Chapter 43: Close-In Weapon System (Third Chapter Update, Requesting Monthly Votes)
“Impossible!!!”
Tang Hai, seeing this scene, was completely stunned and cried out in panic, “How can this thing still activate?!!”
Feng Yuming was also frozen in place, for he saw the electro-optical sensor of the CIWS now sweeping toward him—in that instant, a ludicrous thought surged violently in his mind.
Is this thing meant to be aimed at people?!
At that moment, inside the combat information room beneath the air raid shelter, Kiki sat before the CIWS control system that Lin Xian had successfully repaired and self-tested, quickly circling several heat targets, then gently tapped the microphone in front of her, cleared her throat, and spoke into the broadcast.
“A few shitty bastards, bye-bye~”
Then she pressed the fire button.
Wuuuuu~~~~!
Duddududu…
The next instant, a nerve-shattering barrage of cannon fire echoed across the sky, the violent flashes illuminating half the platform—this anti-aircraft weapon, capable of firing 10,000 rounds per minute, now aimed its barrels at the advancing horde of corpses, the massive fog spider, and… Feng Yuming!
“Shit!”
Feng Yuming watched the barrel rapidly lock onto him, his heart plummeted—he tried raising his Black Claw to block it, but in an instant, his entire body was obliterated into a mist of blood, and the ground beneath him was instantly vaporized into a massive crater!
Dwooong!!!!!!
Gong Gong Gong!
The nerve-shattering rapid-fire cannon sound tore through the sky; the horde of corpses surging down the slope was instantly swept clean like rain off a windshield—the firepower swept across a fan-shaped arc and turned them all into shredded meat!
Hundreds upon thousands of zombies were reduced to a bloody rain of limbs, flying everywhere!
Beneath the CIWS was a maintenance shaft containing a large subsystem for power and ammunition supply, directly adjacent to the arsenal’s generator unit—Lin Xian had devoured that large generator because he discovered the system was only partially damaged; he only needed minor repairs, and the system was already connected to the backup power of the defense network, so this behemoth had just been activated by Lin Xian and Kiki.
Hidden beneath the train, Lin Xian watched in shock—no wonder they say “if you lay down a high Pao , you’ll end up in a military court”—this thing simply isn’t survivable for carbon-based lifeforms?
But then he thought again—why, after the Day of Revelation, did the Interstellar Military’s such devices vanish like they’d never existed, leaving the world’s defenses utterly gone?
“Run!”
Tang Hai, hiding inside the locomotive, turned pale with terror—seeing his nephew reduced to nothing, he didn’t hesitate, immediately shoving down the throttle lever. The cannon hadn’t aimed at the train, but Tang Hai knew Lin Xian was hiding underneath it—he thought maybe he could escape while crushing Lin Xian at the same time.
Zzzzz~
Hidden beneath the train, Lin Xian felt the wheels begin to move, his heart jolted—he knew Tang Hai intended to use the reserve power of the spur line’s grid to evacuate his men and supplies from Beiwan Station, then flee by car—he quickly grabbed hold of the train’s undercarriage, preparing to activate his Mechanical Heart to stop the train.
But the moment he activated his ability, Lin Xian sensed something wrong—this train was far larger than he’d imagined; with his current strength, he couldn’t control it in a short time.
“Damn it!”
Watching the train slowly move, Lin Xian instinctively prepared to escape from the iron wheels and find another plan.
But the next instant, a thunderous metallic crash—“Bongdong!”—echoed from ahead of the newly started train, and all the cars came to a sudden halt.
What happened?!
Seizing the opportunity, Lin Xian quickly slipped out from under the train—and at the same moment, the CIWS fell silent.
Though capable of firing 10,000 rounds per minute, the actual ammunition chain could only sustain 15 seconds of continuous fire—but it seemed enough: when Lin Xian emerged from beneath the train, the entire guard station yard and slope had become a blood-soaked hellscape, thick smoke rising everywhere, the grass stripped bare, and he finally saw the true form of the giant spider—a blue creature the size of a truck’s front, covered in black blotches.
Though now… it was hard to tell it had ever been a complete spider.
As he turned back, puzzled why Tang Hai had suddenly stopped the train, he wondered if the power system had accidentally failed.
