Chapter 42: Sister Clara
The farthest training ground was the Support Sanctum, so Max proceeded there first.
He interacted and communicated with Sister Elira as soon as she arrived in the Support Sanctum.
He found it quite funny that Sister Elira seemed to have expected his arrival.
They were currently in the hallway as Sister Elira left her students.
She asked, "What took you so long? My apprentice has gotten impatient."
Max laughed awkwardly and scratched the back of his head while grasping an orb.
He replied, "I was a bit busy, Sister Elira."
Sister Elira giggled. "A savior is always busy. Anyway, Clara is in the basic infirmary, taking care of the sick. She might have exhausted herself already, I’m sure you’ve already prepared to buy mana potions, right?"
Max smiled bitterly. "I would have considered buying them, but the alchemist died... So, the mana potions are strictly controlled."
Sister Elira rolled her eyes. "You do know that if you try buying them directly from the Lieutenant or your teacher, they might even consider giving it to you for free?
Ask them about it. I don’t know why they didn’t include the rewards of potions for you."
Max beamed a smile. He could understand. After all, the rewards were already abundant to begin with, adding mana potions would make it more extravagant.
He nodded. "Thanks for the reminder, Sister Elira."
Sister Elira beamed a smile. "It’s nothing, as long as I can help the young savior. Anyway, if you have nothing to ask, you should go now. The dungeon is waiting for you to be cleared."
Max smiled. "I’ll take a leave now, then."
Max then proceeded to the basic infirmary with the help of another sister. The said sister pointed at them who Clara was.
Max was quite stunned when he saw Clara. She was no less a very demure woman, helping the sick without saying a word—her actions already said it all.
Her countenance expressed how passionate she was in her job.
She was already perspiring, but aside from wiping the sweat, she continued healing other sick one after another.
She was undoubtedly an attractive woman.
Max fell into a daze—he was awestruck of how passionate she was.
The sister, who guided him, noticed his reaction and smiled proudly.
She said, "There’s a very big reason why Clara is believed to be the successor of Sister Elira. While Sister Elira came from the capital city, which made sense of her current strength and status, Clara was born from this village. She came from nothing.
Her parents were sick when Sister Elira discovered her. She was still a kid, following Sister Elira curing other sick people around with sparkling eyes. Sister Elira then invited her to be her apprentice, and years later... look at her now, she has already grown.
But she has never gotten tired of using the same spell she learned the first time."
Max nodded. So, that’s why she asked me to buy a mana potion, huh? I guess she had already expected this to happen.
However, what Max didn’t know was that Clara’s passive skills had already reached the bottleneck of intermediate level.
Hence, the mana consumption of her active skills were lesser than he thought.
After pondering, he asked, "Did her parents get cured from their sickness?"
The sister was silent for a while, before sighing in a hopeless manner.
She said, "She lost her parents three years ago after demons attacked them. They managed to return to the village, but Sister Elira was quite late in purifying the demonic mana that wreaked havoc inside their body.
After that, Clara insisted to Sister Elira to learn about the purify skill, hoping it wouldn’t happen again to other villagers."
Max’s eyes widened. So, it makes sense now.He finally understood why Sister Elira highlighted the part where Clara learned the purify skill.
The purify skill was different from the purification skill. The purify would simply purify any demonic mana that caused debuffs to players and to NPCs, but purification... it was the most terrifying skills for demons.
After all, purify would only work on non-demonic creatures, but purification would work better on demons—it was already a divine attribute skill.
That was why demons always targeted healers first, and it was also why players put emphasis more in defending their healer whenever they were battling against demons.
As Max watched her, he hesitated for a while.
He said to the sister, "Can you inform her that I’m already here? Will there be someone who can replace her while she is gone?"
The sister giggled. "Of course, there is. Just that, despite we are in a break, she wouldn’t stop unless she ran out of mana. She herself was aware that most of the healing skills would be ineffective if the patient only requires to rely on their body to completely heal.
She’s just stubborn. I just simply wish she won’t make your adventure later difficult."
Max simply smiled.
The sister sauntered forward and waited until Clara was finished healing the current patient.
She immediately informed of Max’s arrival, causing her to turn her head around and glanced at Max.
She was quite surprised. Her cheeks went beet-red.
She whispered in her sister’s ear and suddenly left.
The sister walked towards Max and smiled awkwardly.
"She said she’ll change first. She didn’t notice you’d already be here, so she was apologetic."
Max smiled. "It’s fine."
If it wasn’t because he could finally stay inside the game for twenty four hours straight, he would have become impatient.
Thankfully, he didn’t have to wait long as Sister Clara had finally returned.
She didn’t seem to change her clothes since it was still similar as before, but from how flawless her face appeared, she might have cleaned herself thoroughly and had indeed changed her clothes.
She also has a complete set of equipment—staff, prayer codex, vestments, ring, charm, and relic.
In the span of ten minutes!
No woman has ever done that.
As soon as Sister Clara arrived in front of him, she lowered her head and didn’t say anything.
Max chuckled to lighten the mood and said, "We’ll take a leave now. We’ll proceed to our fellow party members."
Sister Clara nodded.
Max bid farewell to the sister, who guided him, as he led Sister Clara to the Command Hall to ask for potions to Lieutenant Garrick.
