Chapter 24: Meat and Salt
In a place she couldn't see, the system was pounding the table and laughing wildly, then silently changed the points back.
This thing is all flashy; in this primitive beast world she couldn't wear it out.
In the end, Wu Yue still put a grass-woven butt curtain over her big-flowered underpants as a cover.
Looking at the small porcelain bottle in her hand, Wu Yue's heart surged with excitement; she opened the stopper and prepared to pour it into her mouth.
"Friendly reminder, it's better for the host to take it when undisturbed~" the system suddenly spoke, stopping her.
Just returned from gathering, everyone was busy at their own homes; who would come looking for her?
Wu Yue was about to retort the system when she suddenly heard someone calling her from outside the cave.
"Yue, are you there?" That was Qingcao's voice, which startled Wu Yue.
She hurriedly tied the grass curtain over the outer layer of her big-flowered underpants, seeing it was less conspicuous, then walked out of the cave.
Standing outside the cave was precisely Qingcao, who had beside her a very familiar half-beast warrior.
It seemed to be the same half-beast who had been dragged over by the wood crystal to lick her fingers.
In his hand he held a chunk of meat from some unknown game, as if just torn from the animal's body, still dripping blood.
"This is." Wu Yue looked toward Qingcao beside her.
Qingcao nudged the half-beast beside her: "This is Shilin, bringing you food, since I didn't know where you lived, so I brought him over."
Wu Yue waved her hand: "That hemostatic herb was meant for you; it's not enough to trade for such a large piece of meat, you'd better take it back."
The half-beast shook his head: "This is what I promised you."
Having said that, he stepped forward, shoved the meat into Wu Yue's hand, and strode away.
By the time Wu Yue fumbled to steady the meat in her hands, Shilin's figure had already gone far away.
Looking at the large chunk of beast meat in her hand, Wu Yue gave a wry smile: "Such a big piece of meat, I can't finish it either."
Although the weather isn't very hot yet, if this meat were left until tomorrow it would still spoil.
"Yue, this is what A Mu asked me to bring you." Qingcao beside her suddenly spoke, carefully handing over a small stone bowl.
"Just a moment." Wu Yue quickly turned, placed the meat on the dry grass inside the cave, then carefully took it.
Looking at the slightly yellowish granules in the stone bowl, Wu Yue's heart jolted: "This is... salt?"
Qingcao nodded: "Yes, the tribespeople who went to exchange salt this year haven't returned yet, so our salt supply is also low."
Wu Yue felt deeply grateful; in the original host's memory, precious salt existed only in legend, and their only way to replenish salt was through beast blood.
Sometimes even beast blood was a luxury; elders and tribespeople unable to find food weren't entitled to a share.
After carefully storing the salt, Wu Yue took Qingcao's hand and walked into the cave: "Qingcao, I want to split this piece of meat; do you have any way?"
Qingcao scratched her head: "Splitting meat like this is what warriors do; we don't have sharp claws."
Wu Yue looked at her bare nails and silently curled up.
All right, she's even less capable.
"Qingcao, where by the river are there more stones?" Since manual work won't do, we'll have to rely on tools.
Although Qingcao wondered why Wu Yue suddenly asked about stones, she still nodded: "I know, it's where the beastfolk wash after returning from hunting."
