Chapter 43: Max’s Dilemma
Max managed to receive 5 basic potions each for mana and stamina potion.
As for buff potions, the Lieutenant currently doesn’t possess them. Max didn’t care anyway, the set of equipment was already more than enough.
Although it was a bit of a shame that he didn’t receive a healing potion from Sister Elira, he already has a healer anyway with a complete set of equipment.
He also proceeded to the Arcane Cottage to ask his teacher for mana potions, and he received five of them, totalling to 10 basic mana potions.
After Max was finished with the matters of acquiring potions for free... He proceeded to the Warrior Yard.
When he arrived, he noticed there were already many D-Rank Swordsmen among the players, but they were still training.
At this point, most of them were already eligible to clear the local dungeon, but he doubted if they already gathered enough coins to buy equipment and potions.
Hence, most of the players, who reached D-Rank would search for a mission that rewarded quite a lot of money.
For instance, becoming a security guard—for warriors. Healing sick people—for healers.
Or, more often than not, players would form a party to clear out monsters outside of the village, but they would never dare to enter the local dungeon.
They only have one life. Even if they die, Apocalypse Online would suspend their accounts from playing for five consecutive days.
Hence, most of the players were cautious.
Max, on the contrary, was already way ahead of them. He was already gathering powerful NPCs by his side to clear out the local dungeon.
Most of the players already noticed his intention when he arrived in the Warrior Yard.
Max was currently chatting with Branna Holt and her daughter was beside her.
Their suspicions were also confirmed when Branna’s daughter suddenly stood beside Max, as the latter left outside of the Warrior Yard, proceeding to the Ranger Post.
Instantly, most of the players went to Julian to tell the news, while some logged out and posted in the Apocalypse Online forum about what they had discovered.
Max, on the other hand, was careless about what had occurred after his visit to the Warrior Yard.
He was now proceeding to the Ranger Post, while the women behind him were assessing each other quietly.
Eva and Clara have a complete set of Common rank equipment.
Eva has a long sword, a shield, wearing plate armor, ring, talisman, and relic.
Clara was the same. Their equipment was the reason why they were far different and way ahead compared to other players.
While players barely had a single equipment, they already had a complete one—gifted by their instructors.
In fact, it was the first time they wore a complete set of equipment. They were thankful to Max for granting them an opportunity to wear them and, at the same time, to prove themselves in combat against demons and monsters.
As they proceeded to the Ranger Post, they simply wished the next individual to join their part wasn’t a woman.
The less the competition, the better.
When they arrived, they were quite intimidated by Sylwen’s aura.
After all, he always wore a solemn face and his tone was deep and frightening.
He said to Max, "There’s a newbie here, who kept crying about joining your party instead of the person I’ve personally chosen. Is that true?"
"I was not crying," said Rhayne while pouting in dissatisfaction.
She was standing behind Sylwen, together with two other men. The other one was wearing a bow and quiver, gazing at Rhayne with frustrations.
It was inevitable, he was quite excited when Sir Sylwen informed him that he was chosen to accompany the young savior in clearing the local dungeon, but suddenly, a random woman kept insisting to Sir Sylwen that the young savior chose her instead of him.
If it was not because she was exceptionally pretty, he would have long asked her for a duel to prove who was worthy in accompanying the young savior.
Looking at them, Max scratched his cheeks. He was in an awkward position, causing him to hesitate for quite a long time.
Sylwen was about to say something, when Rhayne suddenly said, "That’s why I kept telling you to inform Sir Sylwen about your sudden decision as early as possible to prevent this from happening, but you didn’t even bother listening to me."
Max closed his eyes and sighed.
He pondered. As much as I would like not to include this woman, I’ve already considered the 10k dollars on my bank account.
When it came to money, Max had a hard time rejecting it.
Hence, he opened his eyes and smiled apologetically to Sir Sylwen and to the archer behind him.
He said, "I’m deeply sorry, I was so busy that I didn’t have time to come here and inform you about it. I couldn’t refuse her desire to join the part since it involved money."
Sylwen nodded with an indifferent face. "It’s fine. As for money, yeah, this girl is strangely rich. She just bought a complete set of Common Rank equipment from me. I don’t even know where she got the money from."
Max was stunned. He could only utter an awkward laugh.
Sylwen turned around and asked the Archer behind him, "Do you still want to join the young savior’s party?"
The Archer hesitated for a while and glanced at Max.
Max nodded at him and said, "You can join. It’s much better that way anyway."
The Archer’s face lit up.
Sylwen smiled at him and turned towards Max.
"The archer is Ethan and the scout is Jasper. Since they are on an important mission, they’ve been granted with a set of Common rank equipment, so they won’t be a burden to you. Please take care of them."
"What? How unfair! How come I have to spend 30 silver coins for a set of Common Rank equipment while they get theirs for free?"
Sylwen glanced at her and rolled his eyes.
"The young savior chose you while I chose them. So, it’s normal for me to feel responsible for them. While you... I don’t know you. Who are you again?"
Rhayne growled and stomped her feet as she walked towards Max.
Sylwen smiled at her and glanced at Max. He gestured for his men to proceed towards Max as they followed his instructions.
He said, "Please take care of them. I apologize in advance if any of them are problematic."
Rhayne rolled her eyes and silently cursed Sylwen under her breath.
Max smiled. "Yes, of course. Thank you again, Sir Sylwen. We’ll be back soon."
Sylwen nodded and returned to the newbies as he trained them to be better at archery.
As for the other professions, such as scout, assassin, and thrower, the job was given to his subordinates, who were at C-Rank—worthy enough to teach them.
Max, on the other hand, led his party members towards the gate and finally left the Greyfen Village for the second time.
