Chapter 36: Caves Are the Best

~4 min read 607 words

Wu Yue glanced at the small grass huts around her, so someone like her—no impressive status, no big contributions—will have to live in the shanty area from now on, right?

What kind of refugee qualification is this?

She asked, still unwilling to give up: "How can we get a cave?"

Qingcao tugged Wu Yue's arm: "Yue, you'd better not think about getting a cave; in the Snow Tiger Tribe, besides the shaman, no pure human has ever owned their own cave."

Qing Hua nodded: "The shaman once said that if a pure human could bring back three beast crystals, they would earn the right to live in a cave."

Wu Yue's face fell in despair: "Beastfolk and Beastman Warriors suffer casualties when facing fierce beasts, let alone us pure humans—this condition is simply impossible to fulfill."

Seeing her dejected look, Qing Hua's usually stern face rare showed a faint smile: "Just find a spot to set up your grass hut peacefully."

This condition was proposed by the shaman; no one can be exempt, not even Aya.

Qingcao nodded: "Yes, Aya lives in a grass hut right in the middle; unless her future partner is a beastfolk or half-beast, she'll probably never get to live in a cave in her lifetime."

Wu Yue stared speechlessly at the sky; indeed, no matter the time, real estate is always an awesome business.

Suddenly, she seemed to think of something, her gaze burning as she looked at Qing Hua: "Why are the grass huts in the tribe always so low? Can't they be built higher?"

Qing Hua's expression suddenly turned serious: "Yue, you must remember, the tribe doesn't regulate the size of grass huts, but the height must never be exceeded; if they're too high, wild or fierce beasts could run into the tribe, putting us in danger."

Indeed, one should never underestimate people's wisdom at any time.

Wu Yue indicated she understood: "So the meaning is, as long as my grass hut's height is the same as yours, I can decide its size myself, right?"

Qing Hua nodded teasingly: "Yue, grass huts of this size have been passed down from our ancestors; some tribespeople want to build bigger ones, but increasing the area makes them prone to collapse."

Wu Yue chuckled: "A Mu once mentioned a remarkably miraculous grass hut; I intend to try building one."

Seeing her determined expression, Qing Hua stopped urging: "All right, whenever you build it, my partner and I will come help."

Wu Yue laughed: "Let's start tomorrow; can we freely choose where to set up the grass hut?"

Qing Hua rose and led her to an open space, pointing to a stone placed on the ground: "Places with a stone are already chosen by tribe members; where there's no stone, you may pick any spot, of any size."

Wu Yue crouched, picked up a branch, measured it by steps, and marked out an area of about thirty square meters beside Qing Hua's home: "Is this size okay?"

Qing Hua glanced at her, somewhat surprised, her eyes complex as she nodded: "Of course it's fine; even larger is okay. Though caves are few in the tribe, there are plenty of open spaces."

Wu Yue looked out and saw, sure enough, vast expanses of open land with no tribe members living there.

"Qing Hua, where will we live in winter?"

Qing Hua looked at her, puzzled: "Of course we'll live in the caves; in winter many starving fierce beasts and wild animals attack the tribe, so staying in grass huts would be too dangerous."

So, in this world, caves are still the best.
