Chapter 126: Is There Such a Good Thing?

~9 min read 1,674 words

When Yang Tianxing heard that He Yulin wanted to join both the college student union and the department student union, he immediately raised both hands in approval: "Sure, Little He. Your thick-skinned style is exactly the same as Yi Min's."

Fu Yiming said disdainfully from the side: "Second Brother, it should be exactly the same as yours."

He Yulin didn't mind the teasing: "Don't talk nonsense. I'm doing this to contribute more to the school and the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences."

"Understood, understood. No need to explain."

Yang Tianxing gave an "OK" gesture, signaling that he could handle the student union matter himself.

"Also, let's pick an auspicious day to transition the position of monitor for Class 2 of Public Administration."

Yang Tianxing added: "I said back when we started freshman year that by sophomore year at the latest, the position of monitor wouldn't hold much appeal for me anymore."

He Yulin thought to herself that Yang Tianxing really wasn't bragging. He was currently the vice president of the department student union, was about to hold an important position in the college student union, was a student cadre in the Youth League Committee, and had even won college student-related honors at the provincial, municipal, and district levels.

Although some of these honors involved luck, one could not deny that Yang Tianxing had been thriving at the Finance Institute over the past year, to the point where he was even going to speak at the freshman orientation.

However, the more this was the case, the less He Yulin wanted to take over now; she felt the current model was quite good.

With Yang Tianxing holding the position of monitor for Class 2 of Public Administration, the classmates walked with more confidence on campus, and mentioning that Yang Tianxing was their monitor might even earn them some face somewhere.

"Don't give it to me now. Give it to me before I take the exam for selected public servants."

He Yulin found another reason to refuse: "There's no class fund left in the class. At least let's collect the class fund before talking about it."

Yang Tianxing shook his head with a smile: "Little He, you're good at everything, but your mouth is too stubborn. You clearly can't bear to see Brother leave, so why can't you just say it?"

He Yulin was choked and couldn't say a word. She looked at Yang Tianxing, then glanced at Liu Jiaoyue.

One was grinning and cracking jokes, never speaking seriously.

The other was kneeling on the ground, working earnestly, clenching her fists to gently pound her waist when tired, occasionally looking up at Yang Tianxing before returning her attention to the work at hand.

He Yulin was suddenly very curious about the two's future life together.

Yang Tianxing walked over and pulled Liu Jiaoyue up. She looked at Yang Tianxing blankly: "There's still work left to do."

"It's fine, others will do it. Let's go chat with Little He."

Liu Jiaoyue pouted and didn't want to agree at first.

Yang Tianxing glared at her, and only then did Liu Jiaoyue obediently sit down to rest.

Before the 101 Entrepreneurship Base closed for the night, He Yulin remembered a freshman girl who had come over that afternoon to stake her claim, so she said to Yang Tianxing: "The freshmen this year are all very arrogant."

He Yulin didn't explicitly say that Zheng Xuan had come here to challenge them and make threats. Yang Tianxing's life was full of beautiful women, but Liu Jiaoyue only had eyes for Yang Tianxing, and she was worried about adding psychological pressure to Liu Jiaoyue.

Yang Tianxing hadn't expected Zheng Xuan to be so bold, and thought He Yulin was just giving a simple evaluation of the freshmen: "How come your tone is just like Song Fei's? He complains all day in the dorm that this year's freshmen have such foul tempers."

In fact, looking down on freshmen is a "common ailment" among sophomores.

Even though they were ignorant freshmen themselves just last year, it felt like Yang Tianxing had just gotten a taste of university life, and suddenly he was a sophomore.

So when new students enroll, these seniors inevitably think of their own registration days, and unconsciously develop a "been there, done that" mentality.

If the young freshmen act too childish, the ones who criticize them the most are the sophomores. This was the mindset Zhou Yang had when he first saw Yang Tianxing, and this situation would last until about November.

Junior students wouldn't be like this at all; they basically turn a blind eye to freshman enrollment because they've already experienced it once.

Seeing Yang Tianxing's indifferent attitude, He Yulin thought that sitting firmly in the position of the 101 boss's wife was truly too difficult.

Returning to the dorm at night, 312 was holding another tea party, and the topic was still the freshmen.

According to the principle that "like poles repel, opposites attract," boys' evaluations of other boys were much lower.