But when he looked, he saw ahead on the tracks—a far larger crimson steel beast emerging from the fog, blocking Tang Hai’s path!
“The Infinite!”
The sudden collision sent Tang Hai stumbling to the ground, blood streaming from his face—he scrambled up in shock, thinking, Had he been haunted by a ghost? Why did the train feel like it had hit a mountain?
But as he rose and peered under the train’s headlights, he saw clearly—a massive crimson Whale 03e heavy gas turbine locomotive, dragging a long string of cars, appearing eerily before him!
Tang Hai’s face turned green—he looked like he’d seen a ghost, and his gunmen were now panicking.
“Where did this train come from?!!”
“Fuck!”
“It’s a ghost!!”
At one corner of the slope, Lou Ye emerged, face twisted with fury, clutching a grenade launcher—he fired a grenade straight into the window of Tang Hai’s heavily armed train car!
Boom! Crash!
This sudden strike caught the gunmen completely off guard—in an instant, they were slaughtered en masse; the few survivors leapt from the smoke-filled car, only to find a girl standing ahead, smiling faintly as she waved. “Hello, where are you going?”
Then the girl’s eyes brightened, and she raised her hand.
Zzzz!
An invisible force hurled the men violently into the air—they died instantly!
Tang Hai flung open the cab door and scrambled off the tracks—most of the horde had already vanished; he gripped a pistol, preparing to flee into the dark along the railway.
Seeing this, Lin Xian immediately climbed onto the platform and chased after him.
But Tang Hai had barely gone far when a slender black shadow appeared ahead—he screamed, “Who?!”
Just as he raised his gun to shoot, the shadow swung a crowbar straight at him.
Pong~
Blood exploded—he went black in the eyes and collapsed straight down.
Only then did the shadow slowly step forward, illuminated by the headlights—a beautiful face emerged.
Lin Xian’s gaze sharpened—it was Chen Laoshi…
At that moment, Chen Sixuan gripped the crowbar tightly, her eyes fixed on Lin Xian on the platform, her face showing seven parts tension, three parts fear, her chest heaving.
Clearly, this was her first time hitting someone.
!
“Awesome, Chen Laoshi.”
Lin Xian looked astonished—he had no idea how Chen Sixuan had suddenly appeared here, but seeing Tang Hai knocked down, he raised his hand and fired several wind spears to finish him off.
“Lin Xian!”
Chen Sixuan was stunned by the horrific scene—her face was deathly pale; the tracks, the platform, the entire slope were littered with bloody flesh and body parts, the air thick with the stench of gunpowder and rot.
Puff! Puff!
Two wind spears—Lin Xian raised his hand and killed two zombies lurking behind Chen Sixuan, making her scream, “Ah!”
Lin Xian exhaled slowly, his gaze sweeping toward Lou Ye in the distance, then called out:
“Where’s Shasha?”
Hearing Lin Xian’s call, Lou Ye seemed to snap out of his daze—he looked around frantically, then spotted a mound of earth, dug twice, and pulled out Lou Shasha, her face covered in dirt.
“Brother…”
Lou Shasha, breathing heavily, looked at Lou Ye’s bloody face. “Are you okay?”
“I’m… fine.”
Shot in the back, pierced through the arm—this towering man acted as if he felt nothing.
Watching from afar, Lin Xian breathed a slight sigh of relief—then he heard more zombie sounds coming from the distant fog—he shouted to the siblings, “Quick, get on my train and hide!”
Lou Ye looked up at the massive train, understood, nodded earnestly and without hesitation, then picked up Lou Shasha and ran up.
“Hurry… hurry up!”
Kiki finished off the remaining gunmen, looked at the ground littered with shredded corpses, and couldn’t help covering her mouth—her eyes sparkled with amazement. “Whoa, that guy’s incredible.”
Lin Xian looked puzzled—a sixteen-year-old girl facing a sea of corpses, not scared or nauseated at all—how did he hear a hint of excitement in her voice?
At Chen Sixuan’s invitation, everyone quickly boarded “The Infinite” to rest.
The time was just 7 a.m.—at least seven or eight hours remained until dawn.
