Chapter 285: You Thought He Was Superman, Right?
The same technique, the same angle; the difference is that the Cloaked Man's strength far exceeds that of Wonder Girl.
Far more.
The girl, reacting with extreme speed, immediately raised both hands to brace against the steel plate; she wanted to grapple with the Cloaked Man—but in merely an instant, her legs were hammered into the ground by immense force.
She couldn't help but grit her teeth and groan, but a moment later, she saw the Cloaked Man holding the steel plate with one hand, looking at her with a mocking smile.
"How do you feel now, hmm?" His hand slowly descended, pressing Wonder Girl into the earth: "Has this taught a lesson to a low-life creature like you?"
Wonder Girl's willow brows immediately furrowed in anger; she exerted force with both hands, her five fingers digging deep into the plate, and roared at the opponent.
"How dare you insult an Amazon warrior!"
Creak-creak-creak—
A metal-deforming sound that made teeth ache rang out; the girl's arms parted, tearing that steel plate directly in half as if ripping open a piece of waste paper.
So the Cloaked Man advanced again and delivered an uppercut straight to her.
"Pfft—!"
Even an Amazon warrior's body could not withstand a punch from the God of Men; bright red blood sprayed from her mouth, she was struck until stars danced before her eyes, nearly fainting on the spot.
"Let her go!"
At this moment, the green youth on the side immediately rushed over; his body shifted into a four-legged stance while charging, and suddenly began to transform, swelling up like a balloon being inflated—his limbs thickened, his nose lengthened—by the time he reached the Cloaked Man, he had completely transformed into an elephant.
"I knew that green-skinned kid must have some special trick up his sleeve."
At this very moment, Drake's mindset had undergone a subtle shift; he gradually transformed from a purely panicked citizen into a gawking onlooker pointing fingers.
To be honest, a battle between superpowered beings is very dangerous, but when they fight, it is indeed far more spectacular than gang crossfire in Gotham City—at least for Drake, this was a completely new experience distinct from before.
Although it is very dangerous.
"What are you so excited about?" Camilla dared not breathe heavily, her voice extremely small: "Have you been in Gotham too long and caught the madness from those psychos?"
Drake shrugged and shrank back into the corner again.
Bang!
The green elephant charged with full force, slamming its massive body against the Cloaked Man; sure enough, it knocked him off balance. It raised its thick elephant leg high and stomped down on the opponent's body.
But the Cloaked Man was already prepared.
"Fool! No animal on Earth can deal with Superman!"
Once his attention focused, that heavy stomp appeared slow and sluggish from the Cloaked Man's perspective; he leaped aside to easily dodge the stomp, instantly appearing before the elephant and seizing its trunk.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The green elephant flew directly into the air; it was dragged by its trunk by a tiny human figure and smashed into the ground; gravel flew, a massive creature moaned in agony, and the entire street trembled three times. To the Metropolis citizens around them, the scene before their eyes seemed particularly fantastical and terrifying.
After the three impacts, three large craters appeared on the ground, along with the green-skinned boy, bones broken and tendons snapped, returned to his original form.
"No! Garfield!"
Wonder Girl screamed, but fortunately, the boy at that moment had distracted the Cloaked Man; so the girl immediately exerted force with both hands, prying open the five fingers clamping her neck. She jumped aside and unfastened a golden lasso from her waist—this was forged from the latest polymer material; perhaps it could bind the Cloaked Man for a short while. But Wonder Girl knew that relying solely on her strength, she alone could not defeat the opponent.
What to do?
At this moment, her eye suddenly caught sight of the street corner, where a blond boy rushed quickly into the battlefield. When he saw the Beast Boy on the ground and Wonder Girl with blood at the corner of her mouth, a trace of worry flashed in his eyes.
Perfect, Jericho has arrived, she thought; we are not entirely without a chance.
Their gazes met; in that instant, Wonder Girl and Jericho understood each other perfectly.
"You are stupid." The Cloaked Man looked at Wonder Girl, his face displaying a strange expression: "But you are beautiful; I will not kill you easily, at least not that quickly—I was mocked by beautiful women all over the world before; now, I will take my revenge starting with you."
Wonder Girl's beautiful face immediately showed anger and confusion; Superman is one of the people in the world least likely to be mocked by beauties; in fact, his female and male fans could form a line from Metropolis all the way to Gotham.
She said nothing; her figure stretched into a blurred shadow, circling around the Cloaked Man, and flung out the golden lasso—then the rope was grabbed by a hand.
The Cloaked Man's eyes completely locked onto the high-speed moving girl.
"Too slow, too slow; your speed is weak and powerless."
"Is that so?" Upon hearing this, the girl smoothly turned her body sideways, revealing the blond boy behind her: "Since you can see me clearly, you can surely see his eyes clearly as well, right?"
"Wha—"
In that instant, the Cloaked Man's line of sight met the green eyes of the blond boy.
The next second, that boy directly merged into the Cloaked Man's body, causing him to feel intense discomfort.
His body was like a game character whose keys had been remapped; no matter what, it would not obey his brain's commands. He wanted to blink, but his toes moved; he wanted to step, but his eyes blinked. This bizarre sensation nearly drove him mad; his godlike power that reached the heavens and earth could no longer be exerted, and he could barely move at all.
The girl's figure activated again; a few seconds later, the Cloaked Man, who trembled intermittently, was bound hand and foot, completely losing the ability to move.
"What did you do!? Get out of my body!"
"You are finished, Superman." Wonder Girl held the lasso, exhaling slightly with relief: "Jericho can control the motor reflexes of other living beings; you can think, you can speak, but you cannot control your own body anymore—or rather, if you try to use your freeze breath, we will make it so you cannot even speak."
Not just her; at this very moment, all the Metropolis citizens on the street breathed a sigh of relief; they finally no longer had to worry about being crushed into meat paste by falling rocks.
At the same time, Superman's hands began to gesture involuntarily.
Camilla, watching from a distance, asked: "What is he doing?"
"He is using sign language." Drake answered: "He says Superman is an alien, and his ability cannot trap him indefinitely—oh my god, we should hide first."
"As far as I know, there is no prison in the world that can hold Superman." Cyborg, limping, climbed up from the ground and added casually: "You should hurry home; leave the rest to the Titans."
But at this very moment, a frail disabled man leaning on a cane also arrived beside Cyborg; together with Cyborg, he walked toward the center of the battlefield at a turtle's pace.
"No need to worry, Titans," he said. "Detaining the chief culprit responsible for this is not difficult, because he is not Superman—"
"I am Superman!"
