Chapter 505
Huh~
Gazing at the terrifying, monstrous floating corpse, Lin Xian’s gaze flickered slightly as he exhaled slowly.
This wasn’t the first time—he’d seen this horrifying scene before, during Kiki’s first psychic evolution, when he’d witnessed it within her mental timeline; now Lin Xian was utterly certain that the towering, mountain-like cadaver in the night sky was the same monster from the high-altitude cumulus clouds in Jiangcheng, and that Kiki had been aboard the helicopter when the incident occurred there.
“Could this thing be the psychic-linked organism connected to Kiki?”
This was the first thought that struck Lin Xian now.
Bio-02: Unknown Sky Colossus.
According to the Phoenix Society’s Fire Scripture intelligence, this entity was described as follows: Chu Yan had once led a team to investigate it; the only credible lead was that the creature could not be approached—it seemed to generate an extremely terrifying bio-field. Yet, according to the Phoenix Society’s observational reports, this being, classified as a Shijiejizaihai , remained in a mysterious, unsleeping state, motionless except for its aerial drift, like a true humanoid corpse.
Lin Xian carefully observed the chilling silhouette of the creature; a terrifying dark energy fluctuation radiated down from the sky. At that moment, he scanned his surroundings and caught, out of the corner of his eye, a familiar figure in the distance.
Kiki.
She sat on the edge of a high-rise exterior wall, wearing the same coat Lin Xian had rescued her in back in Jiangcheng, her pale purple hair fluttering lightly in the wind, her back appearing lonely.
Lin Xian’s gaze softened; he walked over and sat beside her.
“What are you looking at?”
Kiki glanced at him sideways and pointed upward: “You saw it too, right?”
“Hard to miss…”
“This is the rooftop I fell from that night on the helicopter. When I woke up, I looked up—and saw this.” Kiki turned to Lin Xian and pointed toward a distant direction: “There—your home’s in that direction. I remember your flag waving.”
Lin Xian nodded, scanning the surroundings: “So I’ve entered your mental world again. Are you in trouble?”
“It’s a strange feeling, Lin Xian,” Kiki said. “That thing… seems to be trying to talk to me. But I can’t understand a word.”
“Talk?”
“Mm.”
Kiki pulled her knees to her chest, hugging them tightly, burying her face between them, whispering: “What if I really am linked to this monster? Lin Xian, I’ve experienced this before—not for the first time.”
Lin Xian fell silent for a moment. He wanted to offer comfort, but he knew it would mean nothing to Kiki—she was too smart, and she hated being brushed off.
“What else can you do? Kill the monster. Even if we can’t now, we’ll find a way later. In the end, it always comes down to one of us dying.”
After speaking, Lin Xian said calmly: “If the link truly exists, killing the monster will just cost you your ability—so there’s no need to worry too much.”
“But I don’t want to lose my ability…”
Kiki lifted her head, looking at Lin Xian with serious eyes: “I want to help you.”
Lin Xian was momentarily speechless.
Along the journey, because of Kiki, they had survived countless life-or-death situations. Lin Xian had long grown accustomed to having her as an ally—perhaps, to him, Kiki was no longer just an ally.
From the moment she pretended to be unconscious to sneak aboard the vehicle, stole his bread and got caught, to them teaming up to kill the Crimson Centipede, escaping the Misty Town, leaping across the broken bridge…
After thinking it over, Lin Xian could only say with a shrug: “If we’ve managed to resolve a Shijiejizaihai , maybe the apocalypse is already receding.” He looked at Kiki: “Or we fail, humanity goes extinct—and then there’s nothing left to worry about.”
Kiki gazed steadily at Lin Xian, then her lips curled slightly, her eyes crinkling into crescents as she said with a mischievous smile:
“Isn’t there a third possibility? Like… us escaping Blue Planet?”
Lin Xian nodded: “True.”
“Then I’ll be able to fly forever~”
Lin Xian smiled, then sighed deeply, his gaze fixed on the darkness: “Perhaps there is a third option.”
“Lin Xian.” Kiki called out to him.
“Hmm?”
“Promise me something.”
“Go ahead.”
“If… one day, we psychics end up doing something terrible because of this link… or…” She paused, lips pressing together: “If we ever need to… um!”
Lin Xian pinched her lips shut like a duck’s beak and said cheerfully: “You’re overthinking. If killing all psychics solved every problem, either the Dark Civilization is stupid, or we’re stupid—you’ve played too many video games.”
“That’s not what I meant!!” Kiki jumped up, cheeks puffed, ready to argue: “Maybe we can counter it! Counter it—do you understand?”
“Look, that thing seems to be trying to communicate with me. Don’t you think we should study it?”
“I’ll inform Director Ding. Once we reconnect with the Phoenix Society, I’ll discuss it with Professor Ye.” Lin Xian looked at Kiki with concern, taking her hand: “Your psychic energy is draining—get back to consciousness quickly. Chen Laoshi and the others are all worried about you.”
Kiki met Lin Xian’s gaze, then after a long moment, nodded, exhaling deeply:
“I can now clearly sense its presence, its trajectory. Since we fled from Jiangshi, its movement path has mirrored ours—it’s probably tracking me. That dark energy link we never noticed before? It’s likely something far more terrifying than a Dark Mark.”
Lin Xian frowned: “So you think the ‘enemy-same-origin’ link could trigger more crises among psychics?”
Kiki responded immediately: “Don’t you think we’ve faced far more threats than any other convoy? You’ve barely rested on this journey—calm nights are so rare you can count them on one hand. Even Shu Qin mentioned that although our Infinite is safe, before boarding, her team never encountered this level of constant attacks. The more psychics we have on board, the worse it gets!”
Lin Xian froze, his heart sinking. Since the Dark Mark was discovered, he’d naturally assumed it was the main cause—but now that Kiki said it, he realized: the threats their Infinite convoy faced were far beyond what most other convoys could have survived. Even the Longshan No.1 and Silver Star wouldn’t have made it. Her words instantly shifted his perspective.
Was the floating corpse chasing them?
Was the psychic dark link intensifying their crises?
Lin Xian’s mind churned with chaotic thoughts, then he looked at Kiki: “So your conclusion is… psychics bring bad luck?”
