Chapter 106: The Start of School and Old Acquaintances (Completed)

~6 min read 1,069 words

Time passed slowly, and before they knew it, it was September.

Louis’s new base still wasn’t ready; building a secure facility truly took time, but the remaining dozen or so deformed pigs and sheep had been moved over and assigned dedicated personnel to care for them.

As for other matters, progress had largely stalled.

The perfume had already been researched.

The Joker Demon had now completely stopped speaking.

Jason still lacked the conditions for research.

He cultivated a few more ordinary corpse worms, but the results were unsatisfactory; however, he confirmed their mutation was tied to the flesh of the Flesh-Eating Demon used as the catalyst.

Regarding the Poison Fire Technique, he had only stored about twenty blocks; ordinary evildoers and deformed humans still differed greatly—most were only three-second wonders, utterly unsustainable.

For both types of dolls, he crafted two more cursed dolls, but the substitute-dying doll had succeeded only once—the comical one—and no second time; the difficulty was indeed high, but Louis suspected it was due to a lack of sentient materials and thought he should switch them out.

Louis had recently been pondering the creation of two other Gu , especially the Blood Gu , which was practically the perfect tool for subjugating servants—too bad it was difficult and required more time; in his spare moments, he also crafted several Shattered Teeth, though the raw materials…

One tiger, two crocodiles, two lions.

The tiger was privately bred by a wealthy man he purchased it from; the crocodiles were wild-caught; the lions came from the African savannah—not one of them was ordinary. If the emerging animal rights groups outside saw them, they’d likely be publicly denounced.

But this phase of life would soon end.

Lakeview High had opened for the semester.

Louis tied his tie, glanced briefly at his attire, and stepped out; David was preparing breakfast for several people. Lately, David’s business had been thriving—he’d hired additional workers and even a manager, freeing himself from the burdens of daily management.

He had risen slightly from the lower rungs of the petty bourgeoisie.

“Louis, Yulencar, Emma—breakfast is ready.”

“Coming!”

The three descended from the second floor one by one.

Sitting at the dining table, nearly forty-year-old David gazed warmly at the harmonious family.

A gentle, beautiful wife, three children with excellent grades, and a business flourishing—David felt his life was truly good.

If only it could last forever.

David sincerely hoped for it.

“Today is the start of high school. Do you have any future plans?”

“Yulencar, although I don’t fully agree with your idea of transferring schools, it’s true that Lakeview High has stronger faculty, so I respect your decision—but will you adapt? If not, don’t pretend you can handle it; tell Dad, and we’ll find a solution together.”

David asked this after considering the circumstances of all three children.

Beside him, Jenny nodded, casting a reproachful glance at Yulencar, as if also finding her abrupt transfer decision ill-advised.

Yulencar clenched her fists in anger—so this was what happened when a mother forgot her daughter for a man.

Facing David’s question, Louis smiled, half-serious, half-joking: “I’ll study hard, aim for advanced education, try to get into a top university, and hopefully MIT.”

Emma sipped her milk, casually adding: “Study well, win awards, and if possible, go to MIT with Louis.”

David smiled at the first half, but upon hearing the second half, he suddenly realized something.

Did Emma like Louis?

At this age, she was entering puberty; liking someone of the opposite sex was normal. If Emma liked Louis, and they married… hmm, that might actually be a good thing.

Once he grasped this, David’s gaze toward Louis subtly shifted.

As for Yulencar, she smiled: “I don’t have such lofty goals. Maybe join a club, try for student council president if I can, get some extra points, then aim for a good university.”

David nodded in satisfaction—his three children all had plans. Good. But he still needed to supervise more closely; high schools these days were getting messier—group parties, brawls, drug use…

Worse than when he was in school.

This kind of situation was dangerous; one misstep could ruin everything.

“Alright, I’ll drive you to school.”

The car started and soon arrived at the new school—Lakeview Prep.

Aside from everything else, the new school’s interior decoration and facade were truly impressive: white marble paved the walkways, towering academic buildings stood tall, students came and went with youthful energy, exuding grandeur, luxury, and order, with a strikingly elegant style.

The interior decoration was worthy of a university.

“Looks like they’ve got serious funding.”

In America, running a school was just as profitable—high tuition, ancillary service income, alumni donations, paid admissions, elite connections…

In fact, anyone who successfully ran a private school became one of the true masters of this nation; their board of directors was a web of capital, each director representing a different resource, each with their own circles, which intertwined to form a vast, interconnected net obscuring the entire country.

Once inside, Louis and Emma parted ways with Yulencar—she was a transfer student in the upper grades.

Louis and Emma, however, used a bit of money to secure a place in the same class.

Sitting at his desk, Louis began thinking about when to casually join a club and then slip away; meanwhile, Emma had already drawn the attention of several boys, who tried to approach her—but her cold expression and Louis’s presence nearby deterred them.

At that moment.

“Madison, Madison, slow down!”

“Maria, you’re the one who’s moving too slowly—look how slow you are.”

Two graceful figures burst into the classroom, instantly drawing everyone’s attention.

High school was the time when hearts first stirred; attraction to beautiful girls and handsome boys was exaggerated. The class already had Louis and Emma—a stunning pair—and everyone thought their chances were gone, only for two more beautiful girls to appear now.

Louis even saw some boys cheering in celebration.

But…

Louis’s expression changed.

Maria? Madison?

The two he’d met years ago at Camp Karna, the ones he’d seen when he burned Estelle alive.

Wait—why did Madison feel familiar? A strange sense of recognition.

Meanwhile,

The two girls who had just entered the classroom also froze, their steps halting.

Madison saw Louis and Emma—especially Louis—and turned as pale as if she’d seen a ghost; beside her, Maria simply stared, gazing at Louis as if lost in thought.
