killed more than one adept—he’s been hiding all along; clearly, this uncle-nephew pair have done plenty of murder and plunder!
Wu!
A piercing sound rang out—a giant, hairy spider leg descended from above, forcing both Lin Xian and Feng Yuming to recoil violently.
Taptaptap! At the same time, Tang Hai’s gunmen began their assault—some firing at the mist spider, others targeting Lin Xian.
Lin Xian was attacked from three sides, with no time to react—he rolled on the spot and leapt off the platform, diving beneath the train.
Feng Yuming watched Lin Xian’s movements, realizing his extreme weakness; he sneered and rushed after him immediately, while the two sharp spines on his head trembled constantly—as if sensing something.
“Where’s that girl? If she doesn’t show herself now, you won’t get another chance!”
Feng Yuming had been guarding against Kiki’s strike all along; Lin Xian’s heart tightened—he realized this man’s ability level and combat experience far exceeded his expectations!
The corpse tide drew near, the mist spider loomed overhead—Feng Yuming knew the situation was about to spiral out of control; he stopped probing, lunged forward in a flash, and his black claw suddenly elongated, aiming to deliver a fatal strike at Lin Xian beneath the train.
“Are you looking for me?!”
Just then, a light, clear voice rang out. Feng Yuming, mid-strike, shot a glance like lightning—he knew Kiki’s power and instantly froze his motion, reflexively sidestepping.
But the expected attack never came; Feng Yuming and Tang Hai turned toward the sound—and saw the searchlight on the 1130 CIWS bunker suddenly flare to life. Whooo~! A hidden electric hum sounded; the gun mount rotated precisely, and eleven 30mm cannon barrels, radiating a hellish aura, activated their fire-control radar and electro-optical targeting systems…
This long-dormant anti-aircraft weapon had awakened—quietly, at last!
