Chapter 35: Courtship?

~5 min read 873 words

The tyrannosaur’s entire body was covered in small, brown scales—not large and coarse, but fine and delicate, with muscular lines that gave it an intense sense of explosive power.

The tyrannosaur stared at Little Godzilla and let out a low roar, a strange sense of delight woven into its call.

Little Godzilla retreated step by step, watching the massive creature with caution. Compared to it, the velociraptor was like a child—so Little Godzilla did not treat this as play, but instead gathered all his strength, ready for a killing strike.

The tyrannosaur roared repeatedly, advancing step by step. It didn’t understand why this creature kept retreating, but it knew this being was powerful—evident from how quickly it had killed the velociraptor.

In truth, if Ye Nan had observed carefully, he would have realized this tyrannosaur was a female.

Unlike male tyrannosaurs, females were stronger and larger, but in terms of combat ability, they were nothing special.

Though not gentle, she normally fed only on carrion and only turned violent when nesting, tearing apart any creature that dared approach her territory.

Typically, female tyrannosaurs were territorial, while males were nomadic. When mating season arrived, the female would emit calls to attract males.

At that time, males arriving in response would bring food as a mating gift. They mated over the food; afterward, the male would leave and wander alone, while the female consumed the gift to nourish herself and her future offspring.

This female tyrannosaur had just entered mating season, but no males came to offer gifts, no matter how she called. Forced to act, she left her nest to find a mate herself.

Little Godzilla’s heroic display happened to catch her eye. Delighted, she immediately stepped forward and emitted her mating signal—but Little Godzilla, clueless about romance, kept retreating.

Little Godzilla didn’t understand romance, but Ye Nan did. Given tyrannosaur behavior, this creature should have attacked long ago—not merely stood there in standoff.

“Weird… something feels off.” Ye Nan pulled out a dinosaur encyclopedia from his pack, turned to the tyrannosaur page, and studied it closely.

The book was a gift from Ellie, documenting Dr. Grant’s research on dinosaur behavior. Though lacking direct proof, it contained abundant supporting evidence—highly valuable even to modern scientists.

Ye Nan read carefully, his expression growing increasingly bizarre. When he finished, he felt both amused and exasperated.

It clearly stated that when a female tyrannosaur couldn’t find a mate, she would leave her nest to seek out powerful creatures and mate with them.

Combining this with the current situation, Ye Nan immediately understood: this tyrannosaur was in heat. To confirm, he checked the map Dr. Hammond had given him—the annotations clearly marked the only tyrannosaur on Jurassic Park as a female.

“So this tyrannosaur is just lonely at night, sneaking out to find a lover—and she spotted Little Godzilla as her candidate. Too bad he’s not even a dinosaur.” Ye Nan chuckled inwardly.

“Little Godzilla, this female tyrannosaur wants to mate with you.” Ye Nan shouted, voice dripping with mockery. Though Little Godzilla’s mother was hermaphroditic, after Dr. Ma Xiu’s modifications, he was no longer one—he was a genuine male.

Little Godzilla froze, startled. He’d never heard the word “mate” before, but he knew it wasn’t about fighting—Ye Nan was teasing him, with zero tension in his tone.

Seeing Little Godzilla stop, the female tyrannosaur excitedly lunged forward, her massive body like a speeding car, crashing toward him in an instant.

Little Godzilla, seeing the looming giant, flapped his wings and soared upward, dodging the charge.

“Roar!” Little Godzilla bellowed angrily. Why attack if this wasn’t a fight?

The female tyrannosaur roared back in fury, demanding why he avoided her.

“Ugh. Two species with no common language, just roaring at each other—communication failure is a real problem.” Ye Nan shook his head. He could barely infer the female’s intent from her roars and habits, but Little Godzilla didn’t understand him—he had no idea what “mating” meant.

“I guess I need to explain the concept to Little Godzilla.” Ye Nan chuckled inwardly, yet a flicker of concern arose.

Little Godzilla wasn’t a dinosaur—would he even be able to satisfy this female? Would she eat him instead?

Then he thought again: during mating season, the female was in heat. If he offered enough food, this normally docile dinosaur wouldn’t turn violent. He immediately said: “Mating means copulating—with her. But remember: you must bring her a dinosaur as a gift. Otherwise, she’ll eat you.”

As he spoke, Ye Nan burst into laughter. He truly wanted to see Little Godzilla mating with the female—how could such a tiny creature possibly enter that massive body?

Little Godzilla finally understood. He stood frozen, unable to move forward or retreat, paralyzed in indecision.

“Just go along with the female. Otherwise, an enraged female is deadly. And you’re old enough—you should leave some offspring behind.”

Ye Nan laughed heartily and walked away, leaving Little Godzilla and the female tyrannosaur alone. He was desperate to see what offspring they’d produce, so he callously abandoned Little Godzilla to face this alone.

“Roar!” Little Godzilla cried pitifully, bewildered why his master would treat him this way—leaving him alone against such a ferocious dinosaur. His cry was filled with despair.