Song Fei sighed: "Today I helped a junior carry his bag, and he didn't even say a word of thanks."

"Tell me about it."

Qian Jiale chimed in: "There was a junior who was really damn stingy. He wouldn't even buy me an extra bottle of water. Once a person like that enters the dorm, they're definitely going to suffer the beatings of society."

Fu Yiming hadn't gone to the passenger transport station to pick anyone up today, but he was quite curious, so he asked Yi Min: "Don't you have any opinions to share?"

"I don't have any opinions."

Yi Min said while surfing the internet: "I'm not picking up juniors; I only pick up fresh and lovely junior girls."

Yang Tianxing nodded; Old Six was still realistically cute.

Now a sophomore, Yi Min had finally assembled his computer. He became the first student in Dorm 312 to own a personal computer, though he still often went to internet cafes to stay up all night.

Firstly, the campus network was quite laggy, and secondly, the fun of surfing the web with roommates far exceeded playing games alone.

Yang Tianxing estimated that by graduation, the thing on this computer would be mostly educational films; other than that, it probably wouldn't have much use.

Yi Min was also muttering: "A junior girl asked me this morning if university exams were hard. I performed poorly in advanced mathematics last semester and only got 55 points; otherwise, I definitely could have shown off a bit."

Yang Tianxing curled his lips: "Just give it a rest. Scoring 90 usually and 80 occasionally is called performing poorly. Old Six, have you ever passed advanced math in two semesters? 55 is a stable performance for you."

Yi Min sneered: "When it comes to failing subjects, I wouldn't dare compare myself to Second Brother. Working hard for a whole semester to improve from 15 points to 20 points—and that includes the moisture from cheating."

The few of them were chatting randomly like this when suddenly Yang Tianxing's phone rang. It was actually Old Yang.

"Dad, what's up?"

Yang Jianjun's tone was a bit low: "I went to the district government office today and ran into your Uncle Tan. He kept a cold face and didn't greet me."

Yang Tianxing also fell silent. The relationship between the two families couldn't be called particularly good in the past, but at least they were friends and neighbors; they could still exchange a few pleasantries if they ran into each other.

However, after Tan Zhizhi transferred to the Yanta campus, Tan Qingwu stopped talking to Yang Jianjun and his wife.

Everyone knew the reason. Although Tan Zhizhi kept saying that changing majors was a personal hobby, how could she hide it from Tan Qingwu, who was in charge of criminal investigation?

The culprit was Yang Tianxing!

"School doesn't officially start for a few more days. I'll go back to Jinzhou tomorrow and personally apologize to Uncle Tan," Yang Tianxing said.

Only then did Yang Jianjun hang up the phone.

This was Old Yang's consistent way of parenting: the parents generally didn't help wipe up messes; one had to resolve the trouble one caused oneself.

The next day, Yang Tianxing really returned to Jinzhou, standing at Tan Qingwu's door carrying two bottles of Wuliangye.

Old Tan looked at Yang Tianxing with a serious expression, then looked at the liquor in his hand, and finally opened the door to let him in; he was an elder after all.

"Little Zhizhi went to school, your Auntie Ye is on a business trip, and my mother is visiting relatives. There's only me at home now."

Old Tan took a few more bottles of white liquor from the storage cabinet and placed them on the table with a "clack, clack, clack."

"Come, let us two, father and son, have a good chat."

Yang Tianxing saw that Old Tan intended to get him drunk to vent his anger, but this suited his own intentions perfectly; drinking and talking would allow him to be a bit bolder.

Yang Tianxing had a decent capacity for liquor, and relying on his youth, he actually drank Tan Qingwu until his face was flushed red.

Old Tan pointed at Yang Tianxing drunkenly and said, "You brat are no good; my daughter is top-tier in every way, she even pursued you, yet you still dare to be fickle."

"If I hadn't watched you grow up, I would definitely break your legs."

Yang Tianxing poured wine for Tan Qingwu while saying, "Uncle Tan, I haven't been fickle; actually, it's just a small misunderstanding with Xiao Zhiliao. If it's convenient, please help me put in a good word and explain things."

"Don't call me Uncle!"

Tan Qingwu gave a cold snort: "Even if you called me Dad today, I wouldn't open my mouth to help you!"

Upon hearing this, Yang Tianxing thought, there's such a good thing?

"Look at what you're saying, Dad, help me explain, explain, explain it, won't you?"
