Chapter 32: Chapter Thirty-Two: If this cat really is the one, I'll go eat black rice porridge!

~4 min read 707 words

Zheng Tan lay sprawled on the sofa, expressionless, staring at the person crouched in front of him.

The person in front of the sofa stared at Zheng Tan without blinking for two minutes, then reached out and placed his hand in front of Zheng Tan.

"Come on, shake hands."

Zheng Tan: "……"

He glanced at the large palm extended before him, then at the person in front of him; Zheng Tan ignored him, remaining calmly sprawled there without moving.

"You can't even shake hands? Forget it, let's roll over… spinning is fine too." The person in front said again.

Zheng Tan twitched the paw resting on the edge of the sofa, but he restrained himself from swiping at the person in front, so he continued his "dazed and sluggish" state.

The person in front issued several more "commands," the kind used to train pets, but Zheng Tan kept his original posture, completely ignoring his "commands."

"Holy shit, at least meow! The fat cat downstairs in our building that can't even catch mice may not shake hands, roll over, or play dead, but it at least makes some noise. I'm saying, Professor Jiao, what kind of cat is yours?"

Yuan Zhiyi withdrew his hand, turned sideways, and looked at Associate Professor Jiao, who sat calmly beside the table.

Jiao Ba took a leisurely sip of tea and replied, "It's a garden cat, commonly called a native cat."

"A cat like this would sell for about fifty bucks at the pet market—how could the chairman of the renowned Changwei Group personally lend a hand to help us break into the market?" Yuan Zhiyi pointed at the black cat lounging on the sofa and said to Jiao Ba.

It was obvious that Yuan Zhiyi didn't believe the Changwei Group chairman had any connection with this ordinary native cat. As far as he knew, the chairman had just returned from the capital; what possible link could there be with this black cat!

Their company had only recently been founded; initially they just did reagent or test kit resale, sold small instruments, and also did DNA sequencing and PCR primer synthesis—fairly basic stuff. The market hadn't opened up yet, and now most of the staff are still in sales, running around various colleges to promote and build a reputation first.

But Yuan Zhiyi and his team never expected to suddenly receive an order from Changwei Group—although it was merely the QC quality inspection department of a subsidiary, the quantity was not small, total value around two million yuan. As Yuan Zhiyi's wife would put it bluntly, it's pure free money, and we could even use this cooperation to cling to Changwei Group's thigh. But surely such a big company wouldn't lack long-term partners? Wouldn't it get preferential treatment? Why would they pick us, a small company with no reputation?

So after hanging up the phone with Jiao Ba, Yuan Zhiyi stayed up all night, then early this morning drove over to block him, cornering Associate Professor Jiao at home, determined to get a clear answer, otherwise he couldn't rest easy.

"Come on, say something," Yuan Zhiyi urged.

"I'm not sure yet, what should I say? I just suspect there might be some connection, but I can't make my cat speak for itself, can I? I think it's just as confused."

"It's confused?" Yuan Zhiyi turned and looked at Zheng Tan again.

Zheng Tan continued his "dazed and sluggish" state.

After looking, Yuan Zhiyi shook his head: "I still don't see anything; I just think it's always been pretty dull."

*Puff puff puff! *

The sound of cat claws scratching the sofa rang out again.

Yuan Zhiyi glanced at the Jiao family's sofa, its edges riddled with cat claw holes, clicked his tongue twice, and thought, "What's good about keeping a cat? Purely asking for trouble."

However, having come this time and not gotten a satisfactory answer left Yuan Zhiyi feeling unwilling to accept it.

As for the reason behind Jiao Ba and Yuan Zhiyi's conversation, Zheng Tan was just as clueless.

These past two days, Zheng Tan considered himself still well-behaved—he hadn't gone far, hadn't fought, hadn't gotten fleas, and hadn't even gone to peek at those couples doing this and that,. reading.
