Chapter 35: Temporary Shelter
The system let out a deep sigh: "Host, be confident, drop the pretense."
Wu Yue: "."
Guilty, I glanced at the still-frightened half-beast; this is really being dazed by my own morning self.
With the half-beast's testimony, Wu Yue was decisively acquitted.
Qingcao returned to the cave with her, her gaze toward Wu Yue wanting to speak but holding back, faintly tinged with sympathy.
Wu Yue wondered: "Qingcao, you've been acting odd since just now; say what you want to say."
Qingcao pursed her lips: "Yue, what are your plans afterward?"
This question came out of the blue; Wu Yue was baffled: "Why ask like that? Did something happen?"
Qingcao startled: "You don't know? The salt-exchanging tribe is coming back; this cave belongs to a half-beast, and once they return, you can't stay here."
Wu Yue was dumbfounded: "."
What the heck, I thought this would be my cave from now on, but you're telling me it's just a temporary shelter?
Seeing her dazed look, Qingcao scratched her head: "Otherwise I'll go tell A Mu, and you can stay at our cave for now."
As she said that, Qingcao felt a bit uneasy; actually her family's cave is only about the same size as the one Yue lives in.
After the older sister and her partner moved out, it became much more spacious; but if Yue were added, they'd probably have to squeeze together to sleep again.
"Is your cave big, Qingcao?"
Qingcao hehe-laughed and pointed to the small cave behind them where Wu Yue lives: "About the same size as yours."
Wu Yue: "."
Thinking of her family's population, she decisively chose to refuse: "I'll still think of a way."
Qingcao also didn't speak further; her family's home is indeed rather crowded.
"Actually it's not that hard, Yue; you can ask the tribe's males to help you build a grass shelter."
Wu Yue's eyes lit up: "A grass shelter?"
Although my ideal choice is still a cave, having a temporary dwelling is still okay.
Qingcao brought Wu Yue to the residential area of the Purefolk, a large gathering of grass shelters.
Each grass shelter is about the same size, roughly waist-high, not very large; when walking past one, Wu Yue could even see inside the Purefolk children sleeping spread-eagled.
The two wound their way to a relatively open spot near the tribe's edge, where Qing Hua stood before a grass shelter, watching them.
Qingcao pointed with her hand to the three connected grass shelters: "This is the older sister's home; she and her partners live here."
Qing Hua turned, took some dry grass from the shelter, casually spread it on the ground: "Have a seat."
After a few days here, Wu Yue also gradually grew accustomed to this unrestrained 'sitting faction'.
"Has the younger sister already told you about the cave situation?" Qing Hua handed her a withered fruit.
Wu Yue pursed her lips: "Mm."
She looked at Qing Hua: "Why don't you choose a cave? The grass shelters are too low."
Given the females' height here, entering and exiting requires bending over, let alone the males.
Qing Hua blinked, then gave a wry smile: "I don't have the qualification to live in a cave."
Wu Yue blinked: "What?"
"Qualification to live in a cave? Nowadays you even need a certificate to reside in a cave?"
Qing Hua patted her arm: "The caves in the tribe are limited; only beastfolk, half-beasts, young ones, or those who have made great contributions are eligible to reside."
What to do? No place to live.
