Chapter 215: Brawling Between Monsters

~7 min read 1,252 words

Noticing that Regan and the golden-furred one had vanished from the rear of the formation, the armed man leading the group immediately changed expression.

"Something's wrong. Everyone, be on alert!"

Just as the leader issued the warning, Regan emerged from the alley again, tying his belt.

"Hm? What's the situation? Alert against whom?"

"Can't you give notice before leaving the formation?"

"I was just relieving myself. Don't be so tense, brother."

"Where's that dog?"

"Don't know. It probably got scared of being butchered by Solomon and ran off on its own."

Regan chuckled, offered a couple of explanations, then walked back into the formation.

On the other side of the Upper West District, beside a magnificent theater, there were likewise large patrol groups wearing hats; among them, gang members were few and far between, with almost everyone composed of ordinary civilians in home clothes.

"Everyone, pay attention." An armed man glanced at the streets in the night and warned several armed men playing cards nearby: "At least drink less. The Mad Hatter said just now that someone will attack tonight."

"What's there to fear?" An armed man with a cigarette in his mouth flicked out two cards and sneered: "You can see it yourself. There are at least several hundred people patrolling around here. Once these guys put on their hats, they're like robots. They won't feel hunger, won't feel cold, won't feel tired, and won't even spit out a single damn word. Except for patrolling, they won't do anything."

"Speaking of which, I feel that guy is truly sinister." Another armed man lifted a beer can and took a swig, complaining: "Damn it, all day long he's finding people to act out Alice in Wonderland for him in the theater, singing horror nursery rhymes from morning till night. The whole guy is just a damn lunatic, a madman like a clown."

"If it were just acting out fairy tales, that would be one thing." A third armed man shook his head: "That bastard hasn't had a single person he dragged in to act with him survive walking out of the theater alive. If it weren't for him constantly going out to do missions for the Clown, we'd have to go into the theater every day to clean up bloodstains."

"Jackson was shot dead on stage by him just yesterday. This guy even kills his own people. I really want to put a bullet straight into his head."

"Speak carefully. The Clown and the Mad Hatter are both madmen. If such words reach their ears, the brothers will have to be responsible for sinking your corpse into Gotham Harbor."

"F**k you. I'll at least live longer than you."

"Besides, who knows if anyone will really attack tonight? A madman like that, who knows where he got his intelligence? We don't need to be trembling. Do what we're supposed to do today, sleep when the time comes. These several hundred controlled things are far stronger in combat than us."

"According to the Mad Hatter, there's a mole planted among the Riddler's soldiers. That guy's hat is very sinister. The intelligence might be real."

"Alright, alright." An armed man put down the cards and beer can in his hands: "If a fight really breaks out later, at least we can't be too drunk. We need to find a safer place to hide so we don't get hit by stray bullets."

"That does make some sense."

Boom—

While the few were conversing, a huge rumbling suddenly came from a distant district. They turned their heads in shock and could only see flames shooting into the sky and a column of gray-black smoke.

"Holy crap, what's happening!"

"Looks like the Mad Hatter's intelligence isn't very accurate."

"Whose territory is that over there?"

"That big oaf's. Solomon Grundy."

"That's going to be a good show."

"Not going to help?"

"That monster fights like the Hulk. Do you dare go?"

"Forget it, forget it."

"Solomon Grundy! Born on Monday!"

A furious roar erupted from the factory. The pale-green giant, his clothes in tatters, was covered in blackened burn marks, with a few flames still burning on his body. He plunged both hands into a huge humanoid mud shadow, wanting to tear this enemy that had suddenly launched an attack in the factory into pieces, but was instead entangled by the viscous mud.

His arm muscles suddenly bulged, terrifying power exploding from his hands. The mud face's chest was torn open bit by bit. He struggled with all his might to maintain his restraint over Solomon, but it was clear he was about to give way.

"This zombie clearly took an explosion, yet why is its strength still so terrifying!"

Two huge mud legs extended from the mud mass. The mud face leaped with all its might, carrying Solomon directly into the air. Solomon instinctively tried to reach out and grab a steel beam in the factory, but his hands were still unable to break free from the restraint. He could only be forcibly dragged by the mud face to smash through the factory roof and plunge straight into the night sky.

Undoubtedly, the mud face's super strength might be inferior to Solomon's, but it had absolutely reached a non-human level. With a leap that relied on brute force, it carried both of them to high altitude, then sent them plummeting back toward the factory ground.

"Solomon Grundy! Born on Monday!"

The mud mass deformed in mid-air and wrapped around Solomon, adjusting his posture. The pale-green zombie's head faced downward, smashing hard against the hard concrete ground. Though he struggled desperately, the viscous mud mass almost turned him into an insect in amber, hindering every exertion of his body.

Crash!

Within seconds, the two had touched the ground. The mud mass scattered an instant before impact, shattering into scattered mud. Solomon's huge and heavy body smashed through the ground, the terrifying tremor and deafening roar making the entire factory district shake as if the earth and mountains were moving.

Even more deadly, on the factory's perimeter, numerous citizens controlled by the Mad Hatter were now approaching the factory with guns in hand, while the sane gang members all halted in their tracks. They knew very well that ordinary flesh and blood could not possibly participate in a battle between two such colossal giants.

Even being struck by a single flying stone fragment during the fight, or having one's internal organs ruptured by the shockwave generated by the battle, would be enough to kill a person on the spot. Let alone the possibility of being casually grabbed by one side and thrown out as a projectile.

And now, even if the Kite Man and Batman rushed here together, the two of them could not rely on their combined strength to block everyone outside the factory—the number of people controlled by the Mad Hatter was simply too great.

At this moment, Solomon in the factory was climbing out of the deep pit. The impact of their fall had smashed his head open on the ground, yet he seemed completely unaware of it. Bai Bai Sensen skull bones protruded from the gruesome wound, along with dark-red muscle and parts of brain tissue, but no blood flowed out—or perhaps, as a zombie, Solomon simply didn't have such a thing in his body?

Opposite Solomon, the scattered mud on the ground reformed into a mud giant. He marveled at Solomon's thick skin and tough flesh.

"This guy is truly a monster."
